Book Review & Giveaway: Play of Light
Play of Light by Debra Doxer
Publication date: December 8th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance
Synopsis:I lived in paradise, and I loved Spencer Pierce.
At fourteen, my life was perfect. The beach was my playground, and the boy who stole my heart lived just around the corner. But perfect never lasts. In one horrifying moment, I lost it all. My family was destroyed, and the boy I believed in turned his back on me. Paradise became a nightmare.
That was five years ago. Everything changed when we moved from our home by the sea. I’ve changed, and I don’t like who I’ve become. I miss the smiling, carefree beach girl who disappeared that terrible night. I want to find her again. I want to face the people we ran from so long ago. Most of all, I have to face Spencer. So I can prove that when he broke my heart, he didn’t break me.
But when I see him again, Spencer Pierce is no longer the boy from my memories. He’s now a man who could devastate me if I let him. He watches me when he thinks I’m not looking. There’s regret written on his face when he’s near. Each time I see him, my heart aches for what might have been, and I think his does too. How can I convince myself I’m over him when I suspect he never got over me?
~ This is a standalone story. ~
Lori's thoughts: I really enjoyed this story. It was different from most. I liked getting to know Spencer through the eyes of both the fourteen-year-old Sarah and nineteen-year-old Sarah. A young, impressionable girl at fourteen, with a crush on an older boy. An older boy who has deep, dark secrets with an unpleasant home life. It's a story about falling for someone you can never have ... due to extenuating circumstances. Sarah's father is a police officer. Spencer's Uncle and guardian is an enemy of Sarah's dad. Sarah's heart is broken in so many ways when she's uprooted from her neat little storybook life and taken away from everything she loves and is familiar with. When she comes back, she's not looking for Spencer. She's looking for answers so that she can get some closure on a past that haunts her.
I don't want to get into more of the story-line. I don't want to give away anything else. You'll just have to accept that it's a very good read, and you should read it yourself to find out more!

Book Review: Healer
Healer (The Healer Series #1) by B.N. Toler: "Submerged in a world of sex, danger, and vampires, will Aldo find the answers she seeks before it's too late?" HEALER There is balance in life most know nothing about. Some are put here to simply exist, while others have been placed here to ensure life. Healers such as Aldo Lawson understand the power of their gift, although at times, it seems more a curse. Upon meeting a handsome young healer named Thomas, Aldo’s life heads into a tailspin. With his arrival, Aldo’s aunt is forced to share a hard and scary truth—vampires exist. And not only do they exist, but they thirst for healer blood. Despite this new and frightening information, Aldo longs for a normal senior year. So close to achieving her goal, her world turns upside down when her aunt is murdered and Thomas disappears. Riddled with questions, she sets out to find him. Submerged in a world filled with sex and danger, Aldo hopes to find the vampires that will lead her to Thomas. When they find her first, she is forced to piece together truths, deal with her pain, and find that not everything is what it seems.
Lori's thoughts: Healer was a bit of a surprise for me. I saw several good reviews from trusted reviewers, and so I thought, why not?! When I bought the book, I wasn't sure what to expect, and I definitely did not know that it involved vampires. I'm not into books about vampires, but I stuck with it anyway.
It's a very good book, kept me invested from beginning to end. Now, I have to get the 2nd book in the series to find out what happens next.

Book Review & Giveaway: Inside Out
Inside Out (Off the Map #3) by Lia Riley: Book #3 in the OFF THE MAP series
New Adult Contemporary Romance
When Talia first moved from California to Australia to study abroad, she never dreamed she'd find the love of her life. Bran understands her like no one ever has before. And despite the numerous challenges they've faced, they've always managed to figure out how to stay together. But this time they'll face their toughest hurdle yet. Is their love strong enough to keep them together?
Teri Lyn's thoughts: **Inside Out generously provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.**
I’ve been a fan of Lia Riley’s Off the Map series from the very beginning. Fortunate enough to be approved for these books on NetGalley, following Bran and Talia through their relationship without borders has been nothing short of an adventure. Each book increasingly exceeded expectations creating change and maturity not only in the characters and plot but in this author’s excellent writing as well.
Inside Out picks up a little after where Sideswiped left us hanging. As a reader, I was immediately immersed in the story from the get go – it felt different than the first two books somehow. The intensity of the beginning of Inside Out picked up right away, the danger of each Bran and Talia’s situations, the immanence of their love yet not knowing where it was leading us all strung together by engaging writing that felt more polished and succinct. Inside Out reads from both Bran and Talia’s points of view – we’ve been given both of their minds since the beginning, a choice I still relish in. The banter between the two provides instant comedic relief in each harrowing situation making the writing that much more clever and witty. Lia Riley’s words easily lace together a fluid plot taking the reader from one simple transition to the next highlighting the effect of maturity and growth on these easy to love characters whom you’ll find hard resisting their charm and rather rooting for the success of their relationship as they discover who they are both together and apart. That distinction has been a hard lesson learned for Bran and Talia but here once they make the commitment to discover themselves through each other the trust and admiration shines making their journey that much more fun.
I’ve learned to these characters along the way just as they learned to love each other in healthy, meaningful ways. Through great writing, a truly fun dialogue and even more exciting adventure of a plot this author reminded me of the trust and respect one must hold for their own life in order to trust and respect for another. She made me believe in these characters in Inside Out in a way I hadn’t before.
If you’re a fan of adventure seeking plots, extremely fun dialogue, and a well-written new adult love story about discovery and faith even in hardships. Inside Out and the whole Off the Map series is definitely for you.

Series: The Hashtag Series #2
Author: Cambria Hebert
Release Date: January 12, 2015
Genre: New Adult College Romance
Format: Ebook and Print
Synopsis:It started with unspoken animosity. The bitter bite of jealousy. And now its full blown hate.
It was during my first football game that I first felt the first chill of hate. I looked it right in the eyes and felt its sticky tentacles reach out for me. I’d never experienced something so cold and empty before.
The effect of that look lingered, like an unspoken promise, long after it was gone.
Becoming a couple – becoming the other half of a campus celebrity wasn’t easy. I let down walls guarding my heart and he looked past my glasses and accident prone tendencies. Romeo and I are an unlikely match, a #nerd and a jock. But we made it.
And we’re happy.
Zach doesn’t want us to be happy. He wants Romeo to pay for getting him kicked out of Omega and for the night he spent in jail. He’s going to use anything and everything he can to get his revenge. Including me.
As the weather on campus grows cold and the days become dark, revenge becomes the center of someone’s life and the happiness Romeo and I worked so hard for is threatened.
I can’t help but worry that our love is going to be overshadowed by hate.

Release & Giveaway: You Were Mine
We're celebrating the release of YOU WERE MINE by New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal bestselling author Abbi Glines!
Title: You Were Mine (Rosemary Beach)Author: Abbi GlinesPublisher: Atria Books (December 2, 2014)Goodreads
Amazon | BN | Kobo | iTunes
From #1 "New York Times "bestselling author Abbi Glines comes a brand-new Rosemary Beach novel about Tripp Newark and his hidden romantic past with Bethy Lowry.
In the eyes of the wealthy playboys who frequent Kerrington Country Club in Rosemary Beach, Tripp Newark is a hero. Under pressure from his parents to become a lawyer and lead a conservative, upper-class life, Tripp disappeared from town five years ago to travel the world, forfeiting the opportunity to inherit millions. Yet few know what he was really running from...
Bethy Lowry was unraveling long before her boyfriend drowned in a riptide trying to save her after she'd had one too many drinks--again. A trailer park kid working as a cart girl among the wealthy patrons of Kerrington Country Club, Bethy has always been impressionable. But five years ago, before she earned her reputation as a hard-drinking, easy girl, she had spent a single summer with Tripp Newark that changed her life forever...
EXCERPTTripp
Present Day…
I sat on my Harley and waited for Bethy to walk out of the clubhouse. Woods had been texting me Bethy’s work schedule every two weeks, and I made sure she made it home from work safely every night. It wasn’t stalking her, exactly. It was just the only way I could remain sane.
Watching over her was all I had. If I got too close, she flipped. The last time I’d tried to talk to her, she'd started screaming. I hadn’t been able to calm her down. I was watching her lose herself slowly. And it was tearing me up.
So I followed her to work everyday, and I followed her home every night. Once she was safely in her apartment, I often sat parked across the road and watched her window until it went dark. She never looked at me, even though I wasn’t hiding the fact I was following her. There was no use in hiding it from her.
The last words she’d actually spoken to me -not screamed at me, because there'd been a lot of that- had been eighteen months ago on the beach when we'd lost Jace. My cousin, my best friend, and the love of Bethy’s life. He’d drowned saving her life when she'd wandered into the ocean drunk and got caught in a riptide. Losing him had taken a part of my soul. He’d been the little brother I never had. He’d been the good Newark heir. He’d been everything I should have been but wasn’t.
And we had loved the same girl. Although he never knew it.
Watching her pull away from life more and more each day was so damn hard. Jace wouldn’t have wanted this. He would have hated it. He loved her more than he loved himself. Seeing her like this would break his heart.
Bethy swung her long dark hair over her shoulder as she stepped out of the clubhouse. The shorts she wore had once been tight and cupped her perfect round bottom. But just like she'd lost the will to live, she’d also lost weight. Too much.
The need to hold her and help her heal was so fucking strong. But she didn’t want me. I hadn’t realized how badly she hated me until I’d returned to Rosemary Beach a little more than two years ago. I'd run like hell eight years ago from a life threatening to suffocate me. My father wanted something for me that I didn’t want, and I hadn’t been able to see my way out.
I had been eighteen years old and scared, because in three short months, one sixteen-year-old girl had become my sole concern in life. Bethy had stolen my heart the summer I met her at Rush's party. When I'd been ready to throw away the life I'd been planning for the past year in order to be with her, my father had reminded me of just how much control he had over me.
I wouldn’t have been able to keep Bethy if I'd stayed. That wasn’t the life he’d let me have. So I'd run, hoping that when I came back in two years, when she was old enough, I could take her with me. But first, I'd needed to escape.
I watched as Bethy opened the door to her old beat-up Ford Taurus and climbed inside. The stiff way she held herself and the way she kept her focus turned away from me told me she knew I was here. She expected me to be there.
Once she would have broken into the biggest, most beautiful smile in the world and run into my arms. But that was the past. I had broken that. I had broken her, and I hadn’t even known.

Book Review: You and Everything After
You and Everything After (Falling #2) by Ginger Scott: I’m that teenaged girl who has MS. You haven’t met me, but you’ve seen me around. You probably know my sister. We’re twins, and she’s the pretty one. Maybe you’ve heard about my reputation, how much I like to hook up at parties—how easy it is to get me in bed, get what you want, and forget about me after.
Forget what you think you know. I’m leaving that girl behind.
College is all about new beginnings. So from now on—I’m just Cass. And the rest…it isn’t written yet. And no one else gets to write my story for me.
--------
“Tyson Preeter doesn’t do can’t.”
That’s exactly what I want people to think when they see me. I am strong, invincible, confident, intelligent—arrogant. I’m the man who always finds a way around, over and through—until there’s nothing left. Since losing my ability to walk six years ago, I’ve relearned life. I don’t need sympathy. I don’t want charity. And I don’t do love.
It’s better this way, saves my disappointments for me, and me alone, and it saves my strength for everything I want.
But Cass Owens is about to wreck everything. She’s about to steal all of my strength away from me, because she needs it more. She’s about to break all of my rules, and break down all of my walls. She’s about to own me…completely.
And I’m about to let her.
* This is the second book in the Falling Series, and it is scheduled to release Dec. 5. Book 1, This Is Falling, is out now. Each book can be read as a standalone and will focus on a different couple.
Teri Lyn's thoughts: **You and Everything After generously provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.**
What I love about Ginger Scott telling a New Adult love story captures exactly how I think falling in love at this time in your life should happen. College represents a time in a young adults life where we’re understanding the freedom of being our own, the freedom of discovering exactly who we are, and the freedom to tweak things about ourselves to make us whole all the while finding someone who embraces the growth, someone who’s also growing. Ms. Scott takes the inevitable vulnerabilities of this shift in life and creates engaging stories of beauty and strength. The writing executed flawlessly to allow the reader a part in her world enabling us to feel each and every emotion she writes from the delicacy of her characters inabilities to the brilliance of the strength in their accomplishments.
You and Everything After, like its predecessor, showcases a hero and heroine who make an instant connection with each other based not just on mutual attraction but a kinship in each other, a likeness providing the knowledge they can help and encourage to make each other better. Its insta-friendship and fondness to where hilarious banter and chasing ensues. Tyson Preeter and Cassidy Owens become fast friends and instant supporters of each other. Mingling a bit their respective pasts to give us insight into their present helps endear these characters to the reader and encourages our support in the beauty and strength of the story. Their belief in each other, their innate need to make each other feel better, to lift each other up and provide for each other a life full of laughs and happiness makes them such an amazing couple to read. Being a witness to their world, reading each of them flourish through the rough times and the good times through both his and her first person narratives made for such a pleasurable reading experience. Plus, as a side note, any man that fosters an obsession with the bad assery of Leonardo DiCaprio gets major bonus points from me.
The secondary characters again make this book more fun, more about the importance of friends and family and the unconditional support they provide. Living on the outside of Nate and Rowe’s relationship, seeing them through Ty & Cass’s thoughts gave extra insight into book one. And the mystery of Paige intrigues the reader more than ever about her making us need her story like right now.
If you’re a New Adult romance lover, Ginger Scott writes some of the best. Perfectly balanced writing between humorous and smart wit to eloquently written sadness both triumph and tragedy make this intelligently constructed story in You and Everything After a definite must read. Ms. Scott’s writing, plots, and characters have made me a forever fan. These are stories I’ll remember and would gladly re-read. I’m beyond grateful for the opportunity to start and continue reading this great series. I cannot wait to discover what Paige’s story will bring in the third installment of Falling Series.
