No More Villains or Victims

What if I could contribute to a world that worked for everyone and everything in it, without creating villains or victims? What if everything I want to be different in the world has a single source – consciousness? And what if the only consciousness I can work effectively with is my own? Would I have the courage to go within and do the needed work, to catch the vision? Would you? Gandhi did it. So did the rabbi Jesus and MLK. Most of us see ourselves as invisible and powerless. Not true. The same power Gandhi, Jesus and MLK used is available within us, waiting for us to claim and use. Perhaps that’s what Jesus, the wonderful way-shower, not the great exception, meant when he said, “greater things than this shall you do also.”

Duality and Forgiveness, Part 2 – Atheists Welcome!

Deborah continued: “Each time I forgive, I’m realizing the power we call ‘God’ is always with me and if it’s always with me, it has to be always with you, too. You did not make this power any more than I did. When you forgive me and I you, we are in touch with this power and are restored to sanity, realizing that anger and vengeance are mistakes, arising from our mistaken belief in that we are separate from God. When we forgive we’re saying, ‘thank God I’ve been wrong’ that there’s another way of knowing and being.


“To practice forgiveness, especially for ourselves, in every specific event, is to understand that the insanity is present in almost every thought. Try to catch yourself holding a grievance or insisting you’re right or insisting you want it now, that it’s ‘my way or the highway’. Consider that insisting you’re right, automatically makes some one or some thing else wrong.

“The whole competitive, ‘I’m #1’ and having ‘winners and losers’, reinforces the mistaken belief in separation and shows we’re choosing separation instead of wholeness. As long as we think we’re here, competition and separation are facts of life. We can’t avoid them. But we can, as we compete, hold grievances and reinforce guilt, blame and separation, try and catch ourselves doing so, not judge ourselves or feel guilty, nor take it too seriously, but forgive and in forgiving, know there’s an alternative, another way of knowing and to see it all differently.”

Memorial Day – The Gettysburg Address

The Gettysburg Address


Perhaps more relevant now, than then. For now we see that the hope Lincoln expressed has not materialized. The governement of which he spoke is slowly ceasing to be of the people and for the people and we seemed to have learned nothing of war as the so-called leadership of Lincoln’s own party demands more blood and treasure for nothing on the other side of the world. Ah well. Read it and weep.


 


Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent, a new nation, conceived in Liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal.


Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battle-field of that war. We have come to dedicate a portion of that field, as a final resting place for those who here gave their lives that that nation might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.


But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate — we can not consecrate — we can not hallow — this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced. It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us — that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion — that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain — that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom — and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

MINNEAPOLIS (The Borowitz Report) – Scientists have discovered a powerful new strain of fact-resistant humans who are threatening the ability of Earth to sustain life, a sobering new study reports.


The research, conducted by the University of Minnesota, identifies a virulent strain of humans who are virtually immune to any form of verifiable knowledge, leaving scientists at a loss as to how to combat them.

“These humans appear to have all the faculties necessary to receive and process information,” Davis Logsdon, one of the scientists who contributed to the study, said. “And yet, somehow, they have developed defenses that, for all intents and purposes, have rendered those faculties totally inactive.”


More worryingly, Logsdon said, “As facts have multiplied, their defenses against those facts have only grown more powerful.”


While scientists have no clear understanding of the mechanisms that prevent the fact-resistant humans from absorbing data, they theorize that the strain may have developed the ability to intercept and discard information en route from the auditory nerve to the brain. “The normal functions of human consciousness have been completely nullified,” Logsdon said.

While reaffirming the gloomy assessments of the study, Logsdon held out hope that the threat of fact-resistant humans could be mitigated in the future.


“Our research is very preliminary, but it’s possible that they will become more receptive to facts once they are in an environment without food, water, or oxygen,” he said.

The Lottery, Coincidence, Readiness and Motivation

“When the student is ready, the teacher (money, job, lover) will appear.” One can become ready because of external happenings, but I think inner readiness trumps external force and motivation. Externals have a place, of course, but readiness and gentle inner motivation make us aware and accepting of the benign coincidences and the connections between things already in and around us working for the good of all concerned. It’s a stretch, but perhaps this explains why so many lottery winners go broke; they just aren’t ready to win.
