Christian Fiction Wednesday 10-16-13

After years of writing novels, I’ve been privileged to meet many authors of Christian fiction, and I love to help readers find their work. Although I usually haven’t read the books I share in my Christian Fiction Wednesday posts (too many books, too little time), I like to feature books to help readers find them. Check out this week’s post and maybe you’ll discover another favorite author.

christ’s hands in the world

Regina Mundi statueWe had a guest speaker in church this morning. Mark Fields is involved in missions in the Vineyard movement. In that position, he travels all around the globe.I just have to share what to me was the most moving and meaningful of the stories he shared, about the hands of Christ.

On a visit to South Africa, he visited the Catholic cathedral, Regina Mundi (Queen of the World), a church that provided (or tried to provide) sanctuary to many during the height of the uprisings against apartheid. He s...

documentary review: searching for sugar man

Searching for Sugar ManSome writers were discussing how hard published novelists can labor, how so many of them can win countless awards, and yet they still cannot rise above mid-list status. Or they fail to be able to get another contract from traditional publishers because of numbers. Discouragement is a common condition. The feeling that so many are laboring in obscurity. Is God thwarting success?

That’s when I heard about the documentary, Searching for Sugar Man. Here’s the blurb: “Decades after Detroit singer-s...

please don’t sparkle before breakfast

sunshineYesterday, I read a blog post, Creativity and Rejection: Is There a Link? It was quite interesting, including a snippet of a much-bleeped interview with Janis Joplin, so I forwarded the email to a group of writer friends. The conversation that followed has been fascinating.

Many posts have focused on the kind of childhood one had (happy or lonely or abusive) and whether the author leans toward a darker, more pessimistic personality type, prone to depression, or whether the author leans toward...

transparent: can you see me now?

A Promise Kept by Robin Lee Hatcher

It isn’t always easy to be transparent. Even for an extreme extravert like me.

Yesterday afternoon, I got an email from the senior acquisitions editor at my publisher’s. She had been looking over the back matter for my next release (A Promise Kept) and expressed a desire for me to change the brief note to readers that I’d turned in with the manuscript earlier this year. She wanted me to tell my “story behind the story.” I told her I would give it a try.

This is harder than it may sound. My stor...

countdown to the christian fiction scavenger hunt

Scavenger HuntIt’s coming soon! Another edition of the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt. There are 25 participating authors which means somebody is going to get 25 new/recent releases. The grand prize is an iPad!!

If you’ve never participated in one of these hunts, don’t worry. It’s easy. You begin with stop #1 which is always Lisa Bergren’s site and collect clues as you read the material posted on the author blogs. Each stop will have a new clue. When you collect all 25, you will return to a different page...

are you wearing pink?

pinkIt’s October. National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Are you wearing or carrying pink this month? More importantly, have you scheduled your mammogram?

At left is the Miche bag I carry in October. This is my large size. A dear friend gave me the same purse in the smaller size, so I’m set, no matter where I’m going.

Regular readers of my blog know that I’m a breast cancer survivor. Three years, come December. Strange. It feels like eons ago and like just yesterday that I got the call from the ph...
