Blackpool Rocks
We've just finished watching the bizarre and brilliant 2004 miniseries, Blackpool. I highly recommend this not-quite-musical series if you haven't already seen it. Besides featuring David Tennant, it has one of the most amazing character transitions I've ever watched.
Outside commentary on the actual show, however, two things have been noted in our household:
As a long term Dr Who Fan, Tim feels very strongly that whenever an actor becomes The Doctor, all their work in future and retroactively mu

What earthquake?
I did not notice the earthquake on Friday night. I was out having birthday dinners, mmmmm, tho that should be no excuse.
Reminds me of when we were living in Egypt. We were getting a taxi home to the suburb where we lived from central Cairo, and the taxi driver got out, kicked all the tyres, asked us someting, but in Arabic so we had no clue, got back in and drove off. Ten minutes later, another passenger got it (they do that in Cairo) who spoke English and he explained we'd just been in an earth

Band hilarity in the workplace
I just got an email from the FOB mailing list stating that "Messrs Wentz, Stump, Trohman and Hurley" wish me happy birthday. Which is nice.
But srsly, the photo - they all look so depressed and 'meh' at having to send me any kind of greeting, and are clearly wishing I would die and leave them alone.
Now, those old pictures of the lads in pastel morning suits with lacey cuffs and stuff, bursting from a cake, *that* would have been a birthday greeting to use.
But on the plus side, it made me laugh

Neill before me!
I have just learned that Sam Neill will be playing a 'vampire mogul' in an upcoming film called 'Daybreaker'. It sounds kind of schlocky, which I love, but the casting of Ethan Hawke and Willem Dafoe in lead roles indicates it might be... well... classy kind of schlock.
A number of Aussies are in the cast, including Claudia Karvan and Vince Colosimo.
My head is trying to get around classy Aussie-infused vampire schlock, and can't.
On a related topic, I found FreakEgg on Twitter, who has lovely arts

Another song for Gary's vampire collection
Besides reviews of The Watchmen film, the Vine website previews music.
The Devoted's new album is on there, and they have a song called Baby, You're a Vampire. (look down the page on the right).

Exactly how good is that?
This link to the rest of this review is not currently working, but the opening paragraph:
"The Watchmen is so good it's like having a whirlwind romance with a smoking hot woman who invites her equally hot step-sister to join you all in the Jacuzzi."
made me wonder what the reviewer would write if he wanted to include women readers in a description of how good it is.
EDIT: Here is the actual review from The Vine

And it made me laugh an immoderate amount.

Kick drum beating in my chest again
I've been meaning for a while to post about some new music I've discovered.
Rediscovering my love of music led me to reactivate my MySpace account, because I believe that's where the kids are at, or something. Anyway, I've friended some bands I like, so that means other band friend me in the hope that I will not shun them.
Generally, I listen to the stuff on their MySpace page before accepting the friend request, based on whether or not I like their stuff.
So, if you're interested, here are some ba

The awesomeness that is Jess
My niece Jess is visiting, regaling me with tales of Soundwave festivals and travels to Sydney for weddings and such. We started talking about the Supre t-shirt that read 'I Heart Edward'. Then she said 'You should write an Edward vs Gary thing', to which I replied 'But they'd just look awkwardly at each other and then Gary would say 'um. so. do you want to play chess?' and then they'd play chess.
And Jess laughed and said 'Yeah, that'd be awesome.'
And yes, it would.

The awesomeness that is Audrey
So,
_audrey drew this for
ix_tab because both those gals are at the pinnacle of sparkliness.
And it reminded me that I've been meaning to post this:
It's a picture of Gary looking all long-suffering while he is being mauled by Lissa's dog, Oscar. It's a scene from the new book. I begged Audz to draw it for me and because she's made of wondeful she did.
Why, yes, I am very fond of our Audz, since you ask.
