Phillip Island - highlights!
Tim and I went to Phillip Island at the end of March - Tim for research purposes, me to keep him company.
I'd never been to Phillip Island before, and was unaware of its reputation as a cheap-and-cheerful family beach holiday destination. I found it fairly family friendly, but with a great mix of the cheap seaside holiday as well as stuff for couples. For dedicated city-dwellers like us, it was also wonderful to find some great restaurants and even some decent coffee!!

Things that amused me
There's only one more week of the comedy festival to go. Here's a list of shows that amused me, which is sometimes harder than you'd think at a comedy festival:
Mark Trenwith - Be My Friend at Club F4 on Little Collins St. A bright, personable show about the quest for friendship. Reminded me a little of Lawrence Leung in content, of David Tennant in looks.
Ben Russell and Jason Chatfield are Manface at the Tuxedo Cat, Nicholas Building, CBD - like Tripod and Axis of Awesome before them, good, fun,

Amanda Palmer
Everyone I know on LJ has been praising Amanda Palmer for forever, so today I stopped by Polyster Records in Flinders Lane to pick up 'Who Killed Amanda Palmer'. You know how you've all been saying she's bloody brilliant? I ought to have listened to you (and Neil Gaiman) sooner.
Though on the plus side, my purchase today has 20% of the profit going to cancer research, so me, Polyster and Amanda are doing our bit. They also gave me a discount voucher for next time - so Dresden Dolls are on the lis

It's all very exciting, except for one major flaw
I received my copy of 'Fly By Night' translated into Croatian at last! (I first mentioned this possibility in October last year).
It's very exciting to be published in another language! To have the lovely little book in my hands, with it's rather cool cover! The Croatian title, Zrtva, means 'Sacrifice', the title of the second story. The first story, Fly By Night, has been called Povratak Kuci, which searches tell me means either 'Coming Home' or 'Back Home'.
The thrill, however, is blunted somewh

GaryView: More on Dexter
Lissa: So what was your favourite bit of Season Two of Dexter?
Gary: Angel's shirts.
Lissa: That's it?
Gary: I like his shirts.
Lissa: This is because Angel Battista, like you, prefers to dress like a tropical bird.
Gary: Don't you like my shirts?
Lissa: I love them. I can always find you in a crowd.
Gary: I'd have thought you'd spot me anyway. And I'm hardly ever in crowds.
Lissa: I like your shirts fine, Gary. I can't really picture you in a black leather trenchcoat.
Gary: <blinks> I don't own one anyw

Dreamwidth migration
Seems like half my flist is migrating Dreamwards. I don't seem to have time to update LJ regularly, let along pack up and move, so you'll continue to find me here, when I'm posting.
I'm still intending to write my Top Ten Things To See and Do On Phillip Island, but I'm too busy trying to finish the first draft of 'Walking Shadows', which (according to my details plot synopsis) only has four and a bit chapters to go.
And a heads-up, it looks like the first chapter of the new book will be published

GaryView: Best vampire show on TV right now
Lissa: So what's the best vampire show on TV at the moment?
Gary: Dexter.
Lissa: ?? Dexter's not a vampire.
Gary: He never seems to sleep, he's obsessed with blood, he kills people. I'd bet you my house he's based on a real vampire.
Lissa: What, a vampire with a code?
Gary: It happens sometimes.
LIssa: What about True Blood?
Gary: I haven't seen it. I can't afford pay TV.
Lissa: You could download it off bitTorrent.
Gary: Can I have that again in English?
Lissa: I'll come and set it up for you when I'm r

GaryView: Time Ninjas and Eric
I went to see two more shows on Friday night. I loved Lawrence Leung and Andrew McClelland in Time Ninjas. Sweet funny geekboys, with Erno Rubik fixations. And McClelland has a surprisingly lovely singing voice! Eric was also a gem! Eric has finished, but there's still time for the Time Ninjas - go see them at Trades Hall!
And now - Friday night through the GaryView:
Lissa: Which show did you like best?
Gary: Why did you take me to Time Ninjas? There weren't any vampires in that one.
Lissa: It's not

Vampire Teeth at Highlander
It takes a certain amount of professional chutzpah to go on with the show when the technology on which half your show is based goes belly up and refuses to talk. That's what happened to Cath Styles last night, when her laptop refused to have anything to do with either of the data projectors in her venue. At one point, at least six would-be technicians were gathered around the hardware, shaking their heads sadly and saying the patient had little or no hope of recovery.
Finally, a little late, Cath
