From No. 1 to No. 60, Readers' Top Books Published in the Past Five Years
Spend enough time on this planet and random questions will gradually surface in the brain. Who invented the window? Why are oranges orange? And what are the 60 most popular books on Goodreads over the past five years?
We’re here to tackle that last question with today’s collection of the 60 top books published in the last half-decade, according to Goodreads members. This particular list is strictly by the numbers. We counted up the number of times Goodreads members marked these books as Want to Read, Currently Reading, or already Read. Then we looked at the average ratings on each title, with all of these books earning at least a 3.5-average star rating from fellow readers.
The books are sequenced according to overall popularity, without regard to genre or categorization. As such, for now, Alex Michaelides’ 2019 psychological thriller The Silent Patient is the most popular book overall. It seems that Goodreads regulars are also enjoying mysteries, romance, and the relatively new hybrid designation known as romantasy.
Authorwise, you’ll notice the usual suspects list of Goodreads fan favorites here—perennially popular writers including Sarah J. Maas, Taylor Jenkins Reid, Kristin Hannah, and Emily Henry. But the discerning reader will find all manner of things to catch the eye. Hockey lust, say, or Dickensian updates, or octopi.

I've read 13 books from the list and 1 TBR. I'm still undecided about delving into the worlds created by Taylor Jenkins Reid and Colleen Hoover...
I have read 18 and enjoyed each one. Looking over the list, I have gotten some ideas for some future reading.
I've read 34 so far from this list. Some of the others are on my TBR list.

Remarkably Bright Creatures, The Four Winds - Absolutely beautiful books! I adored them.The Maid, The Women, In Five Years - I loved these too.
Lessons in Chemistry, Book Lovers, Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow - Wanted to enjoy them, but for the life of me, I can't figure out what the hype was all about...
Yawn... this goes to show most people read very boring stuff.
I have read 35 of these so far and loved all of them except 1!! .. one day I'll get through them all!! :)

Surprised about The Silent Patient, it was good but not the best thriller I've read.

Maid secrets, romances, crime fiction. Pure pulp. Should we attribute the term ‘reading’ to any visual activity? A scanner is better in that.
I've read 11 and about the same are on my TBR. Demon Copperhead, The Vanishing Half and Lessons in Chemistry up next. I have read one each of Colleen Hoover and Emily Henry but I am just not into them!
I've only read 10 but they're almost all on my TBR list.

Obviously everyone has different taste, i mainly read fantasy so some of the books i've read (that are also kinda popula & appreciated) missing fom this list are "She who became the sun", "babel", "the poppy war".. then there's "the final strife", everything that Chakraborty (hope i spelled right) wrote in the lat 5 years..
Then anyone who reads other genres could add titles that are not present in this list and, for some reason or another, should be.
As i said before, the problem with list is the criteria with which they chose the books, which is completely random:
We counted up the number of times Goodreads members marked these books as Want to Read, Currently Reading, or already Read.
These are not the most popular books (as in the ones people talk about the most), nor the most reviewed on this app, nor the most appreciated (per avg review point or via publick poll).
This is much bugger, but an example of a good thought list is the NYT 100 best books of the 21st century, these books were chosen by a commission of authors & critics, then there'sthe ones voted by the readers ( the poll is till up - if you want to add to the list)..
OFC everyone will always have their opinion, but if there's a specific, well though, criteria, people wouldn't complain about this goodreads list.
I've read 12 of these, and 10 are on my 'want to read' list.
I've read 15 and dnf'd another 5Only 8/60 are BIPOC...that's concerning. We need to do better about reading diversely (I know it's based on numbers before anyone comes at me)

I've read 5 of these! However, most of these books are in my Kindle Library or my physical bookshelf waiting for me, lol :)
There are a lot of books on this list that I won't read because most aren't that good. Smh

I've read 14 on this list, with another 10 on my tbr. It's mostly the romances that aren't haha. Just not my personal taste.

I've read 14 titles from this list (and another 6 are on my "to read" list). Many of the other titles are from genres or authors I just don't prefer to read, so... I think this is a pretty "good" collection of "popular" titles. I always really enjoy perusing these lists :)

I've read 5 and have 5 more in the stack to be read... might read more of them sometime - besides those 10. I read about 36 books a year, not a fast reader- and I have been trying to get some older books read.

1 = TBR2 = Interested
3 = Maybe
8 = Read
27 = DO NOT READ (problematic books/authors)

I loved Lessons In Chemistry. Also a big fan of Tessa Bailey, Ali hazel wood, and the silent patient was so good!
