111707 An author visited my old college over a year ago. He said he's characters each have a sliver of his personality. So you may not know it, but each character may have a piece of your personality within. :3

I know mine do xD
111707 Adding to what Carl said, I hated my job at Taco Hell, but I have it included in my novel because I have a character who works at "Spicy Taco" and he hates his job. So it's a great way to rant about your job. >:3

@ J. David--my story takes place at a fictionalized-version of my old college and it does feel weird to me, too. I think on the back of my mind I thought it was weird, but after reading your comment, I have the same feeling with mine. Being a different school now makes me want to recreate the college for my novel. Have my male and female leads live in co-ed residence halls instead of single-sex ones... I don't know. lol

@ Bisky - My dad said I have fast reflexes especially when driving. :3 Fight or flight, I guess. :3
Scent of a Novel (20 new)

111707 Wet grass smells better to me than cut grass. Pine's a pleasant scent, too. We have some young evergreen trees in my yard at home that smell good. :3

As Karen said earlier in the post... Coffee is a dominant scent in my story and cigarette smoke. My character used to smoke cigarettes and do 'bad bad' drugs back in the day, and in the novel she starts smoking normal cigarettes again. Also, there are a lot of sweet smells, but through the limited third-person narrator, sweets smells are considered stenches and odors because my protagonist hates sweets. :3

111707 Well I can't stay up past 11:30 very well, so... :3 haha

I'm trying to adapt to a teacher's schedule. But having a room-mate slightly complicates things.

111707 I couldn't imagine writing that late. lol - but I guess your sleeping schedule's a variable, too. :3

111707 I suppose hearing keystrokes is a sign that you're making progress. :3

111707 @Quanisha - There are a few times I wore ear plugs when writing, and it helped a bit. :3

I haven't really found a music that suits me for writing. When I transcribe content I write in long hand I can have music playing--sometimes with editing.

I like to listen to anime music when I draw and sometimes when I edit. You don't know the words, so they don't distract you--unless you know Japanese of course xD

I guess I never considered if the keystroke sounds are distracted. Maybe they distract me subconsciously.

111707 lol Rapid typists make a lot of noise :3

I actually had a word processor a while back that made type-writer sounds while typing, but it didn't feel too authentic. xD
Sep 21, 2013 07:36AM

111707 I need to start editing, too. xD

You could get a type-writer and use that in the candlelight. But they are loud... >.>
111707 You'd have fun during Halloween here. :3

I guess it depends where you are in the states that determines if you want to leave. People get very bored in the north/middle part of the country. But in another post you said you loved real snow. We get it as early as October and as late as April. We had like 18 inches of snow during a blizzard around April 15 this past spring. o.O

So maybe you wouldn't get bored. xD

I've seen some articles about London fashion. Seems more exciting than what people wear around here. lol
Sep 21, 2013 07:23AM

111707 I like to write long-hand sometimes. :3

It seems with that selection your nose will never get 'bored.' :3
111707 I loved my 90s, too. :3

It wasn't until high school when everybody started having cell phones, unlike nowadays where 6-year-olds have their own electronic tablets. xD Growing up, I ways always outside, unlike nowadays where kids are in the house all the time. lol

New Zealand would be a great place x3

I think if we can remember dial-up Internet, we're going to be o.k. xD

111707 Maybe you can have events going on that typically don't occur at a wedding. You can be brief with the ceremonial stuff--unless you have 'deviant' action going on during the 'I do' scene or something. :3

Something that's abnormal from a typical wedding.

If you're stuck, maybe think of an event that will happen soon and go backwards in figuring out what leads to that event. :3

111707 @Willow - It's a nice feeling having something written on paper! :3 The only problem is that you need to type it up xD But that's a good time for little changes. :3

@Robin - As long as you can read it. :D

@Topaz - I alternate between print and cursive, too. With your swirls and curlicues you can make your signature stand out on thank-you cards with oodles of signatures. >:D
111707 Seeing what the impending generation has for music (like with Miley Cyrus--what was she doing? Doing an ad for a strip club??) makes me glad I wasn't born any later. I actually wish I was born 10 years earlier or during my parents' generation. Yeah, I'd be balder, but that's O.K.

111707 When I still lived at home, I liked writing early before others wake up. I liked writing in the afternoon and evening on the patio after the sun goes behind the house and provides shade. I really haven't found a great writing time since I've been living at university. :/

I like the scented candle idea! I'll give that a try when I go home next. They don't allow candles in dorms for obvious reasons. I talked to someone on Twitter a month ago about writing in candlelight. That's something I also want to try. :3

111707 @G.G. A co-worker of mine from when I still worked at fast food was always watching Bones on Netflix during his break. xD

@Rhian My mom loves watching many of those shows. She's watched Shield on her Kindle Fire. :3 I haven't seen many episodes of The Closer/Major Crimes, but it's always entertaining when I watch them. :3
Sep 20, 2013 12:34PM

111707 @Kamil - I like how his parental biological instincts kick it. :3

@Rick - I watch Fox News quite a bit, and all of these apparent 'scandals' seems like good ideas for stories. But a few things I hear on the news weave into my writing. There's a chapter where my character's moping on the couch in the dorm common room. Bill O'Reilly's on the TV that's just on, she ain't watching it xD

111707 I don't really watch TV, much, either. Just some talk shows on a news channel. (I love to watch Red Eye with Greg Gutfeld--but that ain't really a series)

A really liked watching Law and Order (and its spin-offs) and Criminal Minds with my mother.

I've been watching NYPD Blue on Amazon Prime. :3 But I look forward to the Walking Dead this fall!!

Having a New York setting helps out because about 1/3 to 1/4 of Scarlet takes place in New York and right now much, much of the reboot of my old novel will take place in New York City.

111707 In my old writing, I had bad guys who were pure villain, but I've altered them in newer stories. :3 Well-rounded characters with both good guy and bad guy qualities are better. :3

As I was thinking of this question, I had a tough time answering it myself. A few of the characters from my old novel 'evolved' from former projects going way back.
