Can I haz 16 Candles clip?

[info:] sharpest_rose posted recently referencing the 16 Candles video, which painfully reminds me that I do not have a copy on my iPod. It's not for sale on iTunes. It's on my **** DVD of course, but I don't carry that with me at all time, and even if I did, I'd have to carry a portable DVD player as well, and that just does not fit in with my worldview.

Folks, do you know where I can find an iPod friendly download of this video? It is deeply relevant to my interests

new icons!

I've been frustrated by the lack of icons at my disposal. Naturally, now I have a full time paying job, among the first things I've done is buy some extra icons for LJ!  YAY!

This new one comes courtesy of [info:] jillicons  - they have a lot of marvellous pics and I've liberated quite a few. I've made a few of my own too, and they will generally be the ones that don't look as crisp and clean, because I only have Microsoft Photo Editor to resize them in and they tend to lose quality. Still. Pretty icons.

I feel the earth move under my feet

I thought I was just having a moment at work, thinking about how awesome Watchmen is, but no, we had a real earthquake. At least I felt this one, unlike the one from 6 March. If we have another one, will we fall into the bay?

Guest of Honour at Continuum 5

It's official - I am one of the guests at the upcoming August 2009 Continuum 5 science fiction convention!

The headline act on the guest front is Chelsea Quinn Yarbro but I hope to be an able support. :-)

The con's theme this year is Steampunk, which should be fun, though now I have to think about what on earth I'm going to wear to the masked ball. Eeek. Is there anyone out there with costume nous who can help me with an idea for that??

The Happiness Factory #3

All kinds of material about Coca-Cola's new ad campaign and song has been released. This section, the Story of Happiness Factory, includes snippets of interviews with Brendan Urie, Patrick Stump and other artists.

it's cute, especially when everyone goes all geek about the ad animation. Patrick goes music geek about working with Janelle Monae. The Coke folks go all geek about Coke, which I find less cute.

I'm perfectly happy for musicians I admire to get involved in ad campaigns. It's a pretty goo

That's not a coffee, *this* is a coffee

Tim took me to +39 for breakfast this morning. +39 (named after the telephone code for Italy) occupies the site formerly known as 'Knife Fork Bottle and Cork" (named after lyrics from the song 'Cocaine' by 'The Cruel Sea').

'Knife Fork' is where I held the launch for "The Opposite of Life" and was run by our friends Jacques and Monique, so I have a sentimental attachment to the old place. +39 is rapidly becoming a new favourite, though. It's classy and offers good modern Italian pizza and pasta d

Honourable Mention

The Claws of Native Ghosts" by Lee Battersby is the winner of the 2008 Australian Shadows Awards, as judged by the Australian Horror Writer's Association. Congrats to Lee Battersby!

Nicely for me, although not short-listed, two of the three judges gave "The Opposite of Life" an honourable mention! Brett McBean said it was a 'solid, enjoyable novel' and Shane Jiraiya Cummings said "it was encouraging to read some fine home-grown novels" when talking about the book and Keri Arthur's latest, "Darkes
