152301 Finished! It was really nice with a creepy atmosphere. I'm glad too I chose this one and I really don't want to live in their 'post-apocalyptic' world, curiosity would have driven me mad.

152301 You're doing great :)
I think I need to try the Autre Monde series, just because of the titles of books 5 and 6 (I'm a fan of Peter Pan and Oz) and it's a dystopia! I'm downloading the sample for the 1st book, so I'll see if I like the writing or not. I never heard about them, I'm pretty happy when I see new ideas about french authors, even if I won't like all of them :)

152301 At 58%. It's really oppressing, so it's a success for this week. I like the atmosphere and, as said by Manda, there's a The Road feeling here. You never know what will happen next, but it's obvious it could be something pretty bad.
The past/present jumps are interesting and add a lot to the story, giving knowledge of the events and helping to learn a little who the characters are. However, if you're searching for a book with complex characters, you'll be disappointed by this one.
The writing is ok, nothing special here, it's neither great or bad.

152301 I like the scene in the dress! The colors are really lovely :)

152301 Wow, well done :)

152301 I would like to see some dragons in the sky, but they're not usually really nice with people, so it would be messy! Pern seems a nice choise :)

152301 This is a difficult one ^^ I don't think the characters I love the most would be happy here, so I'll choose the other pill. I read almost only fantasy and dystopias, which often have not very welcoming worlds. However, it was easy to imagine living in the city in Hollow World, where the technology can make lovely things like a forest bathroom or a windy and sunny dinning room! I liked the different works too and the people :)

152301 Can you add the week or move the topic on the right folder, please? :)

152301 I really like all Hobb's books (except The Soldier Son who bored me to death, but I read only the 1st half). She's a very skilled writer and after several series, her world building is really amazing and some of her characters are the ones you'll remember for a long time :)
I've to read her last Fitz&Fool series, but it's not finished yet, so I'll wait a little before reading it.

152301 I just started it, I think it will be an easy read for me as I enjoy the writing. So far, the atmosphere is interesting and a bit creepy, I'm curious about what will happen next.

152301 Haha, the cover is a bit creepy, but interesting :)

152301 My mom gave me a book with 370pages (plus 2 others, in case I'll survive...). You're lucky with you short one :D

I'm looking forward to your opinion on Wool (if you like it, you have to read the sequels, the 2nd is a prequel explaining all, the 3rd is a good conclusion). I'll read another book by this author for this week, I hope it will be as interesting and a little more fast paced.

152301 We are halfway done with Week 21 and you read a book recommended by a parent (hopefully, you survived!).

This discussion thread is solely for your progress (book discussions go in individual threads).

What did you read this week?

Did you enjoy the book?

Do you come from a family where people like reading?

152301 I can change my mind but I'm thinking about reading The Magicians. The book has some pretty bad ratings (and some good ones, of course) and several of my friends couldn't finish it. There will be a tv show next year for the series and I enjoyed the trailer, so it's an interesting possibility.

152301 I bought this some years ago because it seemed popular. I never went over the 50 first pages. Good luck :)
152301 In my country, Nancy Drew is published as children books (for less than 10 years old), my mother and me read them at this age. I was a big fan, I think I read almost all of them, but I'm not sure I would have enjoy them at 15 :)

152301 The Popsugar challenge has several specific types of books (romance, true story, non fiction, memoir, thriller...) and as I don't usually enjoy most of these, it's a struggle to read the books. However, it's a good way to discover new things, so why not, but it will be nice to try other genres than the ones read this year :)

We need to start doing the 2016 list, so if there are people available... ;)

152301 It's nice to see so many people who enjoyed the book :)
May 23, 2015 10:39AM

152301 I'm from the same part of the country than D'Artagnan (it seems it's a real guy). There's a statue of him (made 300 years after his time :p) in the city I was born, it's funny ^^
There were 2 TV cartoons about the 3 Musketeers when I was kid (one with dog people, the other with humans and a twist with Aramis), so I'm pretty familiar with the story since a young age. I've read the book when I was in highschool (but not for school) and enjoyed it. At some point, I'll re-read it and the sequel to see how they are now.

Have fun with it :)

152301 Reading this after Toby Alone was like a punishment. The characters are flat and cliché, nothing happens in the 1st half as it's just a long list of furnitures and uninteresting memories, and the 2nd half was not really better.
A huge disappointment here, maybe I'll read the sequel but if it's written in the same way, I'll be bored all along.

There are some nice ratings for the book, so maybe it's just me. As it's a short book, if you're interested, you can give it a try.
