22225 I don't, but that's because I prefer to have my books marked up as little as possible. I've considered from time to time making use of those return address labels that charities keep sending, but I'm not sure if I really want all that info in my books because of those rare times I actually sell one or two. On the other hand, when I buy used books and find that sort of info in them, it is kind of neat to see where a book has been.

Wow! That's determination."

It's pretty easy for me. Being a bachelor I have no one to interrupt me and in the evening there's really nothing on TV anyway, so I pretty much read during the three hours of primetime after dinner and before bed. And not to brag (much) I often go through a book a day since I pretty much read 100 pages and hour and most books I read average around 300 pages long. I'm up to 355 books so far this year. At my rate, I'm probably going to end up with an average of reading a book and a half a day.

22225 I find I average about three hours a day.

22225 Last month of the year, so how will you end things? Share your book buys here.

22225 Good to know I'm not the only one. I succumbed to the temptation and ordered from www.hpbmarketplace.com:
Putting Makeup on Dead People by Jen Violi (autographed by Jen Violi)
I Shall Not Want (The Psalm 23 Mysteries, #2) by Debbie Viguié
Waiting for the Magic by Patricia MacLachlan

22225 I'm very tempted to, but I probably wouldn't even be spending money on books online today if today weren't supposedly the best day of the year to do it, so I am not sure if I will or not. How about you?

Is that like fasting?"

For me, that'd be like starving! ;-)
22225 Rita, the way I'm able to read so much is for one, I'm a bachelor so I have no one at home to interrupt me and two, I'm a very fast reader, I can go through about 100 pages an hour so in the evening when there is nothing on tv to watch after dinner I really have no trouble finishing off a 300 page novel before bedtime which makes it pretty easy to go through a book a day.

And like you suggested with the shelves, I do have shelves for what I read each year, but I go so far as to divide it by month. For example: read-in-2009-04-april.

22225 Shannon, if you must browse but not buy (tough, I know) I'd suggest maybe visiting your local library. Good luck, I know you'll need it. :-)
22225 I think the way to go about the challenge so that you have fun is to think realistically. Consider what your usually reading pace is, say you find you read a book a week, and set the challenge at that, so then it would be 52 books for the year. Then if you make, great, and if you find you can beat it, even better! :-)

22225 Johnny, just remembered, www.thriftbooks.com and www.hpbmarketplace.com are two really good resources for finding used books, as well as Amazon, of course. Have fun collecting.

22225 Cool find. Just in case you don't already have it, thought you might like the list of all of them so you can check them off as you get them. Like you said, it's gonna take awhile. Happy hunting!

22225 1. Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Yes, I do like to nibble often while reading, nothing special.

2. What is your favorite drink while reading?
Don't really have a favorite, often it's lemonade or soda pop.

3. Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
I detest writing in a book, but I have made special exceptions for specific nonfiction resources I have.

4. How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ear? Laying the book flat open?
Bookmarks is my prefered method, but if I am going to be right back I might lay a book flat open if I don't have a bookmark close at hand.

5. Fiction, Non-Fiction, or Both?
Fiction a bit more than non-fiction

6. Are you a person who tends to read to the end of a chapter, or can you stop anywhere?
I can stop anywhere but I prefer to read to the end of a chapter.

7. Are you a person to throw a book across the room or on the floor if the author irritates you?
Nah.

8. If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop and look it up right away?
I stop and look it up right away. I like to keep a dictionary near by just in case.

9. What are you currently reading?
Just finished First Drop of Crimson by Jeaniene Frost

10. What is the last book you bought?
Disappearing Nightly by Laura Resnick

11. Are you a person that reads one book at a time, or can you read more than one?
I can read more than one but I prefer not to.

12. Do you have a favorite time/place to read?
Not really.
13. Do you prefer series books or stand-alones?
I like both.

14. Is there a specific book or author you find yourself recommending over and over?
No, I recommend SO many different ones.

15. How do you organize your books? By genre, title, author's last name, etc?
By genre, then author, then series order, then single titles.
