Book Review: Covert

Covert (Chicago Angels #1) by G.K. Moore: Alessandro is the unwilling heir of a Chicago crime family. Intent on leaving the life set out for him, he decides to run as fast and as far away as possible. His plans crumble when one girl crash lands in his life. He should hate the daughter of his father’s mistress, but it’s near impossible when he finds that they are alike in more ways than one.

Olivia grew up watching men walk in and out of her mother’s life. When one man finally decides to stay, she learns that crime lords don’t leave until someone’s dead. Olivia’s salvation comes from the person she least expects: his son.

Six years later, Olivia and Alessandro are reunited when her life is threatened. If time has proven one thing, it’s that repeating their parents’ mistakes seems inevitable.

In a world where friendship is a luxury and love a death sentence, two unlikely lovers find each other only to be separated by their cruel reality.
Liza's thoughts: Covert was one of the best books I have had the pleasure of reading lately. I enjoyed it from beginning to end. The plot is not a repeat of the same ole same ole.
Olivia is a girl running from her past, but can you every really get away? The past always catches up with you…Always. Alessandro is who she does not want to call for help and swore she never would, but when a dead body is laying at her feet and she has no other options, she gives in.
What happens when the past meets the present and lies are brought to the surface where the truth must be told?
My advice for you as a reader is to make sure you start this early in the evening, because it is a book you will not want to put down until the end. The plot, and characters are very well developed and the author covered all details. I would recommend this read to anyone who loves hot sexiness, suspense and lies and over the age of 17.

Book Review & Giveaway: The Unimaginable

We're celebrating the release of The Unimaginable by Dina Silver!

Title: The UnimaginableAuthor: Dina SilverAge Group: Adult Genre: Contemporary Romance/Mystery/SuspenseGoodreads

SYNOPSIS:

From the author of One Pink Line comes a story about letting go of the past and finding bravery in the depths of fear. Set on the sun-soaked beaches of Thailand and the rough waters of the Indian Ocean, The Unimaginable paints a vivid portrait of a young woman on a journey to find herself—and her harrowing fight for survival.

After twenty-eight years of playing by the rules, Jessica Gregory moves from her small Indiana town to Phuket, Thailand. But her newfound routine is upended with the arrival of Grant Flynn, a captivating, elusive man who is sailing around the world while trying to move on from a past tragedy. Jessica volunteers to help crew Grant’s boat, Imagine, on a passage across the Indian Ocean and finds herself falling in love with him as the voyage gets underway. But when disaster strikes, Jessica must summon her courage as the crew is confronted by unspeakable terrors––and, aboard a boat named for such promise, comes the unimaginable.

Lori's thoughts: I worried when I started this book a couple of days ago that I didn't have enough time to read it before the review was due. As it turns out, I needn't have worried. I couldn't put it down. The characters are people who will stay with me long after the book was finished. As soon as I started reading, I was catapulted into another world. I could see this as a movie. Definitely!
Jessica is an amazing woman, if not a little naive to what's out there beyond her life in the heartland of Indiana. I admire her for going after her dreams and dreaming big. Grant Flynn. What can I say? Such a wonderfully selfless man. Some might see him as selfish, I see him as selfless. He, also, was not afraid to dream and chase his dreams literally around the world.
Some otherworldly cause put these two people into one another's path.
I laughed and I cried and I was completely caught up in the story. I had to see what happened next. Many times I found myself holding my breath. And I couldn't have christened the new boat with a better name! YES!
Highly recommended, FIVE HEART read!

Book Review: Play Me Series

Play Me #1: Play Me Wild (Play Me #1) by Tracy Wolff: In the seductive first installment of an eBook original serial from the New York Times bestselling author of Ruined and Addicted, a woman running from her past has finally found a bit of control . . . until her powerful new boss makes her go wild.

My name is Aria Winston. I’ve fought desperately to escape the seedy underbelly of Las Vegas. Now I’m on my own, in control of my own life and my own destiny . . . just the way I like it. Until Sebastian Caine changes everything.

Working as a cocktail waitress at one of Vegas’s hottest five-star casinos means putting up with a ton of bad behavior from the big spenders. But it pays the bills—and that’s all that matters to Aria, who needs every last dollar to escape from her father’s destructive grasp and the brutal man he expects her to marry. But when she lashes out against a billionaire who won’t take no for an answer, she nearly loses everything—until Sebastian steps in. The owner’s son and handpicked successor, Sebastian is dark, sexy, and kinder than any rich man should be. And when he apologizes and offers to keep her job safe, Aria can’t help the way her body reacts to his. Suddenly her job, and the security it brings her, isn’t the only thing Aria wants.

Play Me is an erotic serial intended for mature audiences. Aria and Sebastian’s story continues in Play Me: Hot.
Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Play Me Wild generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Control. A feeling. A craving. A need. What does it mean to have control? To want it? Where does it come from? Is it a desire you innately possess or a craving you discover? Play Me Wild examines control as a possession and a desire in this first novella filled with off the charts sexual tension. One character possesses control while the other discovers their need to have it.

Play Me Wild presents an excellent first story in a new serial series about a powerful, tortured man and the strong, fierce woman who sets him on fire. Told from dual points of view, the strength and equal-mindedness both characters display make it virtually impossible not to become enthralled with their story. How they meet, under the circumstances in which Sebastian first sees Aria, their initial responses to each other’s presence are what great erotic romances encompass.

Further, this story is what good serials possess. This book one is a great building block for the series, creating a story and a background in which the readers make connections to both the hero and heroine both of whom shield themselves with the mysteries of their pasts. It’s full of intrigue, sexual tension, enigmatic characters, and an engaging plot you just have to know more about. The writing is excellent, constantly moving forward and engaging as well. I can't wait to see where this author takes this series.

Play Me #2: Play Me Hot (Play Me #2) by Tracy Wolff

Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Play Me Hot generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Play Me Hot succeeds as a follow up to book one. Picking up exactly where they left off, the connection between Sebastian & Aria feels as undeniable to the reader as it does to the characters. The author manipulates this feeling of control between a desire and possession again with book two. Most of this installments gives us their first sexual encounter together. Off-the-charts HOT. The passion exuded from both of these people keeps you glued to the pages.

Being a novella, it’s short and easy to read through in one sitting especially since the writing pulls as far into the characters orbit as you can be. Sebastian’s needs for Aria, his compulsion to care for the fragility she hides behind her strength provides a safe haven of belief from the reader. He can read her like a book and is drawn to reactions so much so he pulls her apart inch by inch. Whispers of dominance and submission come into play during their first encounter. It’s a softer kind of dominance laced with a delicate submission. Different than the usual BDSM I’ve read yet just as intriguing, just as special.

We get clues and ideas about their pasts but never find out what their story is which just adds to the intrigue of the plot. We’re left wondering how much Sebastian can really break down Aria’s walls and when will she see the scars of his past as well?

There are parts of this story, during their long sex scene, where the language and structure gets repetitive but it’s really so passionate it can be overlooked. Each novella leaves you hanging a bit at the end but not without having already made you want to know more throughout the entire story. Play Me Hot is another great installment.

Play Me #3: Play Me Hard (Play Me #3) by Tracy Wolff

Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Play Me Hard generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

Play Me Hard continues the intriguingly erotic story of Sebastian Caine and Aria Winston. Things are getting deeper. It picks up exactly where book two in the serial series leaves off. In my first two reviews I’ve mentioned how much I feel this writing and this author’s plots. It’s excellently written, in my opinion. There’s not much worth complaining about with these serials. I love the characters and the writing and the plot enough that I’m zipping right through the books. So I’ll just tell you what I love about book three….

In Play Me Hard I love how the author keeps the plot moving forward. Always moving ahead and moving on, the conflicts are not long drawn out processes. She moves the story forward while still maintaining the mystery of the past. The actuality of the situation is that while these characters move forward each of them falls further and further into the others rabbit hole, so to speak. It seems like so much time is passing when the reality of the story is they’ve only known each other a few short days. The fact they both acknowledge the trust for each other and the need for each other implicitly I also find intriguing. They both feel it, the reader feels it and understands it. The beauty of the characters is that they don’t quite understand the why’s of their new relationship. What will it mean? What does it mean already? How much are they willing to expose? I love that Sebastian wants to break Aria open and I love open Aria is to the idea. The story is all about them and the mysteries of their pasts without other characters muddling the connection. The need and passion is palpable through the writing.

There’s a cliffhanger to end Play Me Hard that’s more acutely jaw-dropping than the rest. You’ll be so drawn into Sebastian and Aria’s world it won’t even bother you. You’ll just wait for more to see where they end up.

Play Me #4: Play Me Real (Play Me #4) by Tracy Wolff

Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Play Me Real generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. **

I absolutely adore serial structured books. This new serial series from Tracy Wolff is no exception to my love for the structure. The Play Me Series requires you enjoy a fast-paced relationship. Much like Wolff’s writing on the pages, Sebastian and Aria’s relationship moves at lightning speed. The style in which Wolff writes makes this relationship undeniably believable for me. The author has pulled me into these characters orbit totally.

Sebastian and Aria especially are back in Play Me Real in a big way. The reader finishes book three on a major cliffhanger, knowing all along the pasts of both characters are dark. Book four picks up right where three leaves us hanging and the author makes no concessions to the reader with light-hearted banter. We’re thrust into the pain of Sebastian’s past. We live it through both his recanting and Aria’s witnessing of his pain. Through his pain, Aria feels an aching – both for her shaded past and for the suffering so palpable from Sebastian. To ease him she submits to pain without fully understanding where this submission side of her originated.

It’s a poignant installment of the series. Secrets revealed, trust questioned, and intense feelings swirl through the minds of both Sebastian and Aria. The reader realizes there’s still much more to learn in the final book. We need to know about Aria’s suffering badly after this book. We’re intrigued to the light BDSM Sebastian loves and fires in Aria. Play Me Real equals another great reading experience; I’m completely hooked on these books for sure.

Play Me #5: Play Me Right (Play Me #5) by Tracy Wolff

Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Play Me Right generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**

To start, I’m saying (and you can tell from my previous gushing reviews) this series gave me a really enjoyable few days of reading. I was completely enthralled in Sebastian and Aria’s stories, their mysterious histories, and their undeniable desire for each other. I read the series rather quickly and while it was quick reading the author's fast storytelling in no way deters from the rapture of the characters. Her installments are sharp and focused solely on the main characters and their basic need for each other. I’ve absolutely been attracted to these two from start to finish. Sebastian and Aria’s fast relationship controls the reader just as the two of them fight for control; while they find kinship in control fueling hot desire. I’ve not read any other titles by Tracy Wolff. Her structural efficacy and sharp words have left me intrigued and looking forward to reading more from her.

With that said, this last book – Play Me Right - really let me down. If this book five was a transition book to an ending in book six I would have felt so much better about the way we said goodbye to Sebastian and Aria. Because in actuality, we didn’t get to say goodbye at all. Their story ends so abruptly once we learn of Aria’s scarred past there’s about five minutes to digest before the characters reach conclusions about their relationship and the screen fades to black. I don’t feel resolved, I don’t feel sated about their story. An epilogue maybe could have helped? I’m not sure. I do know after becoming invested in these two so easily I expected more out of the final book. As a reader who hasn’t read Wolff’s Ethan Frost Series, the caveat at the end telling us we’ll see cameos of Sebastian and Aria isn’t enough to satisfy me.

Play Me Right just wasn’t a proper ending to a great serial series. The writing excels as usual. The engaging characters excel. The passion, the desire, the consuming need to learn more about them were all present. Previously stated, had this been another transition book into a final story I’d have loved and gave it five stars. But for a finale, I just can’t. There’s too many loose ends that need tying. Too many questions about Aria’s past are unanswered. I’m wondering too much about their future and where they go from here with what we’ve learned about Aria.

I’d definitely check out this author’s other works. I’m especially intrigued about Ethan and Chloe after their cameos in the Play Me series. But, I can’t rightly and justifiably say I think you’d enjoy this Play Me series without being disappointed in the way it ends. The first four installments I really liked.

Excerpt My pulse quickens as I see a long lump on the bed farthest from where I’m standing. For a moment, I think I hear him talking in his sleep.  For a moment, I think of sliding under the covers with him, just to enjoy the irony. We’re sleeping with a wall between us tonight, but instead of a hole he sawed, there’s a door he left propped open. For once, we can actually reach each other. But he said he didn’t want your company.I exercise my will power and tip-toe slowly around the hotel bed, so I’m standing right beside his sleeping form.At least I think he’s sleeping. His cheek is pressed against the pillow, and his unhurt hand is curled into a fist up near his chin.I’m fighting the urge to touch him, battling the forbidden desire to lean down close enough so I can brush my lips over his damp hair. From where I’m standing, I can smell the shampoo he used. It’s fruity; sweet. It’s so at odds with his big, rugged body. As if to make me want him more, he shifts his hips a little, and the sheet covering his chest slips down, revealing huge shoulders, smooth, hard pecs, and the upper portion of his incredible abs.Oh my.That’s a lot of muscle there.I take a step back, feeling exhilarated because he’s beautiful, and I’m a bad, bad girl for sneaking in to watch him sleep. That’s when his hand shoots out and grabs my wrist.I let out a little cry as he jerks me toward the bed. Then he’s sitting up. His hands close around my waist and I’m dragged atop his sheet-covered lap. He strokes up from my hips, over my sides, and over my bare shoulders, tickling my neck before he gets a firm grip on my face.  “What did I tell you,” he hisses, “about coming into my room?”

Book Review: 22918

22918 by Kimberly A. Bettes: Lester Wine is a serial killer. Having brutally murdered dozens of women, he serves out his final days on death row. As his execution date nears, he recounts his story to a young journalist and budding author, telling every gory detail of his life and of the crimes he committed, all while fantasizing about the chance to do them one more time.

*For mature audiences only.

Lori's thoughts: I'm so glad I found this gem. I love the way the author wrote it. I thought the story was believable and entertaining. I saw the book on Facebook and started stalking... er following Kimberly A. Bettes. I read the excerpt on Amazon and was hooked. I had a really hard time putting this book down.

The book is written in the form of an interview, but it's more like the killer talks about all of his victims, starting with the very first one when he was a young boy. There's not a lot of dialogue. There's not a lot of anything about the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth. It wasn't overly gruesome and gory, because that's not how Lester liked to kill his victims.

Of course I tend to have a morbid curiosity about this sort of thing. I love watching shows about serial killers. Having it be told about someone in Missouri makes it more interesting for me somehow. Especially when I know someone who actually works at Potosi!

Well done! I look forward to reading more by this author.

Book Review: MC Chronicles: The Diary of Bink Cummings: Vol 1

MC Chronicles: The Diary of Bink Cummings: Vol 1 by Bink Cummings: I'm a biker, and I'm a woman, who was raised by my biker family the Sacred Sinners.

Growing up an MC brat, I've known nothing but leather, booze, club whores, comradery, and bikes, my entire life.

My name is Eva "Bink" Cummings, and this is my story.

How at the ripe old age of thirty, with no husband, no kids, and being a part of a motorcycle club. Things aren't always what they appear to be. I've found out the hard way, that your life, in an instant, can be flipped upside down. And the people you know and love aren't always what they seem.

Steamy Adult romance
Warning: Contains Mature scenarios, and mass quantities of profanity. For Ages 18+

This is not a Stand Alone, Vol 2 will be released Feb 2015.
Teri Lyn's thoughts: **MC Chronicles: The Diary of Bink Cummings: Vol 1 generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**

MC Romances intrigue the hell out of me. The lifestyle I’m completely unfamiliar with yet totally consumed by the nature of this life. Each MC romance story I’ve read expresses a different take on what biker life embodies, each no less interesting than the last. Then Bink Cummings comes along and writes a book based on the actual biker life she leads and captivates me even more so than many other fiction MC romances I've read. Everything you love about MC romances presents itself: a bas ass woman, intensity, grit, fiery personalities, alpha males, and uninhibited sex. Bink’s story captivates you so much more because it’s a personal account of actual events. This type of storytelling makes it all the more real for the reader.

The writing sets the reader on Bink’s journey through her own head sorting out her emotions and reactions to events on the fly. It’s a very well written diary-style re-telling of a crucial turning point in her life. We get some history, some insight into the ways of her mind and her world. We also get a front row seat to the inside of the Sacred Sinners Motorcycle Club – where most anything goes. We get a red-hot relationship that’s building upon years of kinship and trust, a relationship Bink herself isn’t quite sure how to handle with the alpha male of all alpha males that, as it turns out, I think she’s been handling all her life. The question is why? And lastly we get to ride out some suspense and intrigue right along with Bink based on what’s going on in the club and why certain things are changing in her life.

This woman, hands down, exemplifies a bad ass woman. For the simple fact that she took the craziness in her head and put it to paper for us to read and enjoy. That takes guts. Guts I’d presume derive from the very lifestyle she’s telling us about. Her life maintains a raw, gritty course – one that she owns completely. She’s a Queen of a club for whom the members not only adore her but importantly respect her. The way Bink Cummings has told us her story is an amazing style choice. Learning things as they happened, just as Bink learned them leaves us with questions in which we need answers. We feel for the secondary characters just as she does. We wonder about the hero of the story just as she wonders about him. We’re living the life right alongside her. It provides for a captivating ride of a book. I for one can’t wait for the next chronicle to be released. I want more Bink, Big Dick, and all the Sacred Sinners.
