Keeping Score
Have you won yet? Don’t we just love keeping score – football, basketball, etc? Sports are so much ‘cleaner’ and easier to score than politics, foreign affairs or figuring out guilt or innocence on a jury. That’s why people are into sports and ignore the other stuff. Clarity. We want to know where we and our team stand.
So, have you won yet? How will you know? In real life there’s no NBA or NFL. If you’re not #1 have you lost? And #1 at what – kindness, compassion, understanding, joy? Do you have to wait ‘till you die to get the final score and see if you end up in heaven or hell? Don’t we create our heavens and hells here and now, and haven’t too many of us condemned ourselves and others to hell with only moments of kindness, compassion, understanding, and joy? Aren’t there other, better ways to keep score?

Heaven and Hell
What if heaven can be chosen as easily as hell?
What if, regardless of appearances or circumstances, the one neutral power in and through me and you – everyone and everything, is always working and our choices give it shape and form in our experience?
What if the thoughts and feelings we hold in our hearts and minds are mental/emotional equivalents molding and shaping the power, much like a jello mold shapes jello?
What if? Can I be more mindful of my thoughts and feelings and when I find myself in hell, shift and choose heaven?
Could it actually work that way? I think it does, but it takes practice – constant, moment-to-moment awareness, to shift from hell to heaven.

Looking the gift horse in the mouth
Have you had the kind of day when you get out of bed feeling fine, almost rarin’ to go? And the coffee tastes better than usual. The car starts right up and the traffic’s not so bad. You find a good parking space. Your co-workers are pleasant and your projects are on schedule. Whoa! What’s happening? Do you say to yourself, OMG! I just can’t stand it? And then poof! Like Cinderella’s carriage returning to the pumpkin, things start fraying around the edges, people don’t return calls, the software acts up. Why can’t we stand it? Why is it so hard to accept our good, especially when it comes so effortlessly and full of grace? Why does what Emerson called ‘our bloated nothingness’ get in the way of the divine circuits?

Donald and Daisy Duck
This one took me a minute to get. So give it a moment.
Donald Duck and Daisy Duck were spending the night together in a hotel room and Donald wanted to have sex with Daisy. The first thing Daisy asked was, “Do you have a condom?”
Donald frowned and said, “No.” Daisy told Donald that if he didn’t get a condom, they could not have sex.
“Maybe they sell them at the front desk.” she suggested.
So Donald went down to the lobby and asked the hotel clerk if they had condoms.
“Yes, we do.” the clerk said and pulled a box out from under the counter and gave it to Donald. The clerk asked, “Would you like me to put them on your bill?”
“Thit No!” Donald quacked, “I’d thuffocate!”

Is that all there is? (Check out the song by Peggy Lee)
Have you wanted something, thought about it, perhaps obsessed about it, then, when you got it, there was kind of a let down? It might have been a new car, a sexual experience, a new client, a concert or movie. Could it be that the let down comes because it’s the feeling itself we really want – what we imagined it would be like to have the object or experience, not the thing itself; that the thing itself could never be as good as the feeling? So? Does that mean don’t want things or do things? Of course not! It means that the source of the desire, joy and motivation is in you, not the thing you seek outside yourself. What you and I really seek with the new car is the new car feeling – feelings of pride, accomplishment, success. And the source of those feelings is…? What if the source is within us too, and could be accessed anytime, right now, without the car, the sex or concert…? Would you learn how to access it?

You can’t find the light by analyzing the darkness
Have you ever looked for something and it was right there all the time? You went to take a leak, get a glass of water, or did something to shift your consciousness then, when you returned to the search you found it? So it is with finding the light. You never lost it. It’s right here all the time, you just have to let go of the darkness before you can feel it.
