Where Do Synchronicities Come From
Ever wonder where synchronicities come from? But first, let’s go over what synchronicities are. Synchronicity occurs when a situation happens that isn’t random. Instead, there is meaning behind the occurrence. It’s too powerful to be a coincidence, rather it is a Godcidence. You will have a feeling or knowing something important has happened, which will teach you a lesson and/or help you with your life direction.
A synchronicity can occur in a number of ways. It can appear through song lyrics, movies, surfing the internet, overhearing a conversation, seeing the same number constantly, and other ways. Here are two examples of synchronicity. You’re wondering if you should study Reiki, then ten minutes later a friend texts you information about an upcoming Reiki course because they thought you be interested in it. Or you’re in a rush for an event where you’re the speaker and feel concerned you won’t find a parking spot on the city street. To your shock, there are two spots open, so it’s easier to park in the tight spaces.
Get Your Free GiftsSometimes when you ignore a synchronicity, they will occur again and again. Decades ago, I was in a bookstore, and Harold S. Kushner’s book, When Bad Things Happen to Good People, caught my attention, although I didn’t buy it because I prefer books from female authors. Ten minutes later, I was at the library, when lo-and-behold, there was the same book. I thought maybe I’ll read it another time. When it appeared a third time on the library’s fifty cents bargain shelf, I couldn’t ignore it. Kushner’s book was a great read, and a vital lesson to always pay attention to a synchronicity the first time.
Where Do Synchronicities Come From? Now, that you have a better idea what synchronicity is. Where does it come from? The American Heritage Dictionary fifth edition gives one meaning, as follows:
Coincidence of events that appear meaningfully related but do not seem to be causally connected, taken by Jungian psychoanalytic theory to be evidence of a connection between the mind and material objects.
Personally, that definition doesn’t cut it for me. Take my example of the book appearing three times within fifteen minutes; of course, there was a connection between my mind and material objects. However, it wasn’t my mind that put the books at the bookstore and library. So who did?
I get a vision of my Spirit Guide using Heavenly forces to have the book stand out in the bookstore. Then gasping because I didn’t want to spend money on the book. Because my next stop was the library, my Spirit Guide moved around the book, thinking I’ll pick it up and check out the book because it’s free. Now, my Spirit Guide is wondering, “Why won’t she get it?” So my guide pulls the book out of the ethers and places it on the bargain shelf. When I pay the librarian fifty cents, my Spirit Guide is going around doing high fives with other spiritual beings while singing Hallelujah!
Okay, maybe it didn’t happen that way, but you get the idea.
To answer the question of where do synchronicities come from? They come from a power that’s greater than humans. Call it God, Goddess, Higher Power, Angels, the Universe, ancestors, or whatever makes you comfortable. It’s important to know a synchronicity is done for your highest good, personal growth, and spirituality.
Final ThoughtsThe next time a so-called coincidence occurs, think of it as a synchronicity. Then open your mind to the action you need to take for your betterment. If you need help with this, other spiritual growth topics, or a psychic email reading, please visit my service page.

My Audiobooks Using Google Auto-narrated
I am pleased to announce my audiobooks using Google auto-narrated! *Originally posted 1-16-2022. Are you wondering what the heck Google auto-narrated is? The following description is from Google:
Instead of being read by a person in a recording studio, auto-narrated audiobooks are read using Google technology. This high-quality narration offers a variety of gender and accent combinations. Publishers can convert their existing ebooks in under 2 hours, at a fraction of the cost of conventionally produced audiobooks.
Google recommends it for self-help and nonfiction books, but not for long dialogue and emotional content. This is the technology I used for four of my self-help books: Learn the Secret Language of Dreams, Personal Growth Affirmations, Insights for Singles: Steps to Find Everlasting Love, and Psychic Wisdom on Love and Relationships.
Benefits of My Audiobooks Using Google Auto-narratedThe number one benefit is for a limited time it’s FREE to use! Therefore, I can sell it to you for the same price as the eBook. Since my eBooks were already in the Google Play Store, it was a simple process for me to edit the text file for Google technology to create the audiobook. Easy-peasy and now I have audiobooks to offer. Plus Google Play audiobooks are available around the globe.
Usual Production of AudiobooksAn eBook costs are for editing, formatting, cover, and so forth, which can be from $500.00 – $3,000. Then add the costs of converting this eBook to an audiobook. According to Findaway Voices, an audiobook with about 50,000 words can cost anywhere from $1,000 – $2,000 to create. Of course, there are other routes to find a narrator that may be priced higher or lower depending upon their expertise and experience.
These narrators deserved to be compensated. I know the amount of labor involved just to record and edit a ten-minute podcast. There are some authors who do it themselves, which still costs them time and money for the proper equipment.
Perhaps you are wondering why I didn’t use Audible? Sadly, I have heard many complaints and horror stories from authors on social media, such as long contracts, ridiculous return policies, and low earnings on sales. If you’re interested, here’s an article from Alliance of Independent Authors.
Whatever route I decided to take, regardless of the production cost, I still need to share a large percentage for each sale with the distributor and/or book platform. This is true with eBooks and paperbacks, too. Everyone wants a piece of the pie!
How Does Auto-narrated Sound? Before creating my audiobooks using Google’s auto-narrated, I did research. I listened to the majority of the voices, and I liked Mary and Michelle the best. There was a part of me that wanted to use Anya for my audiobooks, yet I thought it would be weird as an American to use a British accent. I decided to use Mary for my longer audiobooks and Michelle for the shorter ones. Then I listened to the auto-narrated books Google has on their platform and checked out their reviews. Many of the reviews were positive, although there were negative ones. Like always – opinions vary.
In my humble opinion, I felt the voices were well done. The feedback from a few of my family members and friends was positive. Who knows, this might be the future of nonfiction and self-help audiobooks?
Why not sample the auto-narrated yourself by listening to the samples of my four audiobooks? If you have an iPhone, click for their Google Play app.

Going Gray Cold Turkey with Long Hair
When transiting from dyed hair to natural hair color, women may choose to chop it to speed up the process or visit the salon for highlights to blend their roots with the dye. Then there’s going gray cold turkey with long hair. The latter is the toughest route because it can take two, three, or more years to achieve your desired hair length. And this is the path I took.
While chopping off hair speeds up the transition, it’s a shock to see yourself with a skunk line AND short hair. Highlights and other blending techniques salons perform may work well for women with healthy hair, especially those with light color hair. However, if your hair is damaged or a dark color; you’re playing Russian roulette with your hair. I belong to three Facebook groups for women embracing their silvers, and have read hundreds upon hundreds of posts and comments from women who regretted having this process done. They complain about it frying their hair, turning orange or green, and the upkeep.
Advantages of Going Gray Cold Turkey with Long HairWe live in a world of instant, yet our hair doesn’t instantly grow without extensions or a wig. On average, hair grows half an inch a month. Many things in life are worth the wait and allowing your silvers to grow in naturally is another. Here are six reasons for going cold turkey with long hair:
You can ease yourself and watch the process of your natural hair color emerging. This helps you to get used to viewing yourself with silver hair. If you truly despise the way you look, then you can dye it again without losing your length. There’s no risk of damaging your hair with blending techniques. Plus, those salon visits are expensive, and there’s a ton of upkeep for you to do in between. You will avoid the horrible grow out from short hair to a longer length.Fewer salon visits equal more money in your pocket because there is less upkeep with long hair.Hairstyle options! You can leave your hair loose, braid it, and do a ponytail or bun. It’s fun to twirl long locks.Straight Hair vs Curly & Natural HairWhatever type of hair you have, there are two main advantages and disadvantages to keeping your hair long during the transition. As follows:
Straight HairStraight hair’s advantage is it takes two years to reach the shoulders. Its disadvantage is the demarcation “aka skunk line” stands out in an even line around the head.Curly and Natural HairThe advantage is the skunk line blends in the curls/coils without an even line.Curly/natural hair disadvantage is it takes longer to grow in length because of the shrinkage. At two years, the shoulder hair length can shrink anywhere between the chin to the roots.
Click on Book to Learn MoreHow to Handle Polite Hair TrollsAre you wondering what a polite hair troll is? It’s a term I came up with to describe judgmental people who give unsolicited hair advice in a nice manner. There will be at least one or more people who will make comments when you stop dying your hair. I wrote a blog on How to Deal with Unwanted Advice and Comments. And I would recommend reading Katie Goes Platinum’s article on this topic.
Women in Facebook groups are supportive of other women who experience negative feedback on allowing their natural hair color to grow in. What shocked me was some of these supportive women became polite hair trolls to women who are going gray cold turkey with long hair.
I’ve experienced unsolicited advice to chop my hair and other unhelpful tips, which are really their judgmental opinions. This taught me NOT to do the following two responses:
Stick up for myself as the woman will be offended, because she her comment is helpful. Or tell me that I’m rude because I dared to make a boundary.Explain why I’m going gray cold turkey with long hair. However, that’s time-consuming. And none of these strangers’ business. The method that does work is reporting the comment to the group administer. But what I like to do is to delete their comments. It feels empowering to watch these strangers’ unsolicited advice disappear. In some cases, you may need to block her as you would an impolite hair troll.
Final ThoughtsDespite the tougher route of going gray cold turkey with long hair, it’s worth the trip. Other women and I who chose this journey have gained self-confidence, created healthy boundaries, and learned patience. Plus, our hair looks awesome!

Cat Rules for Love and Business
The inspiration for writing a blog about cat rules for love and business came from my recent LinkedIn post. *Originally posted 11-21-21. This post’s idea happened during a morning walk, where I came up with the following business analogies. Then I realized that it would be appropriate for love relationships, too. Actually, the following cat wisdom rules could purrfectly be applied to all areas of life.
My whole life, cats whom I never met before, have approached me to rub up against me and for me to pet, during my stroll in a neighborhood. How does this apply to mine and your business, plus love relationship? With the following three steps:
Cat Rules for Love and Business First StepUpon seeing a new cat during my walk, I purr, “Hello, Kitty,” while allowing the cat to decide whether to come up to me. If I boldly walk up and attempt to pet her/him, the cat might think – stranger, danger!
BusinessThis is the same method I apply to new clients by: writing blogs, being active on social media, guest blogging, being a guest on a podcast, and so forth. If I do cold emailing, bombard my services on social media and other types of those hard marketing practices, people will RUN away like a kitty!
Love RelationshipWhen you are seeking your life partner and use pushy tactics during your man/woman hunt. It sends out a beacon of neediness and/or aggression. Those approaches will repel a potential love relationship.
Cat Rules for Love and Business Second StepOnce a cat decides to approach me, I allow it to sniff me, make a gentle attempt to pet it, and back off if it doesn’t want to be petted. In other words – I “patiently” allow it to go at its own pace. If it is meant to be, the cat will eventually allow me the honor of petting him/her.
BusinessThis is another method I use in business. It is important to allow a potential client to find out about me in a way that is comfortable for him/her. Whether that’s making comments on my social media posts, emailing me about my services and products, and deciding to make a purchase.
LoveThis tactic is very important when for a love relationship! Unless you desire to have an unhappy and unhealthy relationship. Rushing into a relationship is a tactic that abusive people and sexual predators use for their prey. Instead, good old-fashion courtship is the way to go.
Cat Rules for Love and Business Step ThreeToday, a beautiful Siamese cat who knows me as a safe human, saw me, and started running towards me. It head butted me and rubbed up against me like crazy. I petted it and it rewarded me with lots of kisses. When I went to leave, the cat didn’t want me to go. Then the shy, long hair cat who lives in the same household, meowed and ran towards me for attention. When they both had enough love, they walked away. (More rules after the video pin that was taken a few days later.)
Shh, don’t tell my cats, Rhiannon and Tiger, about my purrfect neighbors BusinessYou know where I’m going with the last cat analogy. These are my ideal clients. They want what I have to offer and approach me. I work with them on their terms, while helping them to the best of my ability, and allow them to walk away when it’s time. Trusting that when they need me, they will contact me. Just like when it’s time, my Siamese and long hair friends will come to visit during my walk.
LoveStep three is a sign of a healthy relationship. Allow your mate to show his/her affection, while understanding the need for space to do their own thing. Trust that if the love is real, your partner will return to spend time with you.
In Meow ConclusionPurr, purr, hopefully you will apply these three cat rules in every area of your life. If you need help with this, your spiritual growth, or need a dream interpreted, please visit my services and shop pages.

Trusting Your Intuition Despite Other’s Opinions
We all have intuition, yet trusting your intuition despite other’s opinions is not easy to do. People call it a gut feeling, a hunch, a still small voice, or a knowing. This is a gift, although many people disregard it by making excuses of why not to listen to their intuition. However, they usually want to kick themselves in the butt after experiencing a horrible outcome, which they could have avoided if they had followed their gut’s advice.
Another contributing factor of why people don’t listen to their intuition is other people’s opinion. How many times have you allowed someone’s words to stop you from doing what you know is right? We all have done this. This lesson happens again and again until we learn to stay in our own truth.
Not Trusting Your IntuitionHere’s two examples of this (with made up names) of what can happen when they didn’t listen to their intuition:
Trusting Your Intuition About a PersonSusie meets Kenny and something felt off about him. She couldn’t put her finger on it, but had a hunch not to accept a date with him. When she confides her feelings to a co-worker, the co-worker responds, “He’s so nice, give him a chance, and go out with him.”
On her first and only date with Kenny: he takes three phone calls, claims he lost his wallet at an expensive restaurant, she pays the entire bill, and fights off his octopus hands on the cab ride home. After the date, Susie wished she had stayed home in her jammies and read a fantasy book.
Trusting Your Intuition About a Career ChoiceBen loves playing his guitar and his band has an opportunity to tour around the nation. His inner knowing is pushing him to go; however, his family convinces him not to go and work in their business that one day they will hand over to him.
On the tour, Ben’s former band received a record deal and becomes famous. Meanwhile, Ben is stuck in a business that he loathes. He often thinks to himself – if only I went on tour and didn’t listen to my family’s advice.
The latter example may seem extreme; nonetheless, it happens all the time.
Click to Learn More About the BookWhy People Don’t Validate Your IntuitionWhy do people talk you out of listening to your intuition? For these following reasons:
They love you and are afraid you’ll get hurt. They want and think they know what’s best for you. They are speaking from what they believe is true. They think they know better. They are jealous. And for many other reasons.Trust Your IntuitionIt takes courage to follow your inner wisdom despite what others’ opinions are. Yet, pay attention, then act on your intuition. The worst that can happen is it leads you down an uncomfortable path. There will be a lesson for you to learn. Perhaps the lesson was to assist you in your spiritual growth or that you listened to your ego instead of your intuition. At least you lived as you believed.
Lastly, remember that opinions vary. What’s true for someone else doesn’t mean it’s true for you.

3 Tips to Deal with Unwanted Advice and Comments
How many times have you been too shocked to respond, bitten your tongue, or wanted to lash out at someone’s words? Then this blog post about tips to deal with unwanted advice and comments is for you. Before I go into how to respond, let’s step into the other person’s shoes, as everyone has put their foot in their mouth every once in a while.
Why People Give Unwanted Advice and CommentsHere are three reasons:
Out of love, being concerned, and/or wanting to help you.Their way of controlling you.To boost their self-esteem by feeling more knowledgeable and/or superior than you are.3 Tips to Deal with Unwanted Advice and CommentsWhether it is one of the above three reasons above or another motivation, you don’t have to tolerate it. Here are three tips:
Breathe DeepOften unwanted advice and comments have a negative tone; therefore, it may cause angry feelings. It’s easy to lash out at others with anger by responding with criticism or telling them to F off. Yet, that’s can be stooping down to their level.
Instead, breathe deep and take a moment before responding. If you are really angry to the point of bashing them, don’t respond, or walk away. Here’s a personal example that happened to me many moons ago:
I attended a family function with my sister, brother-in-law, and my niece, who was a toddler at the time. It had been about a decade since I last saw the majority of these relatives. A distant great uncle looked at my niece and said to me, “When are you going to start popping them out?”
My first thought was – I go out and get laid tonight, will that make you happy? This is how I responded, “It would be a good idea if I got married first.” Then I walked away to avoid making a scene.
Is It A Trigger?Everything happens for a reason and sometimes the Universe, Higher Source, or whatever you choose to call it, will use other people’s unwanted advice and comments into your life to trigger issues for you to resolve. Oh, joy; however, it’s for you to heal. Why do we need to be triggered? Here’s three reasons why:
Create stronger boundaries.Realize past issues and heal them.Discover your correct path despite other’s opinions.Need an example? My hair history is a great example. Through the years, people have told me to: iron it, perm it, straighten it, thin it out, cut it, dye it… Fifteen months ago I decided to allow my natural hair color to grow in, which you can read about in this post “Gray Hair for Self-Acceptance.”
Before and especially now that my true hair color has grown past my ears, I’ve received unwanted advice and comments to cut my hair. This really triggers me because I have unpleasant memories of the two times I had short hair and growing it out is horrendous! Plus, my hair grows sideways like a mushroom top, aka Bozo the Clown, with Shirley Temple curls. Slowly, but surely, I am healing my hair trauma.
How to Respond to Unwanted Advice and CommentsPlease note that it takes strength to respond in kindness. Forgive yourself if you respond in anger or criticize the person. Remember, there are times when ignoring the person with silence may be the best response, especially if they could become violent. Otherwise, choose from the following twelve comebacks:
Opinions vary.Bless your heart. My __, my choice.Do I know you?How rude! This topic is not open for discussion.Did I ask for your opinion? That doesn’t work for me.No, no, no, a thousand times no.Wow, I really wished you kept that to yourself. Now that you commented on my appearance, may I comment on yours?Unsolicited advice is the junk mail of life. – Bernard WilliamsThere’s a saying, “If you spot it, you got it.” Before you give advice or make a comment, think to yourself, is this truly helpful and what your motivation is? Then request permission, such as can I give you advice, may I tell you my experience, could I tell you what I would do if I was in your shoes, or I read information on this topic and do you want to hear it?

Gray Hair for Self-Acceptance
Does the headline “Gray hair for self-acceptance baffle you?” Many in society believe that women should never allow their white or silver hair to show. Dye it as fast as you can! Thankfully, this belief is starting to change. Silver hair is becoming fashionable, as some younger women are painting their hair that color. While there’s a gray revolution going on with older women to stop the dye and allow their true hair to emerge, especially since coronavirus is forcing us to social distance from salons.
The reason I wrote this blog (back on July 16, 2020) is to validate women’s natural color and those who have curly hair. It’s also for me to share my own experience, which I hope will encourage you to learn self-acceptance for your own hair. Here’s my brief history:
Curly HairIt wasn’t until my thirties that I truly embraced my curly, thick hair. When I was in grade school, my black girlfriends loved my hair and always wanted to braid it, while I loved touching their Afros. Bald men would comment on my hair while wishing I could give them some hair. Sadly, not everyone felt this way, and I often heard:
Straighten it.Thin it out. It’s so fizzy. Is that your real hair?Get a perm to calm your hair down.Perhaps these people meant well; however, I really wished they kept their opinions to themselves.
Gray HairMaybe I’m weird, but I have always disliked makeup and preferred the natural look. Which is why I never even considered painting my hair. Then in my early thirties, I started getting gray in the front of my hair and people just had to give their unwanted feedback. Even one of my former colleague’s customers hounded me, “You’re too young to go gray, dye it, and you will look so much prettier.”
Sigh, I wish I had better self-confidence back then. Against my better judgement, I dyed it, and continued to dye it decades later. I swore that I would be like my Aunt Frieda, who dyed her hair and kept her long hair in a bun until her death at ninety-one.
We make plans and God laughs. There were little hints before the big ones were revealed. Hair dye always made my head itch like crazy; however, the last two times I got it painted – I felt loopy and weird afterwards and wondered if it could be the chemicals from the dye.
Click to Learn More About the BookSpiritual Guidance and Covid-19As you know, many salons were shut down; therefore, society’s roots began to be shown. I had a precognitive dream about my hair that inspired me to write the blog, Dream Meanings for Hair. When my hairstylist texted me, the salon is open, my spirit guides kept telling me – no.
To make a long story short, it was time to stop painting my hair, and allow my actual color to shine through. What a perfect time to do it when we’re still in stage two of reopening and my hair is often in a bun, ponytail, or braid during our hot and humid summer. Plus, I decided to go cold turkey, be a skunk, and keep it long. This could take a year and a half or so…
I joined the three following Facebook groups – Silver Revolution, Curly Silvers, and The Gray Book for moral support. There are thousands of women in these groups who are going through this experience in the way that works best for them: bleach it, use semi-permanent dye, cut it short, go cold turkey, or having lowlights or highlights done.
Gray Hair CommentsJust like unsolicited advice for curly hair, some people really need to learn that silence is a golden rule and bite their tongue. Yet, expect to hear some of the following:
Dye it.You’re too young to go gray. You’ll look so old. When are you going to dye your hair? What’s up with your hair? You look like my grandmother.Your hair looks like a skunk.I pay for you to dye it.Dye it gray or have highlights, instead of going cold turkey that could take a year or more.Gray Hair for Self-AcceptanceIt takes courage and lots of self-acceptance when it comes to allowing your natural color to come in. It’s also an interesting ride to see the true color of your hair. At first, I thought it would be white because of my roots. However, as it grows…, my real hair color is salt and pepper or as I like to say, “Silver and obsidian.”
I’m fortunate because I have support from my life mate and family. Plus, I work from home, which makes it easier than those who work in public. Mostly, I’ve gotten positive feedback. I do have caps, bandannas, and scarves for video calls and being in public for my comfort, as I’ve heard enough stranger’s comments about my hair to last several lifetimes.
I had a ton of replies planned for those bold people who would remark on my gray, although now I just have two because I’m more comfortable with my gray journey. If someone tells me to dye my hair, my response would be:
Opinions vary. No, no, no, a thousand times no!Beauty doesn’t come in a bottle (saw that in a comment). If you’re ready, began the process of accepting your true hair color. So far, not only has my gray hair deepened my self-acceptance, it has reinforced being true to myself, and discovering the beauty of becoming older. I will keep you updated.

Pet Grief When You’re Spiritual
Even if you communicate with the dead, you will still have pet grief when you’re spiritual. This is true whether you’re a psychic, healer, and/or practice spirituality in whatever format. It’s painful when we lose our pets.
There are some people who may tell you, “It’s just an animal,” which is upsetting. However, I pity them for they have never experienced the bliss of being loved by a pet. Believe me, many more people will comprehend what you’re going through. Hundreds of people visit the blog post Dreaming of a Deceased Pet everyday on my website and a few leave comments.
With my cat, Merlin, I had dreams of his passing, felt his loving energy on the day he died (2-6-21) and afterwards, and he visited me in a few dreams, too. Despite all of these experiences, I still needed to mourn Merlin. And I continue to have feelings of grief about not having his ‘physical presence’ in my life. I miss: holding him, talking to him, yelling at him when he was naughty, hearing his meow, walking him on his leash/harness, feeding him, cleaning up after him… Click to read more about my baby boy, Merlin.
How to deal with Pet Grief When You’re SpiritualThese are nine actions I took recently when Merlin passed and before with my other pets that I would like to pass on to you.
Allow the tears to flow for the loss of your family member.Take some time off of work if possible.Acknowledge the other feelings that come up.Write letters and/or talk out loud or silently to your departed pet.Realize the guilt over the ‘could haves and should haves’ might not make any differences and were lessons for both of you.Allow other pets and family members grieve in their own way.Talk to supportive people.Preserve your pet’s memory through pictures, paintings, t-shirt, or whatever feels right to you.Give yourself as much time as you need to grieve. Some pet owners rush out and get a new pet right away. Please be careful of that because you can’t replace a beloved pet as every living being is unique. Honestly, I did that when my cat, Midnite, died in 2008 and bought my parakeet, Birdy Bird, within a couple of weeks. Part of me wanted to give Birdy Bird away when I realized he was a rebound, but I had a dream to keep him. Lesson learned!

My Baby Boy, Merlin
On February 6, 2021, my baby boy, Merlin crossed over. If you’re a cat lover like me, you know that they are part of the family; therefore, their passing causes great grief. In this blog post I will write about how he came into my life, his final months, and the joy his life brought me.
My Baby Boy, MerlinI’m pretty sure this was my first reading with Amanda Cooper when her guides informed me of a white cat coming into my life. Another psychic told me the feng shui in my home was about to change. Both readings were spot on.
Merlin Enters My LifeBirdy Bird, my parakeet at the time, needed food, so I went to PetSmart in Rockaway, NJ in June 2009. It was adoption day, and I noticed a sleeping white kitten (born 4-28-09). I asked the lady if I could hold him. This kitten let me hold him like a baby in my folded arms, next he climbed up to put his arms on my shoulder while he licked my face. He climbed back down and repeated the same actions. I was smitten!
I spoke to one of my guides, Merlin, about how much I wanted this kitten. And if my landlady (at the time) granted permission for me to adopt him, I would name him after my guide. The rest is history…
Merlin as a kittenThe BruiserMy baby boy, Merlin, was a wild kitten. That summer, as soon as one scratch mark healed on my body, he gifted me with another. He destroyed my comforter, toys, lampshade, and shower curtain. Hence, the nickname – The Bruiser.
Merlin’s PersonalityYes, Merlin was a cat; however, he had human and dog like characteristics. He loved to be held, which is so unusual for a cat. And would get mad when I would say, “I need to put you down” because the big boy was heavy!
He was super friendly to everyone, except one man who turned out to be a narcissist – smart boy. Merlin loved being the center of attention and everyone loved him! Even my shy kitty, Rhiannon, loved him. Except when he behaved like the alpha cat he was and bullied her.
My baby boy, Merlin, was so intelligent. He could do high five, follow me, and jump up as long as treats were being offered. Getting him to sit was a challenge, although when I told him, “Binx sits for Cynthia (my niece and her cat)” – he immediately sat down for me.
It took patience and persistence to walk him, or I should I say for him to walk me with his collar/harness on. We went outside together for four years and ten months.
I could go on and on with stories about my baby boy, Merlin….
Merlin hanging out on the porch.Merlin’s Vet TraumaBringing Merlin to the vet was always a dreaded affair! It wasn’t always that way. Until it traumatized him when I took him to PetSmart in Morehead City, NC, at the suggestion of dog owners I knew and to save money. Big mistake! The technician came in, shoved a thermometer up his butt, and the plastic got stuck in there. HISS! Thus began the journey of the stressful vet visits!
My Baby Boy, Merlin Last DaysThere were early indications that my baby boy, Merlin, was having health issues. During a reading in October 2020, Amanda Cooper asked me what was going on with Merlin. Then my partner, Chris, suggested that I make a vet appointment because Merlin was losing weight in hips and back legs. Plus, I had a dream about him being very loving and desiring to spend time with me. I also had six more dreams before his departure.
Before taking Merlin to the vet, she asked me to give him pills that calmed him down, which I hated giving him. According to the blood test, he had low blood counts, yet everything else was okay. With medications, vitamin B, and instructions to give iron rich food, I went home. For the follow-up visit, I managed to get more of the calming pill into him. He was actually pretty good and they fed him kitten food, while the vet tried to take another blood sample three times. She wasn’t able to, maybe because his blood was thick?
Sure, the vet could have put him under with anesthesia and taken a bone marrow sample to see if it was bone cancer. However, one of my father’s cat died while being under anesthesia. More importantly, I didn’t want his last days to be filled with trips to the vet, medicines, and medical procedures. Rather, I wanted him to enjoy the rest of his life at home. I intuitively knew those were Merlin’s wishes also.
Merlin in the leaves prior to his death. Taking Care of Baby Boy, MerlinMerlin spent time with Chris and Rhiannon, his sibling rivalry (from another mother). Yet, it was his mommy that pampered him most. On nice days, we went outside two or three times a day from anywhere from a half hour to an hour each time. When it was windy, I did my best to block the wind. During bad weather, I would hold him while doing a tour of our house.
Since Merlin loved to be held, he would often request me to hold him. Or I would pick up instead, sometimes standing or sitting in front of the window in the sun. One day, I held him for an hour. During these times, I talked, kissed/petted him, channeled healing energy to relieve the pain, or just enjoyed the moment.
The last couple of weeks he hung out in my office on my desk or file cabinet that had a soft flannel pillow case to lay on and dish towel for his food and water. His litter box was also there. He was such a trooper, being able to walk and eat even on his last day.
Sadly, I wasn’t with him when he took his last breath. During the night, my baby boy, Merlin walked up the cat steps onto the file cabinet, across my desk, and jumped onto the pillow of the office chair. My hope is that he died peacefully in his sleep, which I prayed for beforehand.
Life without MerlinOn the day of Merlin’s death, I felt a gigantic loving presence enveloped me. It was so beautiful and has happened since. My grief is intense! There’s an emptiness without him. Nevertheless, I am also relieved that he is no longer in pain and free…
What a gift my baby boy, Merlin was! My life has been forever blessed by his presence. Great love is worth the pain of loss.
Final ThoughtsTo honor Merlin, I decided to create a deck for his memory. In the meantime, you can check out my first deck, Purrs for Humans, from the cats’ gurus, Merlin and Rhiannon.
*The deck I created is Merlin’s Purrfect Lenormand
