I am in section 2 now!
I noticed in my copy, the intro page to this section says "On the Boarder". I am wondering if this is a typo or if that is how it is supposed to be.
Below is the official definition of "Boarder" and it doesn't seem to fit.
Boarder:
1. a person who receives regular meals when staying somewhere, in return for payment or services.
2. a person who boards a ship during or after an attack.
I will say, I have a first edition Paperback copy of the extended edition and it has TONS of typos. Made me wonder if the editor was out to lunch!

I do think you would have enjoyed the abridged more. I am noticing tons of extra stuff that is cool, but not necessary.

Not sure if the subject matter in this one will interest me, but it is a classic and I found the audio on Hoopla, so I feel like I should give it a go!

Beth - for this group, The Stand is going through October 1st (hopefully I have it marked that way!).
I understand being nervous about trying another book by an other if you have already tried another and not enjoyed it. This one I am not trying because I trust my wife's opinion!

I have heard this several times before. It makes me wonder when the "Must read" comes in? I am too scared to give it a try! ;)

Just read the section about people dying not of Captain Trips, but who were immune and died shortly after of other random things. Kind of an interesting view - a part of the story that doesn't need to be told, but adds a lot to making the overall situation come to life.

HOLY COW! I forgot how intense the Lincoln Tunnel scene was. I did remember it, though, from reading the abridged 20 years ago. Also, I have driven through the Lincoln Tunnel before and I think this is a case of having been there it certainly heightens the experience!

After a compilation chapter of all the government cover-up tactics (a nice little transition from the common cold to devastating epidemic), there are some very interesting chapters with our main characters starting to cope with living in a world where they now know they are one on the last few people alive.

Discuss the winner of the August 2016 - One From Each List Poll

Poll ends today! Be sure to vote if you haven't yet!

Looks like The Unbearable Lightness of Being is coming after Little Women!

Captain Trips
(view spoiler)[It's looking more and more like the government is giving up not only covering up the problem, but giving up because they know they can't do anything about it. I like the scene where the guy staring at the monitors gives up and goes down into the compound and sits with the victims and kills himself. very powerful hopelessness (hide spoiler)]Really getting into the meat of things now!
Carol wrote: "I haven't read most of these books, so I won't vote, but I have to say I really HATED Little Women, especially the character Beth.
Or is this poll to determine a new book to be group read and disc..."This poll is for our August book to read - so vote away! :)

Looks like Little Women is pulling away! Come and vote if you haven't yet.
Also, as per the normal procedure, if any books have no votes after the poll has been up for 24 hours, I will remove them so further votes will be focused on the titles that have garnered immediate interest.

For August I created the One Book From Each Poll. This poll features one book from each of the lists in our discussion threads. Some books are on more than one list, but its hard to avoid that! You will see the list it is on next to the book.
There is one link in the lists discussion thread that I still cannot get to open and I am not sure why. :(
We will be voting through July 20th.
Everyone come out and vote!

Looks like we have a few members currently reading this - great!
I am thinking of passing. My wife said she didn't care for it and in general I can trust her to know what I like. I know, I know . . . maybe I am missing something and I should give it a go . . .

I missed my Stand reading yesterday - sat down with the book around 11pm and woke up at 5am in my recliner with a blanket on my head - only a couple of lines had been read. True story!

The blurb in the front of the abridged version I have makes Lloyd sound like one of the good guys. Makes me wonder if the people who write the summaries actually read the books.

So, you haven't got to Frannie's mom yet? She's a real piece of work!
