Poll ends in a couple of days and it is a tight one!!! Ender's Game and I, Robot are duking it out. If you haven't voted yet, please do and help make sure we don't end in a stalemate!

I am enjoying the back and forth of this one. It is interesting how each chapter goes back a little in time to what was going on during the last chapter but at a different location.

So far, not too bad - to me, Briony is pretty intense for a 13 year old!

Finally starting this! A little nervous because of the mixed reviews . . .
TheLongWait wrote: "Sorry...but I'm here :-)"Nope - no worries - whether you are quiet or chatty is up to you. I just enjoy our conversations when we have them. You definitely helped me appreciate Infinite Jest and The Crying of Lot 49 more than I would have on my own.
TheLongWait wrote: "I have been around, just not commenting."Ah, being super sneaky! :)

Ender's Game is in the lead, but I, Robot and Mists of Avalon are hot on its trail . . . looks like it could still be any of these three . . . vote, vote, vote!

Might I ask what you did like about the book and what you took away from it? My experience was like..."I will have to defer to TheLongWait, but I don't think I have seen him on in a while.

Ender's Game starting off with a decent lead. Removing Hyperion as it has no votes after the first 24 hours.

Greetings!
It has been awhile since a poll because of ties in our past two BIG and short read polls.
I noticed we have not had a Poll specifically from the NPR Sci-Fi/Fantasy list in about a year so I figured it was a good time for another one.
Voting is through May 25th and we will start reading June 1st.

It was interesting, because at first I thought Piggy was pathetic, but then he grew on me and I started to wonder why they were not listening to him when what he said made so much sense!

Whew - I was on vacation and it was much harder to keep up with Goodreads while I was lying on the beach! :)
Back to the Goodreads grind!

Daniel - good observations. Piggy is really also the only one to try and push the order of discussion using the conch - even though Ralph also supports it - Piggy keeps bringing it up and everyone keeps making fun of him/ignoring him.
I was just reading up interpretations of the book, and not only do people look at Piggy as a representation of order in society, almost every single character and element has been pegged as a representation of something in daily life.
However, in the authors afterward, he says to forget everyone else's interpretation, the only one that matters is your own.

With the road trip on my vacation, I was able to finish the audio in a day. While not my favorite book, it is still very good and does warrant the classic tag.
Also, if you get a chance, listen to the audio version read by the author.

Just started the audio today. Kind of amazed at how quickly the boys establish order right off the bat. It seems like it would take a very special group for something like that to happen.

Valerie - yes, considering the whole first section is named after her!

I will be reading this one for the second time. The last time was back in school so it has been awhile. The plan is to listen to it on the road while I am headed out on vacation.

YAY! I made it to the Epilogue!!!!!!!!!

I may have just read one on my favorite quotes ever:
"But despite the fact that the doctors treated him, bled him, and gave him medicines to drink, he recovered."
Good one, Tolstoy!
