This was okay, but I think his concept was a bunch of serial novellas that came together as part of a larger work. Because of this, I felt like the best part was the cliffhanger ending; just like on an episode of a sci fi show so you can't wait for the next one!

I have seen some people called names on other book groups because they didn't like a book. One time I saw someone told that they would not be able to provide decent commentary on Stephen King books because their "Read" list was full of YA vampire romance! That was going a bit far!

Sometimes we can joke with each other about not liking a book because we all know we are kidding each other (except Justin really is stoopid for not liking The Martian ;))

To each his own, I say!

I loved Of Mice and Men and Grapes of Wrath - always planned to do some more Steinbeck but never have. I think that this may motivate me!

I have been thinking that I should probably read Pride and Prejudice since it is on so many must read lists and lots of my Goodreads friends give it 5 Stars. But, now I don't know . . .

Ha! Moby Dick - I now know way too much about whales because I read that. The book is about 600 pages long and if you cut out all the parts that are an education on whaling and whale anatomy, it would be 65 pages long.

So, I got to thinking about this when I was looking through all these must read lists - there are a few books I have seen on these that I thought were terrible. Of course, that is just my opinion, for others I am sure they are favorites/classics.

What books have have you seen on must read lists that you are not happy you read?

For me it was The Name of the Rose and Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close. Both of these were highly recommended, highly spoken of, and were on many must read lists, and both were extremely painful for me to read!

Thanks for including me. Completists, huh? Well I am sure I can completely not finish these lists - but I can try!

This is a big book I have been wanting to read. Probably too big for me to finish in March!

Abbie - I agree about The Martian, but I know our group moderator doesn't, so I question his judgement! ;)

Read 15 - I have not heard of a lot of these.

1. Matthew (not Matt - I don't get mad if people call me Matt, it just isn't what I go by)
2. Greenwood, IN (also Northern Kentucky, Cincinnati, Laramie (WY), Yellowstone National Park (WY), and Gardiner (MT))
3. Favorite books are The Stand (King) and Brave New World (Huxley). I like horror, YA stuff, legal dramas, and political thrillers. Friend me on Goodreads and check out my favorites list. I love adding friends on Goodreads because I love discussing books - better than any other social media!
4. I don't like artsy books that try too hard. I have read a few that are supposed to be classics and been very disappointed.
5. Most recently completed book was Gods of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Just okay - not as good as the first in the series, The Princess of Mars.
