Wouldn’t It Be Great?
Wouldn’t it be great to feel guided, guarded, calm and protected more of the time? I think it would! To just show up and let the still small voice guide me? Yes! To want more than anything else to become an empty vessel devoid of ego, constantly in touch with the Answer? Yes! To appreciate everything that happens as an opportunity to move in this direction? Yes! To understand there’s no thing wrong and that everything, even the most seeming terrible things, are opportunities? Yes!
I’m working on not working, on being still, mindful and watching my ego use my cancer, Republicans, war, and a dozen other things to upset and drag me away. I know it’s a process and I want to be grateful for my progress, but the idea of just showing up and dealing with all the bumps, grinds and wonders calmly, graciously and gratefully, knowing I AM guided, guarded and protected is so desirable that I sometimes get impatient. But wouldn’t it just be great?

What If?
What if the reason we’re so involved with what’s outside us, is so we don’t have to look inside?
What if all the glittery shiny things, the wars, sicknesses, and feelings of victimization are simply distractions deliberately designed to keep us from hearing the still small voice within, as it praises and blesses us, each and everyone, for the spark of divinity and grace we posses, encouraging us to share that and judge not by appearances?
What if it’s all ego, the raucous shrieks of a thing built of separation, guilt and fear; a thing that knows it will cease to exist if we accept our gifts of goodness, grace and compassion?
What if giving the gifts is the only way we can have them for ourselves?
What if the oneness the mystics speak of is the need all humanity shares to learn to silence the ego’s raucous shrieks, accept our gifts and allow them to simply flow?
What if everyone of us, all 6 billion + people on the planet, actually are part of the strength, beauty, glory and creativity of the thing we call ‘God’ and can use it to make our unique contributions to a world that works for everyone and everything in it?
What would happen if we stopped blaming, accepted responsibility, stopped beating ourselves up, silenced the ego, even for a moment, and accepted our power?
What would happen? What if?

Is It Done Unto You As You Believe?
Yes! Not only rabbi Jesus’ advice, but most scientific research shows it is done unto us as we believe, not, as we want. So, are your wants and beliefs aligned? Not for me most of the time. For me, and perhaps for most of us, what we want is what we believe is possible. So to get what I want, I have to believe it’s possible. In other words, I have to change what I believe is possible before I get what I want. And, perversely, if I want something, I’m believing in its absence. I alone am responsible for changing my beliefs, not my parents, spouse, political party, only I alone can change my beliefs. And now’s the best time to do it; right now, no more excuses.

The Compass
Some say the age of competition and fear is waning; that there’s no need for hate and greed to rule. In the case of gay rights, perhaps that’s true. But you’d never know it from the Republican candidates for President, their billionaire supporters and ardent fans.
Still, no matter what politicians say, it’s everyone’s choice to be afraid. After all, what happened to the terrible Ebola scare, whipped to a frenzy by the usual suspects? Who gains from stoking our fears? Is it possible to stand in the midst of the storm of anger, fear, hate, greed, blame and anxiety and find a way to calm, peace, compassion, generosity and mutual respect – the alternative that’s managing the Ebola virus?
The anger and fear come when we feel lost. But we need not feel lost if we use our inner compass. Everyone has one, a core human imperative. A sense of grace, calm, peace, compassion, generosity and mutual respect. That’s your compass. You’ve felt it haven’t you, and used it to find your way? Let’s use it now and more often. Let’s let the age of competition and fear wane. At least in our own hearts and minds. It need not be this way. There is an alternative. Use your inner compass, please!

On A Need to Know Basis – Communication, Part Two
See, that’s the thing – choosing, consciously.
And it’s a never ending, minute to minute thing – ugh!
Connection can come only where it’s welcomed.
Getting our egos – our bloated nothingness – out of the way, welcomes and makes room for connection, even communion.
Denying or trying to pray away our bodies and physical reality is useless.
But we can change our purpose, what we use our bodies and physical reality for; how we see things and what they mean to us.
We can shift our purpose, intentions and goals from the ego’s specialness, grandiosity and separation, to awakening the benign wordless presence in ourselves and others.
That’s all, just a shift of purpose.
We don’t have to know how – what to say and do – the guidance will come as it’s needed.
It’s all moment to moment, on a need to know basis.

Communication: Form vs Content
If there were something more and greater in life, a benign power guiding, guarding and protecting us, how would it communicate with us? With the famous ‘still small voice,’ a flash of inspiration and innovation, a quiet sense of a presence and guidance? Or would it use a big booming masculine voice, a pillar of fire, a burning bush, a man on a cross? What about Buddhists, Hindus and atheists – how would it communicate with them? Wouldn’t such a benign loving power, Oneness joined as One, have to use the forms of communication we can understand?
The challenge is to know, despite the myriad forms of communication, there is but one message: we are spiritual beings having earthly experiences, and not to make the differences between forms significant. Organized religions tend to make the forms significant and downplay the message. Dogma (religious, political or economic), words, books, concepts and bodies do the same. Yet our benign inner guidance can use the myriad forms to return us to the formless, wordless presence – the something more and greater, that we are part of right now (you don’t have to wait ‘till you die), if we choose to let it.

Book Marketing
A group of published authors in the Miami area, members of the SFWA www.southfloridawritersassn.org, have set up a marketing co-op and are seeking a marketing professional to arrange presentations and book signings at venues around S. FL. Mini-book fairs, writing workshops and panel presentations at venues such as libraries, shopping malls, churches, synagogues, and book clubs are possibilities. Each author will contribute $100. to the marketer’s monthly fee. Seven authors are committed and more are likely. As more SFWA members join the co-op, the marketing effort will remain basically the same while the fee will increase. Please respond to: sliebowitz@aol.com for more info.
