Duality and Forgiveness, Part 2 – Atheists Welcome!
Deborah continued: “Each time I forgive, I’m realizing the power we call ‘God’ is always with me and if it’s always with me, it has to be always with you, too. You did not make this power any more than I did. When you forgive me and I you, we are in touch with this power and are restored to sanity, realizing that anger and vengeance are mistakes, arising from our mistaken belief in that we are separate from God. When we forgive we’re saying, ‘thank God I’ve been wrong’ that there’s another way of knowing and being.
“To practice forgiveness, especially for ourselves, in every specific event, is to understand that the insanity is present in almost every thought. Try to catch yourself holding a grievance or insisting you’re right or insisting you want it now, that it’s ‘my way or the highway’. Consider that insisting you’re right, automatically makes some one or some thing else wrong.
“The whole competitive, ‘I’m #1’ and having ‘winners and losers’, reinforces the mistaken belief in separation and shows we’re choosing separation instead of wholeness. As long as we think we’re here, competition and separation are facts of life. We can’t avoid them. But we can, as we compete, hold grievances and reinforce guilt, blame and separation, try and catch ourselves doing so, not judge ourselves or feel guilty, nor take it too seriously, but forgive and in forgiving, know there’s an alternative, another way of knowing and to see it all differently.”
