152301 May 2: The folder for week 26 is available (a memoir).

New poll: What is your reading speed?
We don't read all at the same speed so, of course, 52 books can be more or less challenging.

152301 Week 26: a memoir.
June 25 - July 1, 2015

This week is a good time to learn something about someone you're interested in.
The book can be listed as "memoir", "autobiography" or "biography".

How to Create a Topic:
1. Create a topic in the appropriate folder using your book's author and title (Title by Author, please). Link your book with the "This topic is about" feature.

2. In the body of your post, comment about why you chose this book. Have you read it before? What are your expectations?

3. Feel free to use the thread as a way to update the group on your progress. Also, when you are finished reading, add a small review and your thoughts about the week's challenge.

4. Comment on everyone else's posts as well! Participation and group involvement will make this challenge so much fun!

**If you chose the same book as another group member for the same week, do not create a duplicate thread.**

152301 P&P was not too bad but I preferred the zombie version, a nice way to add some action to the boring romantic scenes :D

I think it's a good thing to read some classics and Austen is a well known author, but when you're not in stories driven by romance, it's not a compelling read. Good luck!

152301 Yey, read Hollow World :D It's spreading in my friends' circles and, for the moment, it's a 4-5 stars for everybody :)
A french translation is on the way but no idea when they'll release it, however it's better to read it in english because there's some non-gender settings (which is impossible with french language).

The Invisible Library was a pretty nice book, I liked the pace, the characters and the story. It has bits of magic, steampunk, paranormal (without heavy romance), action and mystery, so if you like non medieval fantasy, you'll enjoy the reading (I think it's a nice way to discover it too). The main character is a funny woman and the supportive characters are interesting too.
The 2nd book is currently edited and she's writing the 3rd so we won't have to wait forever to have some answers to the mysteries :)

152301 Don't be shy :)
I've to try other books from Louisa May Alcott, I only read Little Women (I appreciated it at the time, I'll try to re-read it this year to see how it goes now).
I'll read Ruby Red for "written in another language". The ebook sample was interesting so I hope I'll enjoy the full book. I'm looking forward to your opinion on it!

152301 I don't know how the sentences are for someone who usually speaks in english, but as a foreigner, they are awkward! I didn't feel this the 1st time I read the book because my english reading level was lower and I was used to not understand all I read.

152301 Welcome Cecy and Bec :)

152301 Haha Silvia, you're lucky, my TBR is big and for each read books I add 10 new. It's the never ending reading list.
Have fun with your book :)

152301 Joann, I think it's the A-Z from this group: https://www.goodreads.com/topic/group...
I check some of their challenges, there are interesting ideas :)

152301 And we have a title for the 2nd book: "The Masked City". It's in editing and she started writing the 3rd one :)

152301 Michael > Before reading The Jester, I wasn't aware that I liked short stories, so it's very nice to have new short things to read once in a while :)

Stephanie > Page turner english books are so cool, I read them at the same pace as french ones :D
I'm very bad at recommending books, but if you're not in stories full of action and enjoy books with atmosphere and simple people, I think it's difficult to not enjoy this one.

152301 I read all The Giver books and really enjoyed them. Number the Stars seems more serious, but I hope it's good too :)

152301 Usually, I prefer reading without music. However, for some books, I need a musical background, so I listen movie soundtracks I like.

152301 Christine > Only the books for this reading challenge (if you read more than 1 book for each week, you can add the others too).
For the totality of your books, the "Goodreads reading challenge" is the way to keep track of them :)

152301 What did you read this week? Toby Alone, a french "children" book about tiny people.

Did you enjoy the book? Yes, I didn't expect to really enjoy it as my last tries with french authors were really disappointing. So, it was a good surprise and I'm looking forward to borrow the sequel.

Does your friend usually have the same reading tastes than you?
Yes, we enjoy reading children books and fantasy/dystopia and we tend to dislike the same hyped books. I knew I choose a safe path when I asked her a book :D

Interested in recommending a book to all our members? We're listening :)
My favorite this year (and since many years) is definitively Hollow World, a bit of time travel, a bit of utopia and beautiful characters. I already recommended it several times and, so far, everybody gave it 4-5 stars, but we have the same view of life and society, so I suppose it helps to enjoy this story.

152301 Love triangles are not my thing, so I can't recommend a book, but maybe you can check at the listopias for some ideas:
The Best Love Triangles
Popular Love Triangle Books
Hunger Games (read), Vampire Academy (to-read) and The Selection are popular, so maybe have a look at them, if you're ok with dystopias or paranormal!

152301 Haha, I suppose The Road have lots of haters, just because of the writing style (no dialogue ponctuation). It's really threatening for mankind and the future of the whole literature :p
I think many books win awards because they have something different, but this something is not obvious for everybody as we are not all the same readers. Goon Squad seems totally in this category, with hate/love reviews :)

152301 We are halfway done with Week 17 and you read a book recommended by a friend (I hope he/she chose something nice!).

This discussion thread is solely for your progress (book discussions go in individual threads).

152301 Ed > yes we report individually as not everybody is "on tracks".
However:
- you can check the april poll here to see the voters' progress (the vote ends April 29th)
- it will be possible to see how everybody is doing with the new Group Challenge feature (front page, on computer)

152301 April 27: I just figured how to add a group challenge, normally you can see it in the front page (computer only), just under the header :D
How to:
- create a challenge shelf in your profile (or use an old shelf if you have one)
- copy-paste the name of the shelf in the group challenge
- select the shelf for each challenge book
The books will appear in your own group challenge and you can have a look at your progress and the members' progress :)
