Is it necessary to read the books leading up to The Kraken King? I read the first one and it was okay but I wasn't thrilled with..."I think you can read it without 2 and 3, but the leading lady in Kraken King is the sister of the leading man in book 2 - the sister is a writer whose stories are about the brother's adventures. KK is set in a different part of the world from the other books.

I case anyone is interested,
Iron Master is out now.
I am enjoying
A Heart of Blood and Ashes - it is hard to put down

I just finished
Cast in Wisdom in audio, I enjoyed it - this series does kind of meander a bit though, and not a lot sticks between books.
I read a cute contemporary romance that was fun
Frenemies - the leads have a past and in the present lots of snarking and pranks ensue - and then there's a grandma who stirs things up who was a hoot. Not KU but not too pricey.

Sending good thoughts to all of you going through challenging times and wishing you peace and health and more reading time:)
Douglas re: A Heart of Blood and Ashes
Milla Vane is MelJean Brook's new pen name.

I just finished a good one in audio,
Six of Crows. It's a heist story set in a fantasy world with the story told from six character's POVs and the audio is done with a reader for each character. So each voice their character in the dialog throughout the story and they act as narrator in their character's POV chapters. The characters are late teens but the story doesn't feel terribly YA since they all have situations/pasts which make them older than their years.

I know someone here got me hooked on the London Celebrities series and the new one,
Headliners came out last week. It was a good enemies to lovers story, with cameos of past pairs. I got an ARC and read it in one sitting. Hope there will be more, this one moved out of theatre and on to the TV set.

I just finished
Pack of Lies - i really liked it, I really like Hadley and Midas.

The new Hailey Edwards potentate of Atlanta book is out. Pack of Lies

I just did a fantasy story -
Caraval - I thought it was entertaining - the imagery was good, though it is probably more YA.
I am working on another fantasy -
Six of Crows in audio. It is good so far. It has multiple POVs (6 maybe) and is secret plots to do a heist ( of a prisoner, but 'rescue' or 'kidnapping arent quite the right terms either) This is interesting so far.
I just finjshed
Druid Vices and a Vodka - it was good, and it sort of shook things up for Tori - it will be interesting to get more of Robin's pieces of the puzzle - her book comes out before the next Tori one

Sweep with Me is complete with the last installments up on Ilona Andrews blog - it will be there til the 13th, then published and available the next day.

Happy New Year too all, hope everyone has a better 2020!
I am still working on the Nate Temple series in KU
Silver Tongue - the author really puts the character through the wringer, but they move along well.

Ok, i am really going senile. I did manage to slog my way through
Born in Fire, only to discover after the fact that I'd read it before. Looking at my previous review, my reaction the second time was the same as the first: elements and a lead that should have worked but overall a big "meh".

Thanks for the heads up on the new Rosie O'Grady book out, I was stalled out on my current KU
Born in Fire (which is ok but hasn't really caught me yet) but then again it might be that I have a bit of a book hangover from finishing
Last Dragon Standing - I really enjoyed that series

I just finished the first two Heartstriker books (
Nice Dragons Finish Last is book one) I thought they were quite entertaining - magic, dragons and seer plots. I think most if not all of the series is KU and the few few at least have audible for 1.99 when you have the book checked out in KU.

I read
Dying for a Living, it was on the plus side of ok, the premise of dying for people so they get to keep living and then resurrecting was interesting. The heroine is a pretty typical uf lead with an attitude which is what kept it more ok - since she didn't really click for me and there's a dreaded love triangle (a bisexual one but it's background noise for the most part).
Much better was
Obsidian Son a wizard with a bookshop with a best friend who is a wolfshifter and an FBI agent, and a minotaur and dragons - I 'll read more of this series and keep my fingers crossed because there two other connecting series and around 12 books. So far the first few have been KU

I have also been working my way through the the Smart..."The library parts were the best parts about the story :)
