Alignment
It’s no secret that people do in reality what they’ve seen themselves do in their minds. But it’s not only the mind-work that’s necessary. It’s also the emotional work to support it. When aligned, heart and mind enable complete fulfillment. When unaligned, partial fulfillment, feelings of lack, dis-ease, vague dissatisfaction and anger. Such feelings are my cue to look within, not without at my work, marriage, health or politics, but within, to my lack of alignment. Once aligned around a vision of a world that works for everyone and everything, I can look without and deal with my work, marriage, health or politics. Inside first.

Routines and Rituals
Do routines and rituals bring comfort even as they hold us in place and keep us from growing? Do they serve us or do we serve them? How much of my identity is me and how much my rituals and routines? What happens when I drive to work a different way, or shave the left side first or skip my morning prayers? Am I diminished or expanded? What would happen if I thought about Race or Politics differently? If I felt different about burgers and fries?
Could routines and rituals be the triumph of form over content? No doubt the rituals and routines in my habitual thoughts and actions bring comfort. But don’t they keep me small, narrow and confined, too? What creativity, innovation and unimagined joy might come if I used rituals and routines as a starting point, as a means of moving beyond them, to new rituals and routines and then beyond them?

The Continuum
A way of perceiving things
Not either/or,
But both/and.
Not two separate things,
But two extremes of a single thing.
Joy ——————- Sadness
Not either Joy or Sadness,
But both Joy and Sadness,
equally accessible, meaningful and worthwhile
With shades of each in between
Love——————-Hate
Certainty—————Doubt
Moving between ends on a continuum is easier and less traumatic than choosing either one or the other.
It’s movement, not choice,
Not, selecting one and rejecting the other
But simply movement between different shades of a single thing
Each with its own place, time and value.
Not, ‘you’re either for me or against me’.
But, sometimes you’re for me, sometimes against.

Presentations for Your Groups
Seeking a dynamic presentation? Interested in connecting Science and Spirit? Fascinated by the heroes of the Bible? Invite Steve Liebowitz, Ed.D, author of four books: three novels in The Covenant and The Scrolls series: Devorah, Saul and David, and one non fiction: The New Professionalism: Connecting Science and Spirit for an informal dynamic Q&A presentation.
Dr. Liebowitz’ presentations are as dynamic and exciting as the themes and characters he writes about. In Book One of The Covenant and The Scrolls series Dr. Steve explores the challenges faced by Devorah, the one and only female to be a Judge over ancient Israel, 3,500 years ago.
Book Two: Saul, First King, Dr. Liebowitz takes a fresh look at the life and times of King Saul and suggests an alternative to the traditional explanations for the first king’s actions.
In Book Three: David The Usurper, Steve offers a more human picture of Israel’s second king.
All the famous biblical characters come to life: Saul’s daughter, the warrior princes Michael, his son, Jonathan, David and Goliath, the Witch of Endor, the prophet Samuel, David and Bathsheba, David’s sons Absalom and Solomon.
Many readers have commented on the way the books helped them see and understand the striking parallels between the challenges faced by great leaders 3,000 years ago and those faced in our own time.
The New Professionalism: Connecting Science and Spirit shows the connection between so-called opposites – Science and Spirit, and how one can become healthier and more successful using both/and instead of either/or.
Please schedule Dr. Steve for an informal dynamic Q&A presentation, tying all four books together.

Columbus Day
Is there another way to celebrate Columbus? We know he didn’t really discover ‘America.’ We know he, a white supposedly ‘christian’ male, was a racist (as were all the people of his time) who set the pattern for slaughtering and enslaving native peoples, not for greed or lust for power (of course not), but to civilize them and bring them to Jesus.
Why do we ignore these things about Columbus? Is it because ignoring them in him justifies ignoring them in ourselves and what our ancestors did to Native Americans, Puerto Ricans and Philipinos as we brought them civilization and democracy in the name of American exceptionalism?
Compared to most places in the world, the United States is a fine place to live, even for Blacks and women. We’re making progress in somethings, but back sliding in others. Let’s celebrate this Columbus Day, by looking clearly and honestly not only at Columbus, but at how far we’ve come and still have to go.
