222868 I loved the Bridgerton series when the actors deviate so far from my mental pictures and pretty much ignore history completely I just can't get past it, my problem obviously but after a couple of episodes I just gave it up.

222868 In case anyone might be interested I stumbled across these 5 books for a total of $20 and the reviews looked good so I grabbed the whole series and for $20 I figured I could not really go wrong.

222868 WOW, this Dark Protectors series is weird as to pricing. They run a low of several FREE with KU to several at the $3 mark, a few more at the $6 mark and a couple at the $8.50 mark. Don't know that I ever saw a series priced this way.

222868 I have been reading books that for the most part had normal men in it and I grabbed Fated and it had a great story and I loved the world but I had forgotten how most of these vampire type romance stories are full of really extreme alpha males. I found it hard to make the transition without a high dislike for the hero

I like Vicki but she is a frustrating character many times with her "weakness" :(

222868 Just finished A Bride for a Rogue: A Historical Regency Romance and it was a nice warm hearted story but the kind of pissed me off, not because of the story, it was probably barely 4 Stars and somewhat predictable in a good way but the book ended at the 87% mark and the rest was promos and crap which I hate. I was waiting for some big surprise at the 85% mark and a couple of pages later was THE END

Just for honesty sake that cover WAY overhypes book 1, more like what I expect in book 5 and I don't think she has fired a pistol in any of the books (she is a soldier, M16 and M240 Machine Gun are all I remember) and that thing behind her I assume is something that pops up in book 2 or 3 but make no mistake, I really am loving this series. The author feeds you just the right amount to keep your interest up or at least after book 1 it has been that way

222868 You ever get to reading a book/series that you feel is really not that good but you can't stop reading it? That is where this series has got me, Get Smoked Or Go Home is book 1, I am about to start book 5 and the thing is the story is slow moving but not too slow and is mostly just a girl who joined the Army due to some family problems but she has some sort of magical powers that play small parts mostly but they become more and more part of the story as it goes along. They are all on KU and if you try them I would suggest you read ALL of book 1 since it spends a LOT of time setting things up for the series. If you do not wish to continue at that point then probably it is not for you but I can tell you that by the start of book 5 I am totally addicted and can't really say why :) I need to write a 4-5 Star review if I can come up with words to describe why I am so addicted to this series.

UPDATE: Dammit, book 5 does not release for almost 3 weeks

I have to admit that this series has had more than a couple of TSTL heroines but I still go back a reread the opening chapters of book 2 where she is a coroner and he is brought in dead twice :)

An excerpt from my 4 Star review

"I enjoyed the book a lot more than the last 2 for sure so I think it managed to crawl across the 4 Star line for me. I am going to keep reading this series until it just bored me to tears but I really miss the humor that was in those first books and is pretty much missing from these later books"

222868 I loved this one:

Dev: She is ticked at me , what do I have to do to make her happy

Conall: You could try self-immolation

222868 re: Demon Hunting series - This is a series that needs to start from book 1 to get maximum enjoyment. At least books 1 & 2 will give you pretty much all the background you need plus they are "fall out of your chair" funny

I have that ARC but have not gotten to it yet but I had asked her about the long delay and she had a bad case of COVID which sidelined her for a very long time. Sounds like I need to finish the current book A Daring Pursuit and grab it out of the TBR

It was a great series, many people were not happy with the ending but I saw it as the only way to end a great series like that. I really hope to reread it one day but time to read the books I have NOT read will probably not allow me to ever do that sadly.

222868 I just stumbled back across this one I read some time ago and if anyone feels like a good historical romance this was a good one. Basic premise:

In order to keep from a forced marriage our heroine decides to marry a convicted criminal and become a widow. Problem solved ... well except the criminal she chooses is undercover in the prison and is not actually going to be executed.

I loved it maybe you might also :) I should mention this series is on KU surprisingly

222868 Well I finished Crowbones and as I expected I did not want it to end. It may be just me but Anne Bishop's tales of The Others just have an appeal for me like no other author. I will have to write a 5 Star review and figure out how to do it and not give anything away. It is very hard to write a review that is just a gushing load of superlatives and not say too much about the actual story.

222868 I made it to 80% of Crowbones and at its base it is a very complex "whodunnit" with a few monsters thrown in and as always in these books a few really stupid humans and I am pretty sure I still have no clue, she has sent the reader in so many directions my head hurts LOL.
