Review: In Deep
In Deep (In Deep #1) by Kella McKinnon: Brielle
What would you do if you met a man that made you burn like wildfire from the inside out? Burn so hot that with one touch you forgot to breathe?
And if you knew that he had dangerous secrets? Would you be able to walk away?
I couldn’t. As strong as I know I am, I kept going back for more of him. That body… those eyes…
I saw him for the first time on my very first day in Vegas, and even then I think a part of me knew, because I couldn’t look away. It was like that moment when you see something flying towards you and you know it’s going to hit you before you can ever move out of the way, so you just watch, transfixed, as it crashes into you. Cristos Vicario: owner of the illustrious Adagio hotel and casino and reputed billionaire playboy. He sure as hell wasn’t what he seemed on the surface. That man had secrets. No one knew what a dark and dangerous world he lived in, and when I finally saw him for what he was, it was already far too late. I found myself inextricably tied to him forever. The course of my life altered. My entire world changed forever as he took away my freedom and gave me the key to my dreams in one fell swoop.
How could I have known that the one man who should have been my greatest nightmare would become the one thing I couldn’t live without? And all I had to do was forgive him…
Cristos
I was only living for one thing, one goal, one endgame… until I saw Brielle. And when I touched her, it was all over for me… I just didn’t know it yet. Not until I broke all of my rules for her, one after another, and that still wasn’t enough. I wanted more.
I wanted it all. Yeah, what I did to her was pretty much unforgivable. I know that now. Some small part of me might have known it then, too, but it didn’t matter. I had to hold on to her. I would have done anything to keep her… and I did.
Now I’ve put her in danger, dragged her into my world, and I don’t know whether to push her away or hold her tighter. Letting her go would be the right thing to do… but every time I try to do the right thing… I can’t.
When I take her, it’s always hard and desperate, as if she’ll disappear if I can’t make her feel the same things I feel... if I can’t force her to care about me enough that she’ll look past everything else and see into my heart.
Last night, after she fell asleep, still wrapped in my arms, I rested my lips against the top of her head and inhaled the scent of her as she slept. Trusting me, even though she shouldn’t. “I don’t deserve you”, I whispered. “But I want you. God, I want you so badly.”
Teri Lynn's thoughts: **In Deep generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**
In Deep tells the story of dark and dangerous billionaire bad boy, Cristos, and the educated beauty Brielle by way of alternating POV, engaging dialogue and an interesting plot progression. Both characters are quite strong in their being each coming from pasts they haven’t fully let go. One of which we learned for certain is quite dark and haunted yet we don’t fully understand the magnitude. The other much less dark but no less painful. Each of these characters entertained me.
I struggled back and forth with what to rate this book between three and four stars. While the writing could definitely be more fluid and bit more polished, there is no denying the fact of intrigue here. This author somehow completely drew me into the story and engrossed me in these two characters. The attraction to each other was shear animalistic passion. Drawn to each other like magnetics, each taking a mature stance on the development of that relationship. There were definitely parts of the story that frustrated me, there’s a push/pull dynamic between the two characters that gets redundant. But there’s no denying I completely engrossed in what was happening in this plot – some of which is totally predictable yet still intriguing. It’s a hard book for me to review.
Know that I believe readers will be engrossed by Cristos and Brielle’s story. Some finer points to the story could definitely be polished but overall I refuse to rate based on nitpicking. The story left me hanging and I had no other choice but to pick up with book two immediately because the author left me wanting more of the story between these two. That in and of itself is testament to the story. I’d definitely recommend In Deep to romance lovers who don’t mind a push/pull dynamic between heroine/hero, a little predictable mystery, and hot passion.

“I very desperately want to kiss you.”
My mouth forms into a line. “And that’s bad because…?”
He takes a deep intake of air into his lungs and looks at me. I mean—really looks at me. Deep into my being. “Because I’m afraid if do, I won’t be able to stop.”
I elevate my body and collapse onto his chest. “Then, don’t.” If anything is like his previous kisses, I’m in for a passionate road ahead.
His hand reaches behind my head and I watch in slow motion as his beautiful face moves toward mine. The moment our lips touch, all of my other senses go haywire, feeling everything. Pleasure, need, hunger…want. So much want. I want everything he has to offer. In this moment, I don’t care what the future holds. I don’t care if he finds out about my shattered past and hates it. In this instant, I only care about him and the feelings he’s unleashing in and on my body.
His grip on my hair tightens as the kiss deepens. We moan together, feeling the pleasure poring from our bodies. His lips are sweet at first. Restrained and guarded. Almost as if he’s willing himself to slow down. But, I don’t want him controlled. I want him wild. I want him like the rain pours down. Taking no prisoners. The rain doesn’t care who it drenches; it just comes down, down, down. Soaking you. I want him forceful and firm, taking me how he wants. Just like the rain.
The thought of stopping makes me physically ill. This moment, being with him, in his warm, comforting embrace might be the most beautiful moment of my life. It’s heated and perfect. Stopping isn’t an option.
My hands move down his torso, taut and hard. His muscles move and bend under my touch and I feel myself growing wet as every second passes. The swirl of his tongue sends me high and I bite his bottom lip.
“I don’t think I’ve wanted anything or anyone as much as I want you, my Pretty Girl,” he hums in between kissing up and down my neck. “Nothing is as good as being with you. You have me soaring.”
He doesn’t have much time to say anything else before I’m pulling him up by his shirt, lifting it up and over his head. He grabs at my blouse, unbuttoning every button with detailed precision. When he opens my shirt, he simply stares, eyes electric. He puts his hand in between my breasts and just touches—feels.
“Come to bed with me. As much as I want you. Here. Now, I’ve gotta have you in bed. Slowly.”
I nod my head, unable to form any coherent words. It’s almost as if the hand that’s resting on my chest is somehow digging into my body, willing my heart to beat violently. He’s able to control me.
I wonder if I do the same.
I gently move off of his body and stand, watching him swing his legs off the couch. His body lifts and like a peacock, he looks big and alarming. Proud.
Grabbing my hand, he leads me up the stairs, stopping half way to pin me against the wall to thoroughly kiss me.
Hauling me to his room, he opens the door, turns on a small light on his nightstand and the cool air whooshes against my face. The blindingly white down blanket shines bright, but the dark, patterned pillows offset the brightness of the covers.
“Christ, you’re beautiful.”

Cassie Graham is the author of Unable to Resist. She also hates talking about herself. It makes her nervous and somewhat sweaty. So, she’s going to make this short.
While writing is her true passion, her family is even more important. Her ultimate happy place is sitting in her house with her husband and daughter while writing stories about lovers who are meant to be together. She’d live in that world forever if she could.

Book Review: Riding Steele Series
Riding Steele: Kidnapped (Riding Steele #1)
by Opal Carew
Being kidnapped by bikers is a harrowing experience, but for some reason, Laurie doesn’t feel as terrified as she should. The leader’s steely eyes soften when he looks at her, and the others in his gang clearly know she’s hands off. But does that include Steele's hands? Her brain resists him, but her body insists she wants those big hands all over her.
Steele doesn’t know how he wound up in this mess–with a kidnapped woman on his hands and the police hot on their trail. Now he and Laurie are in hiding at an isolated cabin, and Steele has to figure out how to extricate himself . . . and steer clear of his accidental captive whose tight, slinky clubbing attire is making him think all kinds of dangerous thoughts…
Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Riding Steele: Kidnapped generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
This is part one of serial series by Opal Carew. I've not read any other works by this author to date but found her writing style enjoyable and easy. Kidnapped is a very short installment where the reader is introduced to an entire cast of characters that are part of a motorcycle club. Except for the heroine who's saved from danger winding up in throes of the club without understanding why. Some aspects of the story were unclear to me and I think I made a few assumptions based on the text without really having the answers. However, I'm intrigued enough to definitely continue on with the series, eager to find out what happens next. The hero description sounds positively alpha hotness. The heroine comes across as a bit skittish and weak but I'm hoping we see her feistiness shine in future installments.
Riding Steele: Untamed (Riding Steele #2)
by Opal Carew
Teri Lyn's thoughts: Riding Steele: Untamed picks up directly where the cliffhanger dropped us in book one. Our heroine, Laurie, remains conflicted by her apparent kidnappers. However, in book two those conflicted feelings are becoming muddled by the erotic fantasies her captors live out daily. These fantasies leave both Steele and Laurie carnal in each others presence; one trying to escape, the other trying to protect. The erotica intrigued me greatly in this book. We got hints of it in book one but witnessed the depth of the fantasies here. I want to Laurie will submit to erotic desire. These books are so short and the writing so fluid it takes no time at all to get through them. Prepare for cliffhangers though - if you don't want to wait the week or so between releases I wouldn't recommend starting until all books are released.
Riding Steele: Collide (Riding Steele #3)
by Opal Carew
Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Riding Steele: Collide generously provided by the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.**
Again the author seamlessly picks up where she left us hanging in book two. Laurie finds herself still denying what she wants from Steele but the denial gets harder to portray. She's angry and afraid; a little weak in my opinion. Steele seems just as conflicted though he's all alpha male just reeking of carnal desire. Laurie's past fully reveals itself and the answers ease her mind yet make her more vulnerable in their wake. Steele wants to protect Laurie. The writing and plot move so easily the story is over just as fast as it begins. This book ends in a cliffhanger though not as acutely striking as the previous two. We have some answers unlike the others and we just wait to see where Steele takes us.
Riding Steele: Wanted (Riding Steele #4)
by Opal Carew
Teri Lyn's thoughts: Once again this author effortlessly transitions from the cliffhanger ending of the last book to this with much ease. She makes it easy to remember where we left off in book three and that much easier for the reader to be engaged in the characters with this constant forward-moving plot. Wanted holds as book four in the series and there’s still this push/pull dynamic going on between Steele and Laurie that feels more and more awkward. It’s a contradictory stance from both characters at this point as Laurie is resisting the lifestyle Steele has introduced yet relents to it through her own carnal desire he’s awakened in her. Steele fights contradictory feelings over his unusually possessive grip on Laurie. We learn a great deal more about the crew, their history, and their friendship in this installment. It’s quite a provocative read but starting to border on a bit outlandish. We’re left with another cliffhanger but I know this author will move us forward fluidly once again in book five. Recommended for erotica/ménage/angst lovers.
Riding Steele: Crossroads (Riding Steele #5)
by Opal Carew
Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Riding Steele: Crossroads generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
Riding Steele: Crossroads again starts immediately where the story faded to black in book four. The author here combined the angst, love, passion, and depth of darkness she included in book one. Laurie forces herself to submit to the knowledge that Steele and company mean well to her, they care for her in a way no other people ever have. Steele copes with feelings of possessiveness he’s never felt. Each of them come to grips with their feelings when Laurie finds herself thrust back into the exact situation she ran from in the first place. In this aspect the plot delves a little darker which was a nice segue for the plot. Everything happens so fast in these novellas it takes a minute to process the speed in which they go but there’s never a time when the writing feels stale. The author again write in dual points of view and leaves us hanging at the end. I do look forward to seeing how she ties all these novellas into a solid ending with book six. If you dig erotica, a little darker plot, angst, and cliffhangers – Riding Steele: Crossroads will work for you.

Book Review: Rooted
Rooted (Pagano Family #3) by Susan Fanetti: When her mother died, Carmen stepped into her shoes and became the woman of the family, shouldering much of the responsibility for raising her two youngest siblings and keeping the family running. Even though Joey and Rosa are now grown, she’s found it difficult to let that role go.
When Rosa graduates from college, Carmen takes her to Europe for the summer. She means the trip as not simply a gift, but a way to strengthen their bond as sisters and to help Rosa, the youngest sibling and the pampered family princess, become a more fully-realized adult. She has no intention of spending time with anyone but her sister.
Writer and widower Theo Wilde is living in Paris for several months, with the mission to write his next book. His grown sons, worried that he is too much alone, push him into the city to meet someone new. He’s not enthusiastic, but he makes a promise to try. It’s Carmen he meets.
What begins as a summer fling against the beautiful, romantic backdrop of Paris becomes something that neither of them expected, something Carmen is not prepared for. She has always placed her family first, but to be with Theo, she’ll need to stretch beyond her roots and grow.
NOTE: explicit sex, some violence.
TeriLyn's thoughts: Susan Fanetti books should be classified by their rating system. Each and every one of her stories proves to be a five star read. You can’t deny the unbelievably flawless writing of this gifted author. The plots that keep you guessing leaving you breathless are unlike any other. The characters in which you find something to relate to every time, intrigued and compelled by the motivations. They are books you won’t be able to put down from start to finish. Susan Fanetti makes romance more real than other romance author I’ve read.
It's fair to say Carmen and Theo’s story in Rooted doesn’t hail as my favorite from the Pagano family saga. There were times I distrusted Carmen and Theo both becoming increasingly angry with each of them. But the beauty of a Fanetti story proves Rooted doesn’t have to be my favorite of the series and I can love their story all the same. Reaching deep to understand their motivations, their wants and needs made me not only fall in love with their tale but more importantly – thanks to and fueled by this author’s unbelievable gift – I deeply respected their journey to each other.
With each book, Fanetti solidifies my belief that life is as much about the pain as it is the pleasure. The belief in the strength and growth from pain. The maturity. Theo Wilde stands a proud man both desirable and complex. Carmen Pagano stands a proud woman both strong and conflicted. Two beautiful, intelligent people embark on a coupling that makes limited sense to them both yet total sense to the readers. Their relationship cushions the pages with real conflict and issues. Rooted centers itself around Carmen & Theo but increases our insight into the other Pagano’s as well as some new characters helping to make the story whole. This author has this incredible way of pulling family together so while we learn of the new characters we're still in entrenched in the stories of the others.
The nuances of time, of letting go and moving on, of staying rooted combined with the faith in oneself, in their family, in their past. My god the strength in all of that. It’s breathtaking reading both poignant and beautiful each story providing a quality, a kinship, a single line that resonates fully with me as a reader making me feel even more deeply for the characters because of the feelings evoked. I’m left breathless and sated all at once.
This author wastes none of your time. She gets to the passion, she gets the conflict, she gets to the resolution all before you even realize 6 hours of your Sunday has passed. She’s ruthless with the ability to quickly rip out your heart and then delicately sew it back together.
Fanetti writes stories true to herself, to her muse, relishing on building, breaking, and building again. The depth and pain of triumph. The bliss in discovery and love. They hurt and heal at the same time. With blunt logic and poignant prose – this author captures it all. I can’t recommend this series, this author, this writing enough. Do yourself a favor and discover their greatness. Get Rooted which can be read as a standalone but I would NEVER recommend doing so as you’d miss the beauty of the compounding series.

Blurb RYAN
After two years undercover, Detective Ryan Clark is tasked to the job he’s been waiting for. Ryan, together with undercover operative, Mick Gallagher, could very well be the men responsible for bringing together the biggest drug bust in Australia’s history.
The seemingly sleepy coastal town of Fremantle, has become a hotspot for a newly formed drug syndicate, which threatens to flood the market with high-grade coke through the ports.
Settling into his new locale, scouting out the local haunts, Ryan finds himself coming back to the same coffee shop. The attraction to Blondie, the local barista, has him puzzled. He knows it’s not just one-sided.
She’s trying to keep her distance.
It only makes him want her more.
WILLOW
Willow Asher left it all behind. Not by choice.
After two long years, she’s finally getting somewhere. Willow has a busy café a stone’s throw from the beach. It’s her pride and joy, and her buxom business partner, Gabby, is the closest thing to family to speak of.
Although Willow’s past still plagues her thoughts, she’s determined to one day have her happily ever after. Just not yet.
What she doesn’t need is the complications of Mr Sexy-Brown-Eyes, who seems to be drinking more and more coffee.
She doesn’t want the questions.
She’s still trying to get her story straight.
ExcerptThe curvy redhead behind the counter warmly greets everyone like their old friends, winking and smiling, her iridescent hot pink lipstick unmissable. Her silver nametag bears the name ‘Gabby’.
“Well, it’s a good morning now,” the redhead says, her hazel eyes sizing me up when I move to the front of the line. She smirks, and readies her hand on the register. “What’ll it be, honey?”
“Large flat white, thanks.”
“That’s four dollars, please.”
I pay, and she hands me my change, her hot pink fingernails grazing my outstretched palm. The redhead slides a piece of paper across the counter and a small hand from behind the machine takes it. Apart from the noise you wouldn’t even know someone was there with the cups piled high on top.
A flash of messy blonde hair dashes out from behind the machine. “Is that take,” she says, and her jaw goes slack as her pretty eyes scan from my chest up to my face.
“Huh?” I say, leaning in closer to the counter, taking in an eyeful of her petite body, golden tanned skin against the stark whiteness of her tank top. I don’t miss the growing blush that’s spreading across her freckled cheeks either.
She shakes her head and briefly closes her eyes as she huffs out a breath. “Sorry, take-away?”
“Nah, think I might stay?” I say and nod. Yep. Definitely staying.
“Um, sure. Take a seat,” she says and turns to her colleague. “Gabs, can you give him a number?”
“Oh, honey. I’ll give this one a number alright.”
I chuckle, and take the number on a metal stand that she hands me. Blondie gives me a tickle of a smile and then returns behind the machine.
I lazily wander to the only vacant chair in the corner, and wait impatiently for blondie to deliver my coffee.
I’ve got a fuckin’ good feeling I’m gonna enjoy this assignment.

Taunted by a Sentori hunter, Brett does whatever he can to survive, even if it means embracing his dark Sentori side and earning the unwanted attention of the Sentori leaders. His life had never looked so frantic. And all the while, his true family is infecting his heart and mind.
When his heart is tied to an unexpected soul, he finds himself fighting for a future he desperately wants to live to see. It becomes clear that whatever freedoms Brett is hoping to win will not be gained without a fight. Fragile lives that had been carefully woven together will be ripped apart swiftly and easily.
Faith is betrayed.
Remorse and innocence intertwine.
Fate and chance collide to mend the tattered strands of Brett’s heart in the shocking conclusion to the Thirty Seconds To Die Series.
