Up Up and Away

Princess Pinky

I’m trying out a blogging app on my iPad in advance of a trip to Southern California where I’m going to fellowship with a small group of Christian writers. A retreat without any agenda. nice! I am so blessed to be able to join them again this year. The DH and I both were able to go last year, but this time I must go solo and leave my guy at home to referee Poppet and Pinky and mind the fort. I’ll miss him and am so grateful for the ways he supports me.

I’ve spent most of the day getting organi...

The Importance of 10K Steps

FitBitAbout thirteen months ago, I bought a FitBit. I had tried a couple of different devices to count my steps (and calories burned and distance walked, etc.), but it was the FitBit that finally was the perfect device for me. I loved the Ultra (now called the One), but the FitBit Zip is the best choice for me because it runs on a watch battery and I don’t have to charge it (which used to mean I would walk off and forgot to wear it so it wasn’t counting my steps).

It has been my goal ever since I go...

Christian Fiction Wednesday

After years of writing novels, I’ve been privileged to meet many authors of Christian fiction, and I love to help readers find their work. Although I usually haven’t read the books I share in my Christian Fiction Wednesday posts (too many books, too little time), I like to feature their books to help readers find them. Check out these books and maybe you’ll discover another favorite author or two.

A Purpose and a Plan

butterflyI spent Sunday evening, eating with and speaking to a group of women who are in a transitional living program in Boise.

Chrysalis provides a safe, loving Christian environment for women coming out of incarceration, addiction, and abuse, and it gives women the tools to change their life-style and become contributing members of the community.

I shared my testimony with them, including many of the different lessons God has taught me through the years. It was a blessing to be with these courageous...

Is There a Good Habits Limit?

Awesome, Not PerfectI was thinking as I was counting out my daily supplements into my weekly pill dispenser how every time I form a new good habit, a different good habit seems to fall by the wayside.

Does that happen to anybody else? Is there a limit on how many good habits one person can establish?

Every morning, I swallow a gazillion (slight exaggeration) supplements with a health juice that fights inflammation in the body. Every evening, I take a few more before bed. And although sometimes I joke that I buy so...

Work As Unto the Lord

WaitingThis morning I’ve been meditating on two words: “work,” which for me means writing, and “wait.”

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul detailed how followers of Christ can have holiness in our family lives (Col 3:18-21), holiness in our work lives (3:22 – 4:1), and holiness in our public lives (4:2-6).

When it comes to work, it is so easy to just get caught up in the daily grind. Isn’t it? Or to just put in our 8 to 5. To look like a chipmunk running on a treadmill in its cage, going fast but go...

God Will Reveal It To You

reveal

David via Compfight.com

This morning, I opened my Bible to the book of Philippians. Four chapters that are rich, rich, rich. In my Bible, this book is full of highlights and underlining and notations in the margins. One such notation reads,“God will reveal to me the things that I need to know.” It’s dated February 1997.

After reading the entire book, I went back to meditate on the verses, Chapter 3:13-15, and that particular notation in the margin.

Brethren, I do not regard myself as having lai...

Perception

Sunshower Chris Lofqvist via Compfight

According to my dictionary, the definition of “perception” is:

the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses
the state of being or process of becoming aware of something in such a way
a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression

Psalm 135:18a says:Those who make them [idols] will be like them.

Question: In the way I live and speak, am I reflecting God or an idol I have built?
