152301 Surveymoz is nice, I like the drag&drop too :)

152301 I do this too, don't worry, we are normal :D

152301 Making our own challenges is helpful to decrease a little the TBR list :)
Jun 29, 2015 01:01PM

152301 I'd prefer the reader's choice at mid-challenge too, the first weeks were easy and compelling (not because of the topics but because I just planned all my weeks and was eager to try new books). However, starting with 500+p was not the wiser choice, so a topic easy to customize will be nicer :)

152301 How many books have you read so far this year? 60 novels and 34 others (graphic novels, short stories, picture books...).
How many are for this challenge? 38 (for 32 weeks)
How many other challenges are you currently working on? 1 other
What has been your favorite book so far? Hollow World
Least favorite? It's between GoT2 and The Borrowers
Were there any books that you thought you would hate and ended up loving them? No, but I enjoyed some books more than what I expected.
How many times (roughly) do you think you've changed titles on your reading plan? I've changed around 15 books since the beginning, others are from my original plan.
Have you followed the challenge in order, or have you jumped around to what you want to read first? Mostly in order but I doubled weeks for long books and jumped ahead when I had some free reading time.

152301 Jeez, I usually really like movies about computers/internet/whatever geek, so this book is painful. I want to rewatch all the movies and Halt and Catch Fire (the tv show) is trying to lure me into watching tv.

Otherwise, the book is an interesting computer history thing, I'm learning a lot about it, even if it's not easy to understand everything (what, they had to think to make/use pixels?). On the memoir side, there are few insights about Jobs' thoughts, it's more external points of view, which is a little disappointing. He didn't seem a nice person when he was young, so something more personal would have help to find him nicer or to understand why he was a jerk.

152301 No, I read almost in english, which is not my first language, so I read really slowly (I try to read 1-2 books in french per month, I usually finish one in 2-3 days, helped by week-ends). I read a lot and decreased (a lot) my tv show/movies time :)

152301 Because laugh or cry are the only emotions? :p
While reading, I love, I hate, I smile, I'm a bit sad, I'm annoyed or I'm sooo bored. It's already lots of feelings.

152301 It's a nice way to do it Renata, I would have no difficulties to do it for some categories but most of them are out of my comfort zone :)

I've the same problem for the cry and funny books, it's really difficult to decide what to read for this categories. I usually don't laugh or cry while reading, so it doesn't help...

152301 June 27: I hope everyone is doing well with the challenge. You know what? We are 50% done with the weeks! :)
It's time to check how the group is doing, you can vote in this poll (Ends at July 8).

Last poll: What week are you looking forward to the most in July? (Ends at July 6)

152301 I find easier to write the review while reading the book (usually I do it around 50% when I have a good taste of the book) and to modify it later!

I like when people give some feedback about their challenge books, it's easier to know if I will be interested in reading them or not :)
Jun 26, 2015 06:37AM

152301 I was not interested in the setting for this one. Beauty as a society achievement was too silly for me and the overall story didn't show enough strong points to balance it.
I didn't read the sequels, did you enjoy them more or less? :)
Jun 25, 2015 03:53PM

152301 I was really pleased when they announced it, because I've a huge list of fantasy books I want to read and it's really difficult to know where to start! The categories are interesting enough and it's easy to find a book which fits :)
Jun 25, 2015 03:28PM

152301 The Phantom of the opera, my old book was... boring, with lots of uninteresting things and a shabby atmosphere. The characters were melodramatic a lot, which could be funny but not for all a book. I'm glad I read it because it's a classic and because the musical and architectural parts were interesting and added a lot to the atmosphere.

I finished my 2nd trilogy book. There were some interesting chapters in the 2nd part and the points of view were way more balanced, but it was too slow paced for me. I'm a bit sad I didn't succeed to enter the story, I hope the 3rd book will be more compelling.

Black Feathers, my cover book, was more than what I expected and I was totally delighted by the ecological tone :) Well written, interesting apocalyptic story, really it's one of the great surprises from the challenge. As it's the 1st part of the story, I've to read The Book of the Crowman as a side-read.

Side-reads: I listened and enjoyed the audiobook for the short story Professional Integrity, was disappointed by the very short Fireflies and delighted by the graphic novel Nimona. Maybe I'll use it for the challenge but it's too early in the year to decide which comic book I'll pick for this week.
I read 2 books too, Dentelle et nécromancie, a french steampunk book heavy on romance (not really realistic, but it was a page turner) and The Emperor's Edge, a light headed fantasy book with some steampunk, it was nicely done and a good break from more darker stories (and it's free :p).

I completed 32 weeks, so I'm doing well with the challenge and I continue to be ahead of schedule. As there are some books I'm eager to read, I'll probably finish the challenge before the end of the year :)

152301 What did you read this week?Black Feathers
Black Feathers (Black Dawn, #1) by Joseph D'Lacey

Did you enjoy the book?
Oh yes :D It's better than what I expected and it's on my favorite list from now.

Do you think the cover gave you a good clue about what was in the book?
Yes and no. It definitively has an apocalyptic subject but I expected something more "biohazard" oriented. The story has in fact an ecological tone and there's fantasy too. By the way, the title is just perfect and gave a good clue.

Are the book covers usually important when you choose a book?
Yes, I usually choose books by their covers. Of course, I can read ugly ones but I'm less appealed by them.

152301 I heard good things about it too, I'm curious to read it but I don't know when I'll do it!
152301 Interesting cover! I like the 3D feeling :)
