What a great quote.
A favorite quote of mine that I always share with anyone who says I buy too many books is from the wise scholar Desiderus Erasmus: "When I get a little money, I buy books. And if I have any left, I buy food and clothes." :-)

I think I have 137ish. They have their own bookcase. They sit there and taunt me.

I convinced my sister to go back with me to Borders today so I could use two more 40% off coupons to get the two other books I wanted:
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane and
The Jewel of Medina. That makes seven for me now. We don't need 12 steps away, we need 120! lol

Okay, I finally succumbed to the pressure, at least partially. I did go to Borders to use my 40% off coupon to buy
Wicked Plants The Weed That Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities, but that is all I walked out with, even after looking at all the specials tables and the other shelves. I swore I would not buy anything at Borders without a coupon, no matter how much I wanted to.
On the other hand, I also walked out of the library today with four used books. That makes five books my total purchase quota for this month. So far.

Thanks everyone for your advice. I did decide to go with the plant book, especially after learning that the author will be visiting a bookstore near me next week. Had to get it so I could get it autographed, of course.
P.S. I succumbed to temptation. I went back with my sister and bought the other two with two more 40% off coupons. lol

Ok, here's the situation my friends. I have a 40% off coupon for Borders burning a hole in my pocket. Should I use it and if so, which of the following books do you think I should buy? I've read them all and would like to have them in my own library because I really like to reread.
Wicked Plants The Weed That Killed Lincoln's Mother and Other Botanical Atrocities: cover price $18.96. It's a neat referance book on poisonous plants, probably won't come out in paperback.
The Jewel of Medina: cover price $24.95. A good book that I might be able to get cheaper if I could be patient enough to wait for it come out in paperback or maybe get lucky and find the hardcover used.
The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane: cover price $25.99. Another good book that I might be able to get cheaper if I could be patient enough to wait for it come out in paperback or maybe get lucky and find the hardcover used.
If I do use it, it will probably be after work tomorrow, so quick replies would be appreciated. Thanks.

How about this, I'll ..."Lauren, that's my plan. I never buy from Borders unless I have a coupon, but this one is really burning a hole in my pocket. You see %25 or %30 off every so often, but %40? I talked myself out of stopping there after work today, but I don't know if I'll be able to convince myself to do that again tomorrow. Wish me luck, towards achieving or not achieving going, I'm not sure. lol

Usually I can hold off filling in holes in my series collections until I can find them for sale used, but there was one time where I just couldn't wait. Back in high school I went to my local Borders and bought all in one go the 18 books out of the 22 I needed to complete my Encyclopedia Brown collection. When I walked up to the counter with the pile in my hands, the cashier's jaw literally dropped. I remember wondering what the big deal was. lol

Kyle, you practically make me feel like I'm not doing my duty as a member of B.B.A.A.! lol. I've only got one new book planned to buy this month, but then again, who knows what I might find being withdrawn and turned into used books for sale at my library? The month did just start after all.

Lauren, I know what you mean. When I saw that in my email I started to panic. I try to keep to my shopping list, but a 40% off coupon is SO hard to pass up. How about this, I'll help you not to feel bad about using it if you help me not to feel bad. :-)
P.S. At my local Borders, they do know my name. I get greeted by the cashiers as I walk in. lol

Nice buys you guys. Feel free to add them to the group's August bookshelf:
http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

Thanks to a suggestion from Kenjii, I have created a new bookshelf title "bought-in-8-09" for everyone to add all of their purchases made this month, August of 2009.
http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh... I'll make a new shelf when we hit September and so on.
Kenjii wrote: "It will be good to start a bought 8/2009 shelf for this group. It's great the shelves you come up with when browsing through different threads.
I just joined August, so no books yet!"Not a bad idea, Kenjii. I've now done just that.
Lauren wrote: "I am with you too. I have to have a complete series! I want books like the sherlock homes and grims fairy tales and the Illad but i want to try and read them too. how ever its almost like i need to..."Lauren, it makes perfect sense. Even if I may only read or make use of a couple books from a nonfiction set, I'll keep my eyes open for the rest of them. I hate having incomplete series, be it fiction or nonfiction.

Karen, oh, I don't know, some of us book buying addicts will go long distances for a good book buying deal. lol.

Anybody else like to purchase books to collect rather than read? For example, I like to pick up books from Time-Life series like
Dragons The Enchanted World and
Great Ages of Man Historic India A History of the World's Cultures, Time Life Books. I like to shop at used book sales to collect to have complete sets and series. Anybody else like to collect books like some people collect stamps? Or am I unique nut? ;-)

I'm a sucker for a used book sale. I just picked up two cook books from the library for $2.

Karen, where'd you get that great deal? I've read the first three in the Sign of the Zodiac series so far series and was able to get #1 used, but I'd like to get the others as well.
