Slightly surprising Sunday reading
Owen Richardson's review of 'The Life and Opinions of Maf the Dog and of His Friend Marilyn Monroe' references slashfic. As in 'it's a bit like slash fiction, with pathos replacing sex'.
I'm fascinated that someone in the mainstream a) knows about slashfic and b) expects his audience to understand the reference.
Fascinated and frankly charmed.

Awake enough to make an update
I have been failing utterly to update this week, because I kept falling asleep. And when I was awake I wasn't properly awake. Damn this jetlag business. But I'm feeling back in the swing, I've done a GaryView, and soon I will get to work on some projects and job hunting!
If you feel you don't know enough about my reading preferences, you can pop on over to Book Tweeps where Paula Grunseit interviewed me about such things.
Of course, it doesn't cover all my reading preferences. I'm delighted to ...

GaryView: From Dusk Till Dawn
Lissa: Wow. That was... bizarre. And grotesque. And... slightly comforting.
Gary: Sometimes, you're very strange, Lissa.
Lissa: I mean, real vampires aren't like that - ravenous hordes hiding in bars turning into bats and snakes and weird stuff.
Gary: True. Getting a bunch of vampires to work together like that would be... what was that thing you said? Like herding cats.
Lissa: It was weird too, how the bad guys sort of become the good guys when something badder shows up.
Gary: That happens a lot...

Being Human series 1
The special features on the first disk of this series has the three leads filming stuff on a handicam, mercifully edited to be quite watchable. For those who subscribe to the idea that Mitchell and George are secret sweeties, there is plenty of hilarious Aidan/Russell interaction. Including the two of them dancing together.
Guys, guys, guys, it used to be so much harder to slash tv shows, back in the day. You young 'uns don't know how easy you got it. These days they just give it all to us on...

Is Louisa Alcott spinning in her grave?
I read LIttle Women for the first time ever while i was travelling. I remarked to sharpest_rose (in a postcard) that I would be amused to read about them as vampires. And what do I see today? Why, ladies and gentlemen, I see this.
Ask, and the internet provides. Even though it patently shouldn't.
By the way, John and Chris gave me a belated birthday present yesterday - the Pop-Up Dracula!! BRB, rolling around on floor laughing at the giant pop up 3D cemetary!!

Guest blog
I've done a guest blog on Tim's site - http://www.aerohaveno.com about a cruise Celia and I took on the Danube yesterday.
Btw if you ever find yourself in Budapest contact http://europenethotels.com and ask about the apartments on Kiraly Utca - this is a lovely place! I'd stay here again for sure!

It's a time dilation effect. Or a whirly thing alert.
My last post was ten days ago. Or maybe ten months ago. From where I'm sitting the timing feels a little confusing. I posted about a wall of love locks in the sunny, charming town of Pecs. Since then we have spent three days in Szeged (visiting a paprika and salami museum but mostly getting rained on); three days in Eger (visiting the Valley of Beautiful Women and getting quite drunk on excellent Hungarian wine, and only getting rained on a little) and now four days in Budapest, with almost n...

Locked in love in Hungary
We got the train from Slovenia across the border to Hungary on the 9th May. I'm pretty sure that was about four weeks ago, but Tim assures me that it was only five days ago. I don't believe it for a minute.
Our first port of call was a tiny station called Ukk, pronounced Ook, which inevitably reminded me of the LIbrarian at the Unseen University. Nothing much happened except we met a British couple who were also on their way to Keszthely (pron Kest-hay) on the shores of Lake Balaton and had a ...

GaryView: The Wolf House Book 1 - Origins and Overtures by Mary Borsellino
Gary: Did you finish it? What did you think?
Lissa: I finished it today, and yes I liked it so stop looking so... whatever it is you’re looking like. You’re not usually this eager for my opinion.
Gary: [less eager:] I always like to know what you think, and I thought you might like this one. I...
Lissa: [pokes his shoulder:] I’m teasing, doofus. Sorry. I do really like it. The teenagers in it remind me a little of me, back in the day, and some of my friends back then. All smart arse, angry outsid...
