Wasn't "the ton" . the upper ten thousand of titled people in Regency England. So that's a lot of titled people, LOL. I wonder what the actual population was.. going to google..

PS - The population in the first census in 1801 was 10.5 million.

I've read it Doug. I loved the premise, a library holding the endless possibilities of one's life. To me it had quite a melancholy tone throughout because of the lead character but the end was quite uplifting. Lots to ponder whilst you're reading. I'd give it a 3.5 - 4 star rating.

222868 This is the best book I've read this year ..

The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue by V.E. Schwab

It's historical/fantasy.. A 17th century French girl makes a deal with the devil.. be careful what you wish for. Beautiful writing and well thought out plot. I didn't want it to end... gush over.

222868 Vanessa, I'm really looking forward to The Bridgertons!

I'm watching Virgin River as well. The Mel-Jack- Charmaine love triangle is a tad annoying but overall I'm really enjoying it. It's well cast especially Jack and Mel although the Preacher character is a lot more confident than the book. But the scenery is breathtaking, just how I imagined Virgin River to be.

Glad you're enjoying it Carol. There are four books in the series and a fifth coming next year.

Happy Thanksgiving all who celebrate.

222868 Vanessa, I've got Dark Tides (The Fairmile, #2) by Philippa Gregory in the trade size paperback. But it's a lovely red cover and I'm thinking I'm going to save it for a challenge next year (The UNO Challenge at the Perks group) where it would fit beautifully.

I'm so behind in my reading this year, too many challenges and buddy reads which I love but I think I'm going to cut back next year so I can read more of what I feel like and not what I feel like I have to read. I just realized I haven't even read The Jackal (Black Dagger Brotherhood Prison Camp, #1) by J.R. Ward yet but I'm going to save it for the quieter time after Christmas .

222868 Vanessa, yes I read Tidelands. A while ago and as I remember is a bit of a dark and melancholy read as the heroine goes through a lot and it ends when she is not in a good place. Well written in the usual Philippa Gregory way though, lots of interesting history woven with the drama. But it is a series and I have the next book on order so hopefully things improve for her.

Also have Archangel's Sun (Guild Hunter, #13) by Nalini Singh to read as well.

222868 I've really rediscovered the library this year. My local one has the most readers borrowing books in a local government area in the state. Love living in a suburb of readers. And they do interlibrary lends and will buy books that you request as well, though sometimes that takes a few months. And I'm saving money and space as well. Win, win all around.I'm getting Return to Virgin River (Virgin River, #19) by Robyn Carr today.

Tonight it's going to be all about The Crown on Netflix!

222868 It's Goodreads Awards time again.

Who reads these books in the first round? I think I've read about two. Didn't there used to be a Paranormal category? Shows how much this genre has declined which is a shame. I still love me some hot vampires, shifters, gargoyles etc.

222868 I'm also looking forward to the Bridgertons.

As so many of the series we love find their way to TVland, I try to separate them into different entitles. To avoid disappointment. It's very rare that an adaptation is as good as the book.

Vanessa, have you read The Harp of Kings (Warrior Bards, #1) by Juliet Marillier ? It's a nice surprise it's about the children of Blackthorn and Grimm. I loved that series. I'm half way through and this one seems a little slow.

Oh thanks so much for the heads up, Melindeeloo! Going to order this now!

I loved this series and didn't mind the TV adaption (although I always pictured Jack as Richard Dean Anderson more than Martin Henderson, LOL)

222868 Vanessa, Gentleman Jim by Mimi Matthews sounds really good and we usually like the same books, so I've pre-ordered that. Thank You.

Can you believe that I've had The Jackal (Black Dagger Brotherhood Prison Camp, #1; Black Dagger Legacy, #5) by J.R. Ward for about a month and haven't got to read it yet. As it's coming up to the end of the year I'm struggling to finish all my buddy reads and Challenges. But I know I'll love it so I'm savouring it for when I'm up to date. When will I ever learn... maybe that will be my New Year's Resolution for 2021. Control myself..

I've read the first two and they were pretty good. Although I liked the Nadia Stafford series a bit better.

222868 Oh that's no good LAB. All the best for the library job. We are so lucky here in NSW that covid has largely been kept under control. We've had no cases of community transmission for the last 4 days. But not taking anything for granted. Just one mistake and it takes off again.

I love this series as well. It's like being transported to Regency London and not only is it a great mystery series the build up in the relationships between the characters is so well done.

Another good one is the Wrexford and Sloane books by Andrea Penrose. Murder on Black Swan Lane (Wrexford & Sloane, #1) by Andrea Penrose
