More shameless self promotion

I found out I could create an author page on Amazon.com as my two old fantasy novels, Witch Honour and Witch Faith, are still listed there. So I did that, and have been importing a few writing entries I did on this blog to give folks something to read.

If you're curious and want to check it out (or if you're a writer with things on Amazon.com yourself) you visit Narrelle M Harris at Amazon.com.

Plot bunnies

Plot bunnies, like dust bunnies, gather in dark places and accumulate bulk. If you don't vacuum regularly, you end up with monster, conflicting plot bunnies and have no idea what to do with them all.

Which is just another way of saying that I'm thinking about book three of the Gary and Lissa vampire series, despite the fact I haven't had any feedback from my editor/publisher on book 2 yet. And that I currently have four or five conflicting ideas and I don't know which ones I'm going to pin dow...

Hope requires willpower to become effective action

I don't usually post memes about worthy causes. Too often I feel they fail to do something useful for the cause involved. I prefer to marry awareness-raising with a call to action of some kind.

So. Here's my call to action.

Today, Tim and I donated $100 to Oxfam's Haiti Earthquake relief fund.

If you would like to make a difference, I urge you to donate whatever you can, however small, to the emergency relief charity of your choice, and *then* urge others on your flist to do the same.  If you ca...

A very satisfactory lunch hour

I met [info:] sharpest_rose   for lunch today. I was late (nothing new there) but we had delicious vegetarian lunch stuffs at Gopal's, then wandered around to look at jewellery and shoes and magazines. And we agreed that mothers are sometimes very odd. Lunch, browsing, company - all extremely satisfactory.

Also, [info:] sharpest_rose   was wearing a particularly nice dress which suited her really well, with her hair up in a band, so I could look at loveliness for the whole time too. :)

Old fashioned collectors

Does anybody out there collect stamps, or know someone who does? I get the occasional bit of snail mail, some from overseas, and always think it's a shame to throw out the envelope. It seems such a retro pursuit these days, I don't know if anyone still bothers.

Anyway, if you'd care for the occasional donation of used stamps for collection, let me know and I'll send them along.

I didn't know it required Special Skills

I'm so embarrassed. Today I had to get someone at work to decipher the Soundwave timetable for me. Once she explained it made sense, but to start with I was all "Why are MyChem on at 7.45 in the morning?? They are a ROCK BAND, that's when they're supposed to be getting to bed!! And when does the damned thing start? And why is time going backwards????"

It's my first ever music festival, okay?

And FWIW, what the hell is wrong with listing thing chronologically from the start time to the finish...

In a flash

The City of Melbourne held a Flash Mob dance last week. I understand the criticisms that have been laid against it, particularly since it didn't turn out to be that spontaneous, what with the media release and all - but really, being in Bourke Street Mall and watching it was fun. Watching the people who didn't know it was going to happen was fun. It may have been flawed as a Flash Mob event, but I think it was still entertaining.  I do like that the council one wasn't even about selling...

Can I stop feeling anxious now? Plz?

My publisher phoned me today to say the editor was already up to chapter 10 on the first read and really enjoying it, and feels that so far I've addressed all the issues that were raised re the first version of the book. We talked about the fact that this didn't mean there wouldn't be heaps of notes and edits :) It was reassuring, though.
