Vegan yummities.

This 'raw food' recipe is best prepared with a high powered blender, but I did it with a little one in batches. It's great for vegetarians and vegans, unless they have a nut allergy or loathe dates. I got the recipe from a guy I work with, and I think he got it at a raw food seminar. I served it to guests on the weekend and at work the following day and everyone nommed it up.

Raw Brownies

Ingredients:
1 cup walnut halves
1 cup chopped dates (pref medjool dates or other very soft dates)
2 heaped ta...

Fall Out Boy is (un)dead - Long live Fall Out Boy!

More of me mucking about with this vampire transformer app on the iPhone. Now I have a full undead band!

Some of 'em look more Zombie than Vamp. Oh, I make myself LOL.

Vampire Transformations

I read on vampirecafe about a new iPhone application that can turn ordinary folks into hideous creatures of the night. So of course I went straight to iTunes and paid to download the sucker. It took a while to work out how to manipulate the images, and I'm still not very good at it, but I've been amusing myself. My brother Bryce looks suitably hideous:

but Monsieur Patrick Stump has transformed into a relatively pretty minion of satan.

I amuse myself at any rate.

Perhaps I expect too much.

I am battling a vague sense of disappointment that the actor who plays Artie in Glee is not, in real life, wheelchair-bound. I guess I thought it would be kind of neat if they had cast a person with a disability in the role. I don't know... is this kind of the modern version of white actors putting on dark makeup and pretending to be Chinese/Indian?

Either way, I still think Kevin McHale has the best voice among the guys on the show. Turns out that he is a good dancer too. Here's some of the i...

The Outland Institute today

Today on the Outland Institute!

John and I recommend which books the discerning listener should be gifting to their loved ones this year. Glenn looks at the Aussie films of 2009, we have an exclusive interview with comedian Judith Lucy about the meaning of "success", and our special Crimes Against Pop presenter is an ex-soap star who was once in a band. I don't want to jinx that, but I can tell you if he was testing his microphone he might say "Check, 1, 2". He'll be bringing in a mighty organ...

Happy Thanksgiving, US peeps!

Happy Thanksgiving to all my friends living in the US of A!

And for the rest of us - have a happy day too. In solidarity with our American cousins, let's spend a moment today to be thankful for something too.

Today I'm thankful for my big, noisy family, for our ability to show unrestrained affection to one another, for spending some time together to celebrate Richard's birthday, and for getting to spend more time with Jess and Callan.

Canberra, you don't suck so much after all!!

I'm not fond of Canberra as a city. Many people I love live there, but I have never regretted leaving that town and always feel faintly depressed when I return.

But today, I'm seriously in love with the ACT Government due to this headline - ACT win fight on gay wedding laws

I see now that I need to get an icon for when I want to be wildly celebratory! Or at least a pic of Adam Lambert. In the meantime, I will use virtual tarts to indicate how absolutely fucking stoked I am about these laws.

COME...

Who wants to see The Hunger with me?

The Rooftop Cinema (on the roof of Curtin House, Swanston St Melbourne) is having a whole week of vampire films in December! It starts with Twilight on 8 December and follows with The Lost Boys, Let the Right One In, Interview with the Vampire and The Hunger.

Alas I will be interstate or at other events for most of this run, but I *will* be going to The Hunger on Sunday 13th December. It's actually the only one of the films on that week that I haven't seen, so it works out well.

If any of you g...

They *sparkle*!!

This week's episode of Wait, Wait... Don't Tell Me features amusing references to New Moon. The first section, Who's Carl This Time, talks about the sparkly vampires at around the 6.50 minute mark. It's very funny.

SOS to my flist!

I set my DVD recorder for Castle before we went to Canberra. I didn't know that Channel 7 had decided to show a double episode. So I got the first ep about the rock star, but only 15 minutes of the Halloween episodes. I AM FULL OF WOE!!

Did anyone out there record it who could burn it onto DVD for me to watch, or is there anyone who can download it to a memory stick for me? I WANT TO SEE CASTLE HUNTING VAMPIRE KILLERS. And I tried to record it and commercial tv failed me AGAIN!!
