Passover Is Personal – Atheists Welcome
You can understand the story as a metaphor for every person’s journey from slavery, struggle, duality and the ego to freedom, flow, oneness and the power we call ‘God’. Pharaoh represents the ego. The plagues, Golden Calf and forty years in the desert represent humanity’s struggle to be free of the ego. Our personal individual struggles often hourly, to release the ego’s version of life as dog-eat-dog, one or the other, fear, anger, blame and hate and allow them to be replaced by compassion, grace and openness. Though it seems unfair, given what he’d done and been through, Moses cannot enter the promised land because the ego cannot enter the promised land. Release the ego, you don’t have to do it alone. The power we call ‘God’ is within helping. Remember the parting of the Red Sea, the manna from heaven and the other miracles. Don’t fear the journey. Your soul knows the way.
PS: the story of Jesus can be understood in similar fashion.

Misunderstanding the Bible: Image and Likeness, Part Three – Atheists Welcome!
There is no other can mean you or this is the only one, the only one I want, the best, highest aspiration. It can also mean there is no other, nothing else, nothing foreign, nothing ‘other’, nothing not me or part of me.
If I (and you, and all humanity, even Republicans and terrorists) are created in the image and likeness of the power we call ‘God’ than there is no other. We are free. Love is total. No compromise. No exceptions. It is what it is. We are what we are. We need not pay God nor make sacrifice for the freedom, mercy, compassion and peace that is our birthright. We simply need to get our bloated nothingness out of the way.

Misunderstanding the Bible: Image and Likeness, Part Two – Atheists Welcome!
The change I want to make is not so much self-improvement, but rather Self discovery. It’s feeling and wanting my true image and likeness to become apparent. It’s there within me right now, waiting. I just have to want it and allow it. Self-improvement is good, but Self discovery is infinitely better, more fun, joyous and rewarding, not only for me but for everyone and everything including the planet!

Misunderstanding the Bible: Image and Likeness, Part One – Atheists Welcome!
I’ve been believing in the wrong image and likeness. Perhaps you have, too. The idea of the image and likeness of the power we call ‘God’, like most things in the Bible, is, because of the good book’s roots in duality, widely misunderstood. It’s not the physical image and likeness I’m to express, because the wonderful power we call ‘God’ has no physical image we can comprehend – that would be idolatry. It’s the spiritual and emotional image and likeness I’m to reflect – the compassion, sympathy, empathy, kindness, inclusiveness, peace and joy. Realizing this mistake is half the challenge. The other half is to get my bloated nothingness out of the way so my true image and likeness can shine thru.

Lack, Limitation and Surrender
I wish I could let go and let God, but I have bills to pay. Sound familiar? It’s precisely the kind of thinking I need to surrender and stop doing. I need to surrender lack and limitation, my need to control and make things happen and replace them with faith and trust in the power I call ‘God.’ After all, the sun comes up without me just as the tides rise and fall also without me. If it is done unto me as I believe and I believe more in lack and limitation and my own weakness, it’s no wonder I have bills to pay and not enough money to pay them. But if I surrender those negative beliefs, what then? I’m not giving up or giving in; rather I’m stepping aside and allowing mySelf to express. It’s amazing how well this kind of surrender works!

Emotions and Moods: Be The Sky
“Our emotions and moods are like the weather in two ways,” Devorah said. “First, the weather changes and second, it is beyond our control. So it is with our emotions. Whatever the weather – good or bad, this too, shall pass. So just get out of the rain when it’s raining. Don’t curse the weather. Don’t re-think your entire life. The rain will stop and the sun will return.” Devorah smiled. “But better yet is to think of yourself as the sky. If you’re the sky, it really doesn’t matter what the weather is. It will change according to the day and the season, and you’ll carry on, regardless.
“The sky doesn’t mind what weather is taking place inside it. Day or night, regardless of what the weather happens to be in this moment, as the sky we remain eternally vast, and the light of the sun continues to shine brightly within us even when it’s obscured by darkness or the clouds.” Devorah gratefully acknowledges Dr. Steve’s Coach, Michael Neil, for these most excellent ideas.

Forgiveness, Anger and Perversity
“It’s not that you have no fearful, mean, cruel, low, perverse, angry, hurtful, or blaming thoughts,” Devorah said, opening her arms to embrace the multitude. “It’s that you have none that you would keep, dwell upon, justify, make real or act upon. Many things occur that make such thoughts seem reasonable. Resist them not, cease struggling. Please, my good brothers and sisters,” Devorah smiled, lowering her arms, “refrain from judging, struggling or blaming yourself for such thoughts. Being aware of them is a great step forward! And when you are aware of such thoughts do not entertain them for very long but give them over to the spirit within, your true Self, the power we call ‘God’ and allow It to replace them with forgiveness, compassion, understanding and kindness. The relief you’ll feel is almost magical.”
