Encounter with Chelsea and Hunter at the bar on this week's Book Hooks #MFRWhooks, #MFRWAuthor

Welcome to Victoria's Pages of Romance and Book Hooks. This week's 6 to 8 sentences are from my NA contemporary romance – A Guy and A Girl

Scene Set –I've jumped a bit forward in the story - Chelsea has just learned Hunter works part time in a strip club. She is returning from the Ladies room when she spots him near the bar. They talk. A person bumps Hunter and the tray of drinks spills onto him. He is dressed in black leather pants and no shirt.

Chelsea grabbed a handful of napkins from the bar and wiped off the mess. Her pulse raced as her hand slid down his chest. Hunter caught her arm as she wiped his wet, etched stomach. She blinked, looked up and said, "Oh, gee, I'm sorry. I guess I shouldn't have. But I was just trying—"He released her and said, "No, it's okay."Chelsea flinched at the annoyance in his tone.

BlurbLies, deceits and secrets - not a good way to begin a relationship.
After an ugly past forced Hunter Connolly to escape to Europe, the talented hockey player is back in North America and determined to land a position with a professional team. But he can’t hide from his past forever, especially when his beautiful classmate, Chelsea, forces him to reexamine his life. Soon, hockey is not his first priority anymore.Chelsea Henderson is a bright co-ed working towards her dream of being a professional dancer. She forms a unique friendship with one of her father’s newest recruits and would love nothing more than to take it to the next level. However, there’s just one small problem. He doesn’t know she’s his coach’s daughter.Amid the deceptions, danger lurks closer than they could ever imagine. Will fate contrive to rip the young lovers apart? Or will Hunter and Chelsea have their shot at love?

What people are saying about – A Guy and A Girl

5 Stars - What a great romance. Fast paced. Chock full of tension. Little bit of hockey Little bit of dance. Lots of love.

Robert and Stephen square off on Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday

Welcome to another weekend of Weekend Writing Warriors. My 8 sentence snippet this week is from my first release from my NA contemporary romance – Dancing in Circles- Book 1 of Circles Trilogy.
Scene Set -

One step closer to the fight. Can Robert talk his way out of it? (Yes this has been edited to make it fit.)

Stephan cast his gaze up and down Robert and sneered.Robert lowered his unshaken hand. Ok, so not only are ya an idiot for tryin' to take me on, you're a f'in' jerk too."So what's your problem with me?" Stephan glared at his opponent and voiced his complaint, "Tricia was supposed to be going with me to the dance." Robert checked his distance. "So a guy from Shore jacked your girl. Ooh, that's gotta sting that Westland pride, but, as they say, may the best man win."

Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.

What people are saying about Dancing in Circles5 stars  - Julie I liked, but Robert, loved that guy. He's thrown some insurmountable circumstances to overcome, but he manages a way around it all quite nicely. While he may be the 'bad boy', he still has a heart of gold. The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.
5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader. "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

A Kiss from Dancing in Circles on Book Boyfriend Cafe

');
This week's kiss is from Dancing in Circles - Book 1 - Circles Trilogy. It's the first time Julie and Robert kiss.

Scene set - Julie and Robert had lunch in a park. Robert fell asleep using Julie's legs as a pillow. Her friends find them and announced lunch is almost over.

Tricia checked her watch. "Fifteen more minutes of freedom.""Guess I should wake him up. Robert." Julie shook his shoulder.Robert grunted, but settled back into sleep."Kiss him." Heather giggled. As Julie bent over, Robert unfolded his arms, wrapped them around her and pulled her close. The touch of his lips on hers aroused a fire deep within her. She wanted to embrace him, but her position was too awkward. She broke the kiss off with a gasp then straightened up. Hearing her friends' giggles, Julie suspected she was as red as a Valentine's Day heart.Robert yawned and sat up."Lunch is just about over." Julie picked at a piece of grass.Robert stood then offered his hand to help Julie stand. He held her back as the others crossed the park towards the school. He placed a finger under her chin and lifted it. "I liked it."Julie lowered her gaze. She wished she could tell him she liked the kiss, but she lacked the courage. "We'd better go or we'll be late."Those were the last words she'd say to him for six days.

Space on this week's Chit Chat on Victoria's Pages of Romance

Chit Chat 8SPACEDid any of you then start saying – The final frontier – these are the voyages of the Starship Enterprise --????
Because I did. Yes, I'm a Trekkie. **Make's Vulcan greeting with hand**
Space has always fascinated me. It tends to break my brain trying to wrap my head around the concepts of how big it is and black holes or the end of the universe.
Several years ago I joined a group that helped identify galaxies. It aided a scientific research group and I really enjoyed it. Spent several hours each day clicking on whether it was a galaxy or not, a barred one or a spiralled one, how many arms…absolutely fascinating.
But what got me the most where the photos. Space is beautiful.
If given the chance would I go? Yes. In a heartbeat. Did I submit my name for the voyage to Mars? No, I have a family and leaving them and never returning to my home planet would not be something I could mentally deal with. I admire those who have been selected to the final 100 for their courage and sense of adventure.
I'll just satisfy myself with looking up at the stars and dreaming.

If given the chance - would you go into space?

Chelsea's reaction to Kendall's comment on this week's Book Hooks

Welcome to Victoria's Pages of Romance and Book Hooks. This week's 6 to 8 sentences are from my NA contemporary romance – A Guy and A Girl

Scene Set –Chelsea and her friend Kendall are at a strip club. Hunter, a classmate and love interest to Chelsea, is their waiter. Kendall has announced that she is going to take Hunter home!

A pang of jealousy mixed with anger shot through Chelsea. She bit her lip to keep from blurting out, "He's my friend." She had no claim on Hunter. They weren't dating. Chelsea hoped the sexy, blond stripper Kendall liked would keep her thoughts away from Hunter. Kendall grabbed Chelsea's arm. "Isn't that the sexiest thing you've ever seen? That body of his...oh my."

Book Blitz for K.C.Finn's The Poison Sky

 photo The-Poison-Sky-Blitz-Banner.png photo The-Poison-Sky.jpg
Title:  The Poison SkySeries:  The SYNSK SeriesAuthor:  K.C. FinnPublished:  February 24th, 2015 Publisher:  Clean Teen PublishingGenre:  YA Psychic Historical RomanceContent Warning:  Mild ViolenceRecommended Age:  13+ Synopsis:  He delivered my sentence with the gusto of a father revealing a special birthday treat to his child. I received the news as swiftly as a guillotine dropping towards a damned man’s neck. In 1959, a heavily pregnant Kit Haugen seeks refuge in a bedroom at her grandmother’s old hotel, The Sand Drifts Inn. There, she finds a battered, old diary, containing a story long forgotten. It is the tale of her grandfather, Reggie Arkwright, a psychic soldier whose talents were put to use in the First World War. Though Kit has always thought of her grandfather as a hero, she is about to discover the horrifying truth of life and war in 1915.Set during the battles of Ypres on the Belgian front lines, this novella contributes an extra slice of family history to K.C. Finn’s best-selling Synsk saga. The unspoken truth of the Great War waits for those who, like Kit, are brave enough to discover it.
Amazon | GoodReadsExcerpt:
I was certain that something had gone terribly wrong, because the first thing I heard was a deafening, thunderous bang. Flashes of brown and black shot past my vision that convinced me I must have simply fallen off my bed in the barracks, but after I tried to move, I realised that I didn’t have the ability to do so. The hands in front of my eyes confirmed that I had successfully travelled to someone else’s head; they were hands coated in skin as black as coal. The man whose head I occupied spoke in French when he looked up, but I didn’t miss the urgency and strain in his tone. His vision was obscured by mud and tears, which he began to wipe away with the mustard-coloured sleeve of his uniform.
About the Author: Born in South Wales to Raymond and Jennifer Finn, Kimberley Charlotte Elisabeth Finn (known to readers as K.C., otherwise it’d be too much of a mouthful) was one of those corny little kids who always wanted to be a writer. She was also incredibly stubborn, and so has finally achieved that dream in 2013 with the release of her first three novellas in the four-part Caecilius Rex saga, the time travel adventure The Secret Star and her new urban fantasy epic The Book Of Shade. As a sufferer with the medical condition M.E./C.F.S., Kim works part time as a private tutor and a teacher of creative writing, devoting the remainder of her time to writing novels and studying for an MA in Education and Linguistics. AUTHOR INTERVIEWS Some of the authors have been kind enough to answer a few questions. “Most collections are from just one author, or one publisher, or at least in the same genre, whether that’s historical romance or detective fiction. But these seven books are very different. [How] do you think the mix [of genres] will work for readers?” Jane Davis:
I think it’s an incredibly strong set of books without borders. I don’t insult my readers by assuming they only like to read one type of fiction. Visit any book club and you’ll see that readers welcome variety. We won’t be insulting any readers with Outside the Box. Within this set of seven novels, we offer the full spectrum from light (although never frothy) to darker, more haunting reads that delve into deeper psychological territory. We hope to take some readers outside their comfort zones, perhaps tempt them to take risks on book that they might have otherwise overlooked.

“What made you self-publish instead of going down the traditional route?” Joni Rodgers:
I enjoy working with Big Five publishers.  I was mentored by a string of stellar editors, and I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities I’ve enjoyed in the corporate publishing world, but I don’t want my fiction to be guided by the corporate values system. For me, every novel is a soul project; I want 100% of the creative control.

Why do you write? Roz Morris:
I don't know when writing first got into me, but I became aware at quite a young age that I was supposedly disposed to it. School teachers commented that I was good with words. They also said, less appreciatively, that I had an overactive imagination. My grandfather died and left a skinny portable typewriter with no letter T. From ha day my bedroom resounded to furious  hunder. By backspacing I overlaid an l on an r, and then I was rattling away - though my oeuvre at the time was science fiction, because I was at a girls’ school and sci-fi annoyed everybody. I probably liked that more than the sci-fi itself. At the end of the summer term that year, there was a party. My English Lit teacher cornered me, wanting to talk about the essay I'd done in the recent exams. I shuddered, wondering what crassness I'd committed, as I’d amused myself by riffing about the character of the Wife of Bath. 'You should write novels,' she said and fixed me with a look that said I should take her very seriously. It affected me more than I could say. Until that moment, I was the peculiar odd one out - shy, bookish, never noticed much. This statement, from such a person, was like receiving a vocation.  So, the page is my playground. What sends me there? Good writing - any beautifully executed novel fills me with the urge to make. I can’t breathe without getting ideas. Life bombards me with them. I’m always mishearing names or remarks and sometimes they won’t go away, like grit in the eye. Some are like moments in dreams, potent with meaning but obscure. They might stay vague for years. I have one novel idea that is a cover, a title and a location and two years on I still don’t know what it is or how to use it. Blink, though, and it’s back. I’m always asking ‘why’. That’s how I had the idea for My Memories of a Future Life. If you can visit past lives through hypnosis, why can’t you visit future ones? Why do I ask why? I don’t know. I just do.
Why did you get together for this compilation?
Kathleen Jones:
I’m loving the idea of being with a group of women writers whose work I like and respect. I’m also intrigued by the contrasts and resonances that are set up when you put seven very different books and authors together. You know your work is going to be read by readers who wouldn’t normally have bought it. There’s an edge to that - are they going to like it? Hate it? It’s very exciting.

Robert meets his challenger on this week's Weekend Writing Warrior

Welcome to another weekend of Weekend Writing Warriors. My 8 sentence snippet this week is from my first release from my NA contemporary romance – Dancing in Circles- Book 1 of Circles Trilogy.
Scene Set -Robert - from North Shore - has been challenged by a Westland classmate.

A group of Westland students collected in the student parking lot, semi circling the challenger. Many had their cell phones set to record the event. With luck, Stephan's trouncing of the North Shore punk would be on YouTube by lunchtime.Robert stood before his opponent. "Common courtesy demands that we introduce ourselves." He extended his hand. "Robert Holiday. And you are?"

An excerpt from Dancing in Circles on Book Boyfriend Cafe

From Dancing in Circles - book 1 of Circles Trilogy - Robert was removed from class by the police. Julie races out to defend him. They return to class.

Robert still leaned on the wall. "Can I move?" The officer grunted. Assuming that was a yes, Robert turned to face Julie. "Don't worry about this. I've been frisked before. At least this time I wasn't slammed against the wall first.""He agreed to a search. To prove there's no knife," said Mr. Morris.Robert started to speak, but Julie interrupted him with a flick of her hand. "No I've got to say this. Do you know what he's gone through? Just because he lost his temper." Her cheeks flushed as she could feel the heat of her nerves and indignation rising. She clenched and unclenched her hands, trying to calm herself. "He's been humiliated twice. At least. One, he was hauled out of class by police officers and two, forced to agree to a search. All for nothing. There's no knife, is there?"She glared at both officers. "He has rights, and I'd say every one of them's been violated. Does anyone care? No. And why not? Because he's North Shore. Well, who died and made us Westlanders God?"Mr. Parks put a hand on Julie's arm. "She's right, you know."Mr. Morris looked at Robert who shrugged. "I expected it. I didn't wanna come here. I got sent. This school has the worst reputation for friendliness. If ya ain't Westland, you're nothin'."Released from the search, Robert and Julie walked back to class. With one hand on the door, he glanced at her and smiled. "Thanks." His eyes sparkled with gratitude.A couplet from a poem shot through Julie's mind.Thine eyes fill me with wanton lust.Thine arms doth cause me to surrender. He held the door open for her. There was a gasp of disbelief as he entered. "Ta da. The innocent has returned." He snapped his fingers and bounced to his personal beat.

Chit Chat 7 on Victoria's Pages of Romance

Happy Chinese New Year
The first day of the 2015 Chinese New Year is on February 19, 2015 in China's time zone. This day is a new moon day, and is the first day of the first Chinese lunar month in the Chinese Lunar Calendar system. The Year 2015 is the 4712th Chinese year and is the year of Sheep. Sheep are one of Chinese lucky animals. Sheep don't have to do the farm work. They have mild personalities and are friendly to humans. From what I have determined

The Chinese zodiac animals are representative of the people born in each Chinese year. The 12 animals have different personality traits, likes and dislikes, which all people born under the same year share.
