Fresh but not sparkling web site!

I've just finished a revamp (ahem) of my website, updating links and what not. You can now buy The Opposite of Life directly from me, as well as Fly By Night. This might be of interest to anyone outside Australia, since Oz bookstores can charge up to $40 for courier delivery and I only charge the Australia Post parcel rate.

And I'll sign it for you, even!

For anyone interested, I'm runniing another competition on my Facebook page - win a Charlaine Harris book or a Buffy graphic novel by telling...

Vega departs

The Vega radio station is no more. I tried listening to it when it was launched, since it was meant to be aimed at my demographic and age group.

We listened every morning for a week. Nothing else had ever made me feel so middle aged in all my life. We switched back to JJJ shortly after and, with occasional forays into Joy and MixFM and sometimes Vega when the JJJ reception is too bad, I've been with JJJ ever since.

Looks like a lot of other people might have felt the same way.

Got a short vampire story looking for a publisher?

The press that bought The Truth About Brains for its zombie anthology is now looking for short vampire stories for a new book. Check out the guidelines and give it a whirl!

BTW, my zombie story will be published in Volume 2 of the zombie anthology series.

Après moi le deluge, apparently

This is the year that, for my birthday, global warming tried to wash Melbourne off the map. It's such a den of iniquity I guess. As soon as Tim has finished sending photos to The Age we're going to try to get to CH2 anyway.

You know it's true

My favourite conversation today;

Me: I can't work out if Adrian Lester is a good actor or not. I think I get distracted by the fact that hrs pretty and has a lovely voice and moves so beautifully that i can't remember if he was good.

Tim: He's the black John Barrowman.

Me: (falls over laughing)

Progress on Walking Shadows

I still don't know if it will end up with that title, but I suck at titles anyway. However, the good news is that I heard from my editor this morning, and spoke to my publisher at about lunch time, and they both like the new book. There are already comments on plot tweaking that may have to be done, but I'll wait until they've got all their reader feedback to send me before I start looking at that.

All of which means the process of getting Walking Shadows ready for publication will soon begin....

So. Fall Out Boy plushies

I kind of ended up ordering two sets of them because ... well it only cost a tiny bit more for the postage. I'm selling the second set individually on ebay now, if you know anyone who's interested.

And as a bonus, there's tentacle sex

Tansy Rayner Roberts is giving away a copy of her novella Siren Beat (combined with Road Kill by Robert Shearman) over at Good Reads. It's a terrific little horror/fantasy story, set in Hobart, with a wonderful heroine and some cool ideas. Just log into GoodReads and click the button to be in the running, or if you're impatient for good writing, you can buy it directly from Twelfth Planet Press. Or you can get it as an eBook from Smashwords.

Support good Australian authors, and have some...

Pinpricks for deflating the ego

Continuum was fun, and a lot of people came up to me to say they'd enjoyed my books. Neat-o. But I've just contacted a Perth bookstore to tell them I'm coming for Swancon and suggested they might get a couple of my books in for the dealers room as I'll be talking it up and... they've never heard of me. And they want a review copy to check it out before ordering it in from Peribo, as they don't normally deal with that distributor.

So. Fame? Not so much.

Cons, apps, Aerohaveno and prizes!

If anyone has downloaded TIm's Melbourne Historical app, it would be cool if you could drop into the app store and leave a review of it. It won't appear as having a star review or get higher on the rankings until it's had 5 reviews, and it's got 2 so far.

The second half of my Hobart blog is now also live on the Aerohaveno site if you want to hear me wax lyrical and freedom, independence, being tech free and learning to read proper books in the bath.

Continuum 6 was terrific fun, and I talked a...
