I ordered a Wealthy apple, a NorthStar Cherry, and three blueberries--and they arrived today! The cherry and apple are in the ground, the blueberries are next. All out front--the apple on the end of the "apple row", the cherry a little ways down the hill (I'm hoping that will work OK) and the blueberries are going in front of the forsythia.
And I'm contemplating the raised bed for the potatoes--not in the garden as I'd planned, but... on the hill. Why not? Depending on how big I make it, it wo...

I placed the second half of my seed order last night--herbs and flowers--and I'm just about finished for the year. Lots of flowers this year; I have a specific plan to bring more bees into my garden, along with butterflies and suchlike. Not that they don't come anyway, with the apple mint, but I'm giving them some incentive. And anyway, flowers are pretty! :)

Monday I decided to take a bit of a break from Ravelry. While it's largely my "social time", and I love my friends there, I really need to concentrate on the yard and garden and the house for the next two months. (Not to mention writing A Glint of Silver!) So I will be only sporadically posting over there. I will, however, continue to regularly update my blog. I'm also available via email and phone.

I ended Buy Nothing Lent by purchasing my seeds for the garden this year (except for what I can get locally for cheaper prices and some flower seed I want to order elsewhere), one cherry tree, one apple tree, and three blueberry bushes.

So I get this question a lot. "How do you have time to bake bread?" Or, alternatively, "Why do you bother to bake bread?" (The questions always come from the people who taste my bread and love it, but they truly don't understand why I bake bread.)
Well, the same question could be asked, "Why do I plant a garden every year so that I can grow my own food?" Or, "Why do you write books?" Or, heck, "Why do you spin your own yarn?"
I don't have a lot of "spare time." I say that because it's true--I...

I'm still plying, but I only have six plying cakes left, once I get the big one I'm working on now finished. (And it's not even halfway yet.) So, progress! After I'm done, there will be a big finishing-of-yarn wash, thwack, and dry, and then I get to weave with most of it. I have plans for almost all of it. In fact, since it's nice today and I'm off work, I might start finishing some of it today...

So yesterday it was nice enough outside that I brought my notebook and spinning and pen and inkwell outside to write a bit before I had to leave again. It was so lovely to sit in the sunlight and write! And the sky was so brought and blue and it felt like spring.
Today, it's supposed to sleet and rain and snow. Of course. :)
