The blurb for Forbidden Forest sounds similar to your description..."It was, what amazing sleuthing abilities you have:). I am not very far into the second book and am keeping my fingers crossed that it is good - the leading lady in having a meltdown now, so we'll see.

I am listening to a series that is on audible escape, the first book was decent small cross over on Earth and then the rest in a land with elves vampires and shifters which is on the brink of war. The leading lady is a halfing tasked with bringing a blind vamp prince on a quest to regain his sight. She's got issues, he's a delight - so happy to be out in the world. The romance is a strong thread. It does end in a cliffie but the series is complete. A strong draw for me is the reader is Khristine Hvam who does Jane Yellowrock and Elantra.

The Vine Witch is the audible daily deal for 2.95. I thought it was good - so if you don't have KU (it's a free read and listen) and are looking for cheap entertainment...:)

I just started reading a really different but fun story by Lindsay Buroker and it is on KU...
[book:S..."I just finished Sinister Magic which is also 99¢ for those who don't have KU. It was a promising start to the series, though I don't have a sense of where this is going to go serieswise yet. Some magic, tiger "service friends", and arrogant dragons. The next book is out soon - maybe next week.

Well I thought I found a new series - it's KU and there are 15 books , the first book
Bless Your Heart with an exiled fairy living in a trailer park, was promising if not great, the second
Tinsel in a Tangle was silly at best and lost my attention mid way and I ended up skimming.
I audio though I am listening to
The Vine Witch and really enjoying it - it's KU with the companion audio free read and listen.

I just finished the Doing Time in audio. I wasn't too sure going in - most of the Time Police have been thugish in the St Mary's books- but I really enjoyed it and look forward to more. There were cameos of Max and friends, along with one 'visit' to a historical event.

For St Mary's fans the spin off Time Police 'Doing Time' kindle version is .99 - don't know for how long

I finally finished all of the #PWF books.
I thought these were the best of the bunch (but there were only a couple that didn't hook me into the next book)
Magical Midlife Madness (Leveling Up #1)
Breene, K.F. *
Let it All Burn: A Paranormal Women's Fiction Novel (From the Ashes Book 1)
Swank, Denise
It's A Wonderful Midlife Crisis (Good To The Last Death, #1)
Peterman, Robyn

Imaginary Numbers too - even with the 'to be continued' ending. I didn't know how Sarah was going to carry a whole book by herself, so having some help from Artie was what made things work. I was also excited by the Antimony short at the end, since it looks like Alice will get a book at some point too.

I really liked
It's A Wonderful Midlife Crisis and added the next book in the series to my wishlist.
Melindeeloo wrote: "This was another good one Let it All Burn - with a unique spin on hot flashes ;)"I've done 9 of the 13 so far. I probably should have spaced these out more - there's a lot of women divorced from cheating husbands in these.

This was another good one
Let it All Burn - with a unique spin on hot flashes ;)

The new Jodi Taylor
Doing Time is out now too.
I finished
Cloudy with a Chance of Witchcraft - it was ok but really thin storywise - PNR instead of PNF and the romance was instantaneous - second chance, but way too fast. Another 100 pages and it would have been decent. The elements were all there: witches, shifters, paranormal hunters, evil bitches and BFFs

I enjoyed s..."I've been wanting to pick this series back up but don't really remember where I fell behind. I have them marked on my shelf but if I read the description for the last one I supposedly read it doesn't sound familiar....

I read
Magical Midlife Madness and it is my favorite of the PWF books so far. I just really liked the leading lady and her new attitude - she also says some really insightful things. I also really liked the oddball characters who are her support. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for the next one.
I didn't feel that way about
Sucks To Be Me - mafia and vampires - like others have said it wasn't funny like Painter's other light paranormals and the leading lady was just okay too.

I've been reading a few of the women's paranormal fiction that a few of you have mentioned the ones by Darynda Jones, Elizabeth Hunter and Michelle Pillow. So far I've enjoyed them all, they are short but they are KU. Here's a link that has the all them amazon links in it.

Betwixt

https://www.amazon.com/Betwixt-Paranorm..."Thanks for mentioning this, I though it was pretty good - the lead isn't as kooky as Charlie(I do not miss her habit of naming inanimate objects and body parts), but still a bit quirky. There were several unique things about the rest of the cast that I really liked too. I'd read more even if they don't end up being KU.

I just saw that Keri Arthur started a new series with bits of Arthurian legend as a basis, but set current day with magic, shapeshifting, and dark elves, so I clicked and thought it was good. I will definitely read the next one.

I read
Iron Master - it was a little different in that the pairing was Fae/Bear shifter this time. A little piece was added to the fae background ARC. It still was fairly standard fare romancewise for the series, with tons of micro cameos and name drops from the past books.
