Not Only Afghanistan, Iraq and Libya But Ebola, Too
How, without knowing or even conceiving the totality, or even a fraction of the totality, of the context and consequences, are we to judge? Yet judge we must. But before we judge couldn’t we go within and ask to see the context and conditions more fully, not in a habitual, biased, narrow minded and fearful way, but in a fearless, compassionate and open way, one that allows us to perceive, understand and appreciate more?
How can we possibly become enlightened and hear the highest and best already within us, if we cling to grievances and slights real or imagined, give in to the seeming urgency, and constantly rush to condemnation and attack? Does judging in this way make error – our fear and paranoia – real? What are the motives of those who provoke and encourage us to judge this way? Are they seeking to bring out the highest and best? And what about those in the media who cover these people? What are their motives? And why do some believe the media and vote for these people, while others stay home and refuse to vote?
Instead of judging in our habitual ways based on fear, half-truths, hypocrisy and holier-than-thou, why not give ‘there but for the grace of God go I’ a try? How well have our habitual ways of judging worked for Libya, Iraq and Afghanistan? What happened to the Ebola epidemic that was going to sweep America? What became of the great economic collapse and socialist take-over?

Quantum Physics and The Metaphysical Umpires
Here’s an old joke reminiscent of Quantum Physic’s Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle. Could all three of these be the way we think? Which best describes the way the universe actually works?
Three umpires drinking, trying to one-up each other. The first says, “There’s ball and strikes and I just call ‘em as I see ‘em.” The second says, “There’s balls and strikes and I just call ‘em as they are.” The third says, “There’s ball and strikes and they ain’t nothin’ ‘till I call em.”

Christmas in March (Atheists Welcome!)
There’s much joy, power and wisdom in the Christmas story as metaphor, for believers and non-believers. Consider the infant. Why an infant? Because, among other things, an infant calls out for nurturing. Mindfulness, centering, kindness and compassion are how we nurture. The infant gives its gifts as we nurture it. Only an inkling, a glimmer, a moment of peace in the course of a busy day, as we nurture it, the infant matures into ever more meaningful experiences of peace, compassion and kindness (especially to ourselves). Take a moment now to nurture the infant and receive its gifts. Why wait ‘till December 25th?

Love and Romance – Beyond Belief
Is it possible that love is never missing? That it’s right here now? That we’re looking for love in all the wrong places; out there instead of in here; mistaking love for romance? Probably. Romance has its place, but it’s not love. Is love a thing someone or something else brings to make you complete? What if love is the very essence of who we are and instead of searching for it, we just allow it to flow and share it? Will we have less love if we do that, or more love? Is love a static limited thing that we only have so much of and when we give it away, it’s gone? Isn’t this what most of us believe, and when you think about it isn’t this beyond belief?

Beyond Belief
What’s beyond belief for you? Is it something strange, impossible, something that just can’t be but is? Then what? Do you shake your head, mutter some expletive and go on? And, over the next few hours, do you wonder and reflect on what you believe now and what you really believe?
Faith is what’s beyond belief. What do you have faith in, what do you really believe? That the sun will come up tomorrow (can you hear Annie singing it?); that gravity will hold you on earth; that it’s a dog eat dog world; that you are a rotten nasty person whose attempts to do good are doomed to failure; that real success, true love, joy and happiness are illusions just beyond reach?
What if the strange, impossible, things that just can’t be but are, are opportunities to re-examine what you really believe and if that’s not working, change what you believe and have faith in?

Desire
It’s not desire’s fault, it’s our attachment to the outcome that causes suffering. Let go of how you want it to show up and let desire lead you from happiness to joy.
