$12K/Month 1-Woman San Francisco Tourist Website

The website is SFTourismTips by Jill Loeffler 
Jill started the site way back in 2009. I added it to my list of affiliate marketing website examples back in 2019, when the site was earning $5000/month.
A few days ago Jill told me via email…
It’s now at around $12k a month with about 60% Mediavine and 40% affiliates.
Jill went through a rough time with the site a few years back 
She shared in a recent interview…
I escaped being hit by any [Google Search] algorithm changes until the November 2019 update. My site was hit, and I lost about 30% of my traffic. Two months later, my biggest affiliate decided to change their program in a way that cut our income by another 30%.
And then…the pandemic hit, and overnight San Francisco closed its doors to all visitors on March 15, 2020. We lost all but about 10% of our traffic and all of our affiliate income. This was devastating, and I had no idea what we would do to make it through this tough time.
A few things she did to get back on track…
Completely revised and updated all pages that didn’t rank wellCreated (and regularly updated) content about things to do in SF during the pandemicStarted a Facebook page to complement the websiteAdded display ads (Mediavine)Then…
the June 2021 update hit, and two days later, California opened back up. Our traffic soared, and we were back in business. Not only that, we were in better shape than before the pandemic hit.
We doubled traffic and revenue even though things were not 100% open.
Love that resilience 
Jill’s income from the site dropped from $78K in 2019 to only $10K in 2020. I think a lot of people in that situation would have been tempted to give up on the site.
But Jill faced the adversity head on and emerged from it as a much stronger entrepreneur with a much better business

He Built This Site in 8 Hours and Sold it for $2500

Simon Purdon recently launched GiveMeGiftIdeas.com 
It’s an AI-powered tool that asks you a few questions about the person you want to give a gift to, then generates some ideas.
The project has only made a few $100 in revenue – via affiliate links to products on Amazon – but now Simon is on the verge of selling it for $2500 
Simon details how he built the site here and here.
The first thing he did was check out if there was enough demand for such a website. He used Ahrefs to see how many people were searching Google for terms like “gift generator” each month.
Once that checked out, Simon scoped his competition 
Is there (realistically) a way I could steal some of that traffic, or is it completely dominated by the big dogs? If it is, I usually niche down a step further.
Competition didn’t look too tough, so he went ahead and started building out the site, mostly with these no-code tools…
GPT-3BubbleThen came the launch…
I launched/tested the idea just over a week ago in a private entrepreneurial group. Everyone seemed to love it.
I didn’t think I’d get much traction, but they obviously shared it with friends and family, and within 7 days I’d ticked over the 10k visits mark.
Simon didn’t fancy taking the project further, so he decided to flip it on Acquire.com. He listed it for sale for $2500, and apparently had serious interest from 5 buyers.
As I’m writing this, the listing is “under offer,” so it looks like the sale will be finalized soon 
What stands out most to me here is how fast Simon went from idea to launch.
Sounds like he came up with the idea in November, did some quick research, built it out in 8 hours with no-code tools, then hit the launch button 
He writes…
I’m a perfectionist, and part of building products like this is actually teaching myself to release imperfect things. And that’s simply because I don’t have the time to make them perfect.
Speed of release is so important. I could have waited till all the features I wanted were there, but chances are I would have probably lost motivation before I got them all done… and then never launched.

Specific Problem, Mysterious Solution
There’s a guy named Parris Lampropolous who apparently “is universally regarded as one of the best living copywriters.”
Here’s some advice from Parris via The Copywriter’s Handbook…
His rule of thumb for writing strong bullets: Be specific about the problem; be vague and mysterious about the solution. Plus, do it with a twist, hook, or unusual angle.
Parris gives as an example a copywriter who had to write a promotion for a book on natural health. One of the tips in the book was that sitting on bulky objects can cause back pain. So if you have a big, bulging wallet, take it out of your back pocket and keep it in your front pocket to prevent back stress.
The bullet that the copywriter came up with: “How a pickpocket can make your back pain better.”
He is specific about the problem (back pain), but mysterious about the solution (how can a pickpocket help with back pain?).
Can you use this approach in your ad copy or headlines to entice people to click through or continue reading?

Latinometrics tells the story of Doña Ángela, a 72-year-old grandmother who is making a splash on YouTube…
She’s a traditional Abuelita from rural Mexico who decided to share her culture through food.
What’s most mind-blowing: her videos get more views than some of the most recognized cooking figures, including Martha Stewart and Gordon Ramsay.
Doña Ángela currently has 4.25 million subscribers on YouTube and 6.1 million followers on Facebook 
One of her most popular videos, with 11 million views…
From My Ranch to Your Kitchen: Enchiladas the way we make them here in Michoacán…There’s a Spanish TikTok channel that estimates how much money different YouTubers make, and the estimate for Doña Ángela’s channel was $13.6K per month via YouTube ad revenue
That was almost 2 years ago, so she’s likely earning even more now.
Back to Latinometrics…
Her channel has become a topic of interest to researchers, one of which included it as part of the “YouTubers Campesinos” tendency. Schools have also used videos of Doña Ángela for language instruction. A Swedish university cited her channel as a means for migrants to reconnect with their culture when away from home.

The theme was first published in March 2013, so almost a decade ago. The creator – Phil Martinez aka ThemeNectar – has no other themes for sale, just that one.
And he’s made 139,000+ sales 
I found an interview from 2014 that notes Phil had done $1 million in revenue after only 22,000 sales. So by now that number should be north of $6 million 
Envato has a tiered fee structure, but Phil should still have been clearing $5 million easy after those fees.
There are tons of marketplaces like Envato out there…

The Pointlessly Complicated Path to $2.3M in Revenue

In 2012, I started a dorky side project, teaching weekend classes on how to get more traffic to your website from search engines.
In 2017, the side project became a real business. It has since grown 15x, with 50,000+ customers and $2.3M in revenue in 2022.
I accomplished this by consistently choosing the incredibly difficult and pointlessly complicated option, every chance I got.
Tommy’s business is ClickMinded, “a library of digital marketing SOPs, templates and online courses for marketers.”
But it’s been tough getting it to this point 
Over 4 years, we spent all of our time and hundreds of thousands of dollars implementing a number of different complicated business models, complicated marketing schemes and complicated management structures.
