This discussion thread is solely for your progress (book discussions go in individual threads).
What did you read this week?
Did you enjoy the book?
When was your book published?
While reading, did you feel it was an old book or not?

There are several I really like in this 1st batch, I'm happy we can choose four ideas!
If everybody is ok with this, I would like two things:
- to do 3 batchs with "short reads" suggestions only.
- to add a rule "don't submit an idea in the first 2days, if your submitted one (in the 20) the previous time".

Submissions are closed, there will be a new topic for the next suggestions later this month :)

I never tried a book which won a Nebula (maybe I read one?), so I don't know if the choices are good or not. We'll see!

2. A book you want to read (aka the Reader’s Choice)
3. A book about sports
4. Two books with the same title
5. One of you favorite books from your childhood
6. A book written the same year and month of your birth
7. A book with a "great opening line"
8. A book in which the title begins with the first letter of your name
9. A book sets on another planet
10. A retelling
11. A book that you've seen the movie of but haven't read
12. A book that has more than one author (2 or more)
13. A book about mental illness (substance abuse, alzheimer's, autism, bipolar, etc.)
14. A book picked for you by someone else (You could ask this person to choose from your TBR)
15. A book that requires you to complete activities or experiments (Journal assignments, running challenge, spiritual practice...)
16. A book based on an ancient epic
17. A play
18. A book sets in a specific continent (possibility: read one book per continent, so 6 weeks)
19. A historical biography
20. An existentialist themed book

As it went really fast, I think for the next we'll add a rule like "don't submit a week in the first 2 days, if you submitted the last time".
Narma: one suggestion only please, edit your post ;)

I just sent a message to all the members and added a "feed" topic, so it will be easier to follow the progress.

Hi there :)
As we're enjoying the challenge, we'll do our own in 2016. We have to decide the weeks, so we'll use suggestions and polls.
I don't want to spam all the members for each step, so if you're interested in doing suggestions, voting or following what's happening, you just have to subscribe to this topic (check "email me" at the bottom).
We'll update when:
- a new week is opened for suggestions
- a new poll is online
At the end of each poll, I'll add the winner weeks in this first post.

Warning: don't post in this topic.

I'll read The Magicians for my book with bad reviews, so you'll know before the magic week if you need to change your plan :D

July 30 - August 5, 2015
This week challenge is a little difficult, as we usually dislike reading bad books. You can decide to go with:
- a book with mostly bad ratings/reviews
- a book which had bad reviews on its release
- a book not liked or never finished by people around you
- a book with some pretty bad reviews on Goodreads or elsewhere, but with an average ok rating
- a very bad book
- etc
Try to not choose a huge book, so if it's really that bad, you'll have a chance to finish it!
How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.
2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?
3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.
4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!
**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**

Did you choose an horror book or a book you were scared to read?
It's an horror book, on the post-apocalyptic side.
Did you enjoy the book?
Yes, very much. It had a good atmosphere and interesting ideas, so it was compelling.
Did you find it scary?
Not at all, but it was creepy enough. I didn't want something really scary ;)

Don't forget to read Unlocked: An Oral History of Haden's Syndrome (it's free and the link is on the page) before Lock In, it will help you a lot to understand how the society came to this point.

While you just started discovering the world, authors were releasing books. This week, you'll read a story as old as you. It's a bit like travelling in time, but with covers and paper.
How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.
2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?

Some books released the year you were born: http://www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/mos...

Bird Box (for the scary week) was creepy, I liked the atmosphere and the idea behind the "apocalyptic event". It was compelling, so finished very quickly.
Out of order, I finally decided to read Stargirl for the "read in a day" week. It was really nice and human, moving and challenging. The girl is a weird creature, I think I would like seeing more people like this, even if I probably would be uncomfortable around them. Too shiny for me, but interesting in an awesome way. It's a short book, compelling and set in highschool.
I decided to re-read Niourk for my children book, lets see how I'll like it now. It was my first dystopian/post-apocalyptic book and I read it with my mom when I was in elementary school. I re-read it several times since, but not since I'm adult.
Side-reads: finished Four: A Divergent Story Collection and Allegiant, which I found not as good as the other first books.
