The site is Irish Around The World 
I met the owner and fellow Irishman Stephen Palmer a few years ago in Bulgaria.
Given that it was Paddy’s Day recently, I reached out to Stephen and asked if he’d be willing to share some details about the site.
He replied…
The revenue is about USD$2500 per month going on the past 12 months… 95% of it comes from ad revenue.
I’ve tried a few affiliates including Amazon and Ancestry but they never converted well for me. Or if they did it was not worth the time for the income.
It’s just myself running the blog. I did hire a freelancer a few years ago but it was not worth the cost/income.
I started it in 2015 as just an extra blog to try and make additional income and didn’t actually take it seriously until Covid when my other two blogs took a massive hit. They were both in the travel niche.
As part of the site, Stephen puts out a “Weekly Dose of Irish” newsletter, which is packed with Irish proverbs, jokes, stories and poems. He also links to new/popular content on the website in each edition.
Here’s a joke I found on the website…
A tourist is in Cork but wants to go to Dublin for the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. He stops Paddy in the street and asks him, “Excuse me, can you tell me the quickest way to Dublin?” Paddy says, “Are you on foot or in the car?” The tourist says, “In the car.” Paddy says, “That’s the quickest way.”
Stephen’s tips for someone thinking to start their own niche site…
Don’t be discouraged if nothing happens initially, keep going. My blog was not making any money for the first year until I got on Mediavine for my ads and then started getting some rankings organically and social media traffic. The weekly email only started 2+ years after I started the blog. So keep it simple, keep going, listen to podcasts, audiobooks and don’t give up.

He Writes About Computers in Return For Money

That’s what it says on the LinkedIn bio of Anthony Agius.
Anthony started The Sizzle back in 2015.
That’s a daily tech email newsletter, with a focus on Anthony’s home country of Australia 
There’s a 30-day free trial and then it’s $6 a month or $60 a year to stay subscribed.
As of July 2022, 1193 people pay to read The Sizzle.
That works out to at least $71,580 per year for Anthony 
And that might only be half his income…
I spend half of my weekdays occupied with Sizzle related stuff and the other half as a freelance tech writer, mostly advertorial/sponsored content for various outlets but sometimes product reviews.
The Sizzle is a good example of Kevin Kelly’s 1000 true fans concept.
And Anthony’s success can surely be replicated in other countries.
Australia has a population of ~26 million, and only 0.005% of them pay to read The Sizzle.
(I’m sure Anthony has non-Aussie readers too, but you get my point.)

Just Enough To Keep You Going
George Carlin appears on pretty much every list of the best comedians of all-time 
I read his autobiography recently.
Here’s one of my highlights from that, George writing about his struggles to make it as a professional comic…
Only a couple months and it was kicking in just how hard this shit was. How few places there were where I felt secure. How many times I had to repeat to myself after the died-a-death nights: “Remember that terrific set three Fridays ago? Hang your hopes on that. Last night was an aberration. They were noisy, they were drunk, it was the second show, they’d already seen some of it . . .” (There was always a reason why the bad night wasn’t really.) But it could be very discouraging. And incredibly exciting when it was promising. The ratio of promise to discouragement was paper thin, but just enough to keep me going.
Isn’t it comforting to know that one of the greatest of all-time really struggled starting out?
Like most people, success didn’t come easy to him. He had to work at it constantly, and talk himself through the rough patches when it would have been easier to quit and do something else.
On your own journey, keep an eye out for those small wins and promises, hang your hopes on whatever keeps you going.
Stick with it long enough, and you can’t help but become pretty good

Incredible Things People Are Already Doing With GPT-4
GPT-4 was released a few days ago.
That’s the newest AI language model from OpenAI, a step up from GPT-3 
It’s also what powers ChatGPT: “If ChatGPT is the car, then GPT-4 is the engine” (source)
On Twitter, Linus Ekenstam is keeping track of “some incredible things people are already doing with GPT-4.”
Some mind-blowing stuff there, such as…
Another example comes from Jake Browatzke…
Holy crap! With GPT-4’s help and no previous coding experience I just made my first Google Chrome extension in a few hours.
GPT-4 walked me step by step thru the entire creation process, writing the code and fixing all errors that came up.
It’s a silly extension that translates the text of any webpage into “Pirate Speak” 
But it shows the epic potential of this technology.

I built a chrome extension keyword finder. Enter a command prompt keyword and it grabs the top google search keywords! I will advance this and end my $200 per month software system subscription in order to run more lean! Awesome stuff!
Launched an App 3 Months Ago, Sold it for $65,000

I launched an app 3 months ago with 0 budget and less than 600 followers. Yesterday I sold it for $65,000… I learned to code only 9 months ago.
The app is MakeLogo.ai, which lets users generate logos by writing a few prompts
Nico got some traction for his app by building in public on Twitter…
48 hours, 1 earthquake and 2 power outages later, I had my crappy MVP ready
His first few sales came from his Twitter followers, and he also launched on Product Hunt and “added the app to every startup directory I could put my hand on.”
Another thing he did to promote his app…
I also kept posting on Twitter, every time someone asked “what are you working on?” I replied with the name of the app, and the same when someone asked for AI-generated logos
Nico sold the app last week…
In total, the app made +$23,000 in sales and $15,000 in profit. So, that’s around $80,000 in total (profit + sale), which is equivalent to at least 5 years of safety net where I live
(He lives in Bali, btw)
Looks like Nico started learning to code via a $20 Python course on Udemy.
But it’s not like he hit a home run right out of the gate…
Now, keep in mind that it’s not my first shot at entrepreneurship.
In the last 5 years, I launched around 35 projects and most were total failures. Just between October and December 2022, I released 7 different apps.
I never gave up. I kept showing up. It’s a number game.

They Made $459K Asking People How Much Money They Make

I told you about Salary Transparent Street last July, back when they had 1 million combined followers on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube 
It’s run by Hannah and James, a couple in the US. They post short interviews with all kinds of professionals revealing how much money they make.
As I wrote several months ago…
Salary Transparent Street is a great concept in itself. Best I can tell, they only started back in April and have already built up that massive following. Their videos are short and simple interviews, very little editing, and the interviewer rarely appears on screen herself.
And there are plenty of ways they can monetize
Now their audience is up to ~1.7 million and they apparently pulled in $458,918 in revenue in 2022 alone…
And yes, they did only launch in April last year
The vast majority of their revenue has come from brand deals and partnerships.
They reported $280K in BPI (Brand and Partnership Income) for September, and in October announced a partnership with job site Indeed…
It was really important to us to choose a partner that brought additional value to our community and provided a service that we both already used and loved. James and I both got our last jobs on Indeed and a few others, and Indeed always lists the salary in the job description so it was a perfect fit.
One video that came out of that partnership: We went to Indeed HQ and interviewed Indeedians!
Hannah gives some career advice of her own at the end of another video 
Say yes to a lot of opportunities that make you uncomfortable. That’s the best way to learn and the best way to figure out what you like to do and what you don’t like to do.
I reckon there’s lots of opportunity to emulate Salary Transparent Street.
The exact same concept could work well in other countries and languages. Or you could niche down to a specific industry or profession.

Ugly Website Earning $100K/Month With Display Ads

This website is making $100k+ a month just with ads. The website sends you alerts for newly available jobs. Only focused on India.
They get about 13M visitors per month. So my $100k estimate might be false. It might be even more.
Description from the website…
FreeJobAlert.com provides free job alert service to job seekers in India on latest government jobs, on study material and on video lessons with online test.
And yeah, Similarweb estimates that the site gets 13.3 million visitors per month.
Looks like it’s mainly monetized with Ezoic and Google display ads 
Apparently Ezoic ads can pay anywhere from $1 to $50 per 1000 ad views. A site like FreeJobAlert is probably on the higher end of that scale, but even a conservative estimate of $10 per 1000 views = $130,000+ per month.
The site has been around for 10+ years so it would be hard for even a better-designed site to compete with. But there’s surely an opportunity to build something like this for other niches/languages/countries

The Things That Worked Before

The things that worked from $0 to $100,000 won’t always work when you’re trying to crack $500,000. They certainly won’t work at $5 million. Therefore, you have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. This is really, really hard.
I’m finding this to be true in my own business.
Getting to $3000/month as a freelancer took one set of skills and habits.
Getting to $5000/month via affiliate marketing was very different. But at least I could still do pretty much everything myself.
Getting to $20,000/month via affiliate marketing has been very different again. I’ve had to develop processes and hire a team, and I’m still learning how to get out of their way and stop being a bottleneck 
So yeah, what got you here probably won’t get you there.
Entrepreneurship is a never-ending video game. And each level is a new world with different rules and ways to win 
$5 Million a Year From Data They Don’t Own

On a recent episode of the My First Million podcast, Shaan Puri was complaining about the USPTO website 
That’s the website you go to if you want to apply for a patent or trademark in the US, or see which ones already exist.
At about the 41-minute mark of the podcast, Shaan talks about how ugly and unusable that website is…
It’s a public database… somebody should just make a more consumer-friendly layer on top. And then I found a business that does this.
That business is Trademarkia
They basically provide a much better user-interface for all the publicly available data on the USPTO website, then sell a bunch of products and services related to that.
Their main offering appears to be a trademark registration service for $99.
According to Shaan, the business does $5 million a year in revenue
Super-impressive for a website built on data that’s freely available elsewhere. They just made it easier to access and prettier to look at.
What other publicly available data is presented poorly online?

A few days ago Ali shared his business financials from January.
Revenue = £195,177 ($236K)Expenses = £179,334 ($217K)Profit = £15,843 ($19K)I was shocked when I saw those numbers. $236K revenue and only $19K profit??
But it seems Ali is intent on building a world-class team…
almost half of our £140k of expenses went into salaries.
A good chunk of expenses is dedicated to ‘staff training’
I really want everyone in my team to be a world expert at the thing that they do (e.g. editing / writing / etc), so I’m getting everyone on the team a personal coach to help with this goal.
I wouldn’t bet against a business that invests so much in talent.
