cats who steal the dogs’ beds

Busy weekend, what with the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt and trying to wrap up the line edits ofThe Heart’s Pursuit. But just had to take a moment to share this video collection of cats who steal the dogs’ beds. (The audio keeps cutting out on this video. Have no idea why.)

I have seen this happen in my own house. It’s no wonder Poppet “trash talks” about Pinky.

movie review: the children of huang shi

children of huang shi

Not sure how long ago I added this movie, released in 2008, to my Netflix queue or how long it took it to rise to the top, but I’m so glad it did.

In The Children of Huang Shi(based on a true story), British correspondent George Hogg attempts to save 60 war orphans during Japan’s occupation of China in the 1930s. With help from a guerilla fighter and a nurse, Hogg leads the children on foot across over 500 miles of treacherous terrain.

This movie reminded me a lot of The Inn of the Sixth Happin...

where do your ideas come from?

daydreaming

Novelists get asked all the time where they get their ideas.

My answer is always something like: Ideas are a dime a dozen. They’re anywhere and everywhere. The trick is finding the ones that you can make work in a novel.

It’s true. Ideas are the easy part, which is why my favorite part of writing is brainstorming, I suppose.

I read this quote about creative ideas the other day and absolutely love it.

“You get ideas from daydreaming. You get ideas from being bored. You get ideas all the time. The...

christian fiction wednesday 10-16-13

After years of writing novels, I’ve been privileged to meet many authors of Christian fiction, and I love to help readers find their work. Although I usually haven’t read the books I share in my Christian Fiction Wednesday posts (too many books, too little time), I like to feature books to help readers find them. Check out this week’s post and maybe you’ll discover another favorite author.

christ’s hands in the world

Regina Mundi statueWe had a guest speaker in church this morning. Mark Fields is involved in missions in the Vineyard movement. In that position, he travels all around the globe.I just have to share what to me was the most moving and meaningful of the stories he shared, about the hands of Christ.

On a visit to South Africa, he visited the Catholic cathedral, Regina Mundi (Queen of the World), a church that provided (or tried to provide) sanctuary to many during the height of the uprisings against apartheid. He s...

documentary review: searching for sugar man

Searching for Sugar ManSome writers were discussing how hard published novelists can labor, how so many of them can win countless awards, and yet they still cannot rise above mid-list status. Or they fail to be able to get another contract from traditional publishers because of numbers. Discouragement is a common condition. The feeling that so many are laboring in obscurity. Is God thwarting success?

That’s when I heard about the documentary, Searching for Sugar Man. Here’s the blurb: “Decades after Detroit singer-s...
