Work As Unto the Lord

WaitingThis morning I’ve been meditating on two words: “work,” which for me means writing, and “wait.”

In his letter to the Colossians, Paul detailed how followers of Christ can have holiness in our family lives (Col 3:18-21), holiness in our work lives (3:22 – 4:1), and holiness in our public lives (4:2-6).

When it comes to work, it is so easy to just get caught up in the daily grind. Isn’t it? Or to just put in our 8 to 5. To look like a chipmunk running on a treadmill in its cage, going fast but go...

God Will Reveal It To You

reveal

David via Compfight.com

This morning, I opened my Bible to the book of Philippians. Four chapters that are rich, rich, rich. In my Bible, this book is full of highlights and underlining and notations in the margins. One such notation reads,“God will reveal to me the things that I need to know.” It’s dated February 1997.

After reading the entire book, I went back to meditate on the verses, Chapter 3:13-15, and that particular notation in the margin.

Brethren, I do not regard myself as having lai...

Christian Fiction Wednesday

After years of writing novels, I’ve been privileged to meet many authors of Christian fiction, and I love to help readers find their work. Although I usually haven’t read the books I share in my Christian Fiction Wednesday posts (too many books, too little time), I like to feature their books to help readers find them. Check out these books and maybe you’ll discover another favorite author or two.

Perception

Sunshower Chris Lofqvist via Compfight

According to my dictionary, the definition of “perception” is:

the ability to see, hear, or become aware of something through the senses
the state of being or process of becoming aware of something in such a way
a way of regarding, understanding, or interpreting something; a mental impression

Psalm 135:18a says:Those who make them [idols] will be like them.

Question: In the way I live and speak, am I reflecting God or an idol I have built?

Satisfaction for a Thirsty Soul

Quenched Thirst

My word for 2013 is “quenched” as insatisfied. My heart for this year is to find my satisfaction in Jesus alone. I began the year by reading a fabulous book calledThe Well: Why Are So Many Still Thirsty? by Mark Hall. I highly recommend it.

This morning, I was reading in the Psalms and paused when I came to Psalm 107:9, which reads:

For He has satisfied the thirsty soul,

And the hungry soul He has filled with what is good.

(NASB95)

What a beautiful promise! When my soul thirsts, God Himself will s...

HarperCollins Christian Publishing: A History

My first book from Zondervan was released in 2000. My first book from Thomas Nelson was released in 2008. I have several novels coming from both of them in the next year.

In 2012, these two publishers were joined together as HarperCollins Christian Publishing, and I loved watching this video that lets us see a history of these two companies going back a couple of hundred years. It’s worth watching.

Having Done Everything, Stand

Waiting

This morning, I openedStreams in the Desert(the updated version by Jim Reimann). Regular readers of my blog know that this classic devotional by LB Cowman is my favorite of all devotionals I’ve ever used/read. My lovely leather-bound copy is highlighted and has sticky tabs galore. So many times God has used this book to speak truth into my life.

But when I read the August 16th entry this morning, which was completely unmarked, it was as if I’d never read it before. Something I’ve been feeling...

Yesterday, I finished the revisions on my historical novella that will be in theFour Weddings & a Kiss “Western brides” collection (June 2014). It was a fun story and a relatively easy revision, and the novella is now in the capable hands of my line editor.

This morning, I’ve been reading through all of the track changes markups on and the revision letter from my editor for my historical novel,The Heart’s Pursuit (May 2014). A lot more work has to be done on...

Meet Tyson from BELOVED

Since characters are the key for me, I thought it might be fun to write about some of my characters in a blog post series. So here goes with my new entry, the hero of Beloved, Tyson Applegate(to see my post about Diana, go here).
