A last look at Circles Interlocked - Victoria Adams' contemporary romance on Book Hooks #MFRWAuthor, #MFRWhooks
This blog is closing March 21 - so this is the last look at the 3rd book in my Circles Trilogy - Circles Interlocked. It'll be a long snippet as it's the last one
Scene set - Julie gets a letter on her wedding day.
Julie's mother handed a crinkled envelope to Julie. "Robert gave it to me before he went to Vincent's to get you. He didn't ask for it back. He probably forgot about it. I thought you might like to read it." With a loving motherly hug, Mrs. Anderson wished her daughter happiness in her marriage and said it was time the mother of the bride made her entrance.Julie's fingers trembled as she opened the envelope.Hi,If you're reading this then something went wrong and I guess I'm dead. Sorry. But that's only one more screw up to add to my list. I've messed things up a lot in this relationship. Why do people who should never be together fall in love?I should've never met you and I certainly shouldn't have fallen in love with you, but I did. I never stopped loving you once in the years we were apart. Telling you this now seems a little stupid, I guess I should've done it before I let you go back to Langston.A long time ago - in high school - we had to write an assignment for our last English essay. You and I had broken up and everyone was mad at me for being such a bastard. For my essay, I handed in a poem. Yea me, I wrote a poem. Mrs. Wolmsely liked it - hell, she gave me an "A".She wanted to read it in class. She was hoping you'd forgive me. Which is exactly what I didn't want. I wanted you to go dance. I wanted you to live out your dream. I'm sorry I screwed up on that. Anyway, this is my poem. I've revised it a bit. It was only two verses long then. I wanted to call it LOVE SUCKS, but I didn't think Mrs. Wolmsely would like that. She possessed my being -Gave me a future -A life. Our souls intertwined -Fantasies fulfilled
ButReality intruded. One's dream realizedOne's destroyed.A heart brokenThe pain -Where a heart should beA void existed. The expanse of daysBecame years.A dream withered.
By chance -Two faces meetAnd smileLips touchLove strikes once more.
My being possessed -Desires fulfilled -A dream revived.A futureWith Love!
I don't know why I told you all this. All I wanted to do is tell you I love you, but it seemed cold and impersonal on paper. Please don't grieve for me. Remember our good times together. Forget the bad stuff. Have a happy life, full of love and joy. With Love,RShe caressed the line "With Love." She'd chosen the correct inscription. She'd chosen the correct man.
Circles Interlocked - Having been betrayed by the man she assumed she was destined to be with forever; Julie Anderson slapped Robert Holiday in an angry ending to their brief love affair. Heartbroken that her love affair didn't end with the fairy tale Happily Ever After, Julie leaves town to pursue her dream of being a dancer. As fate has a curious sense of humor, eight years later, they wake up in bed together. Now it is up to love to fix what time cannot mend.Amazon Print

Denise Deegan's historical fiction - Through the Barricades #historical #fiction
THROUGH THE BARRICADES BY DENISE DEEGAN
Genre: Historical FictionRelease Date: 8th December 2016-12-08She was willing to sacrifice everything for her country. He was willing to sacrifice everything for her.
‘Make a difference in the world,’ are the last words Maggie Gilligan’s father ever says to her. They form a legacy that she carries in her heart, years later when, at the age of fifteen, she tries to better the lives of Dublin’s largely forgotten poor.
‘Don’t go getting distracted, now,’ is what Daniel Healy’s father says to him after seeing him talking to the same Maggie Gilligan. Daniel is more than distracted. He is intrigued. Never has he met anyone as dismissive, argumentative… as downright infuriating.
A dare from Maggie is all it takes. Daniel volunteers at a food kitchen. There, his eyes are opened to the plight of the poor. It is 1913 and Dublin’s striking workers have been locked out of their jobs. Their families are going hungry. Daniel and Maggie do what they can. Soon, however, Maggie realises that the only way to make a difference is to take up arms.
The story of Maggie and Daniel is one of friendship, love, war and revolution, of two people who are prepared to sacrifice their lives: Maggie for her country, Daniel for Maggie. Their mutual sacrifices put them on opposite sides of a revolution. Can their love survive?
EXCERPT Prologue1906Maggie woke coughing. It was dark but there was something other than darkness in the air, something that climbed into her mouth, scratched at her throat and stole her breath. It made her eyes sting and tear. And it made her heart stall. Flames burst through the doorway like dragon breath. Maggie tried to scream but more coughs came, one after the other, after the other. She backed up in the bed, eyes wide, as the blaze began to engulf the room. She thought of her family, asleep in their beds. She had to waken them – with something other than her voice. She hurried from her bed, peering through flame-lit smoke in search of her jug and washbasin. Reaching them, she flung water in the direction of the fire and began to slam enamel against enamel, fast and loud. She had to back away as flames lapped and roared and licked at her. But she kept on slamming. Her arms grew tired. Her breath began to fail her. And she felt the heavy pull of sleep. She might have given in had she been alone in the house. But there was her father. There was her mother. There was Tom. And there was David. She could not give up. Then like a miracle of black shadow, her father burst through the flames, his head tossing and turning. His frenzied gaze met hers.‘Maggie!’She began to cry with relief but relief changed to guilt as she realised that she had only drawn him further into the fire.‘No! You were meant to take the stairs. You were meant to-’ ‘It’s all right, Maggie Mae. It’s all right,’ he said, hurrying to her. He scooped her up and held her tight as he carried her away from a heat that burned without touching. She felt cool air on her back as he opened the window. Wind rushed in, blowing the drapes aside. The flames roared louder, rose higher. But her father only looked out at the night sky. And down. ‘Missus O’Neill! I’m dropping Maggie down to you!’ he called. ‘Catch her now, mind. Catch my little girl.’ Then he looked deep into Maggie’s eyes. ‘Missus O’Neill is down below with her arms out for you. I’m going to drop you down to her.’‘Will she catch you too?’But he just smiled and kissed her forehead. ‘Make a difference in the world, Maggie.’The sadness in his eyes filled her with a new terror. ‘But you’re coming too?’He smiled once more. ‘I am, as soon as I get the others out. Now keep your eyes on mine, Maggie Mae. Keep your eyes on mine all the way down.’

Audio Release of R.E. Hargrave's romance - Sugar and Spice #romance #audio
SUGAR & SPICEby R.E. HargraveGenre:Romance
Lacey Harrison has been dealt an unexpected hand in life: being a single mom. With her father's help and that of the residents at Royal Hills Nursing Home, she thrives and goes on to become a successful baker. She is content with her life but knows that she and her daughter Candy are missing something. Will things change for the better when Trent Childress moves into town and adds some spice to her sugar?
Before I knew it, my kitchen had been taken over once again. Now I was standing next to a table decorated with bunnies and eggs decorated in bright colors, peddling our wares. Candy had run off, saying she wanted to find someone that, “I had to meet.” I was hoping she’d moved past the mysterious Coach C to someone closer to her own age.“Enjoy, Steve,” I said, thanking Coach Rose’s husband for his purchase of two dozen honey carrot cookies. He stepped away, revealing my daughter, who had her hand latched onto the arm of my Valentine’s Day egg disaster: Trent.
“Lacey,” he murmured, his eyes meeting mine and igniting a tugging feeling inside of my stomach that crept lower the longer he looked at me.
“Hey, Trent,” I choked a bit on his name. “Gonna support the school again?” His spreading grin changed the tug to a full on twist and pull, and I lost my breath.
“Least I can do, seeing how they employ me and all,” he answered with a cheeky tone.
“Coach C?” I hazarded a guess, my nose scrunching up.
“Yes, ma’am. Nice to meet ya,” he extended his hand. “Your daughter is a delight to have in class,” he teased with a roll of his eyes. I laughed.
“I bet. I’m guessing you're aware of a certain crush?” I asked, leaning in so that gossipy ears could not overhear me, though our positioning itself was bound to start gossip.
He turned in toward me, his breath a warm whisper on my cheek as he replied, “Yes, I am, and I’m handling it by openly flirting with her mother.”

One final look at Victoria Adams' Circles Divided on MFRW's Book Hooks #MFRWAuthor, #MFRWhooks,
I am closing this blog down in about a month - so one last look at book 2 of Circles Trilogy - Circles Divided. It's a long snippet, but since it's the last - I'm going for it.
Scene set - Julie and Robert became lovers. He discovers she's refusing to chase her dream dance career so he "betrays" her.
Julie's parents, sibling and friends and ex-boyfriend sat at a booth in the Observation Deck Lounge and ordered drinks. "Robert, try and believe that someday she will understand what you did for her," said Mr. Anderson."And then she'll come back to you." Mrs. Anderson patted his arm.Robert gritted his teeth and gripped his Coke.Tricia leaned close to Francine. "What was in the letter?""The truth." She lowered her voice. "I couldn't let her leave without her understanding. It's not fair to Robert.""Think she'll forgive him."Francine sipped her drink. "There's nothing to forgive. He pushed her away so she'd go dance. He still loves her."Tricia scooted her chair to the left and whispered to Jennifer what she'd just learned. The conversation around the table focused on Julie. The only one who didn't speak was Robert, he kept glancing at his watch."There's a space by the window and it should be time for Julie's plane to depart." Mr. Anderson pointed.Robert stood away from the group. Francine stepped close. "Need a friend?" She put her arm around his waist and together they watched while the plane taxied to the runway and rolled. As it lifted into the air, whispers of goodbye and good luck could be heard. Robert silently screamed. Why didn't you remember I said I would always love you!"Robert," Trish turned to face him. "Now will you let us hear the poem you wrote for English?"He watched the plane disappear into the clouds. His sadness fading as a numbness filled the void. He remembered the first time he saw Julie, the first time they spoke, touched, kissed and made love. Long ago, he'd told Paul he didn't dream anymore. He'd lied. Julie was his dream. Memories of her would keep him warm on cold nights and give him comfort when he was alone. With a silent wish that one day one dream might come true, he recited from a sad heart:She possessed my being,Gave me a futureA life. Our souls intertwinedFantasies fulfilledButReality intruded. One's dream realizedAnother's destroyedA heart brokenThe pain -

A visit by Daryl Devore to my blog or in otherwords a visit by me. #erotic #romance #penname
So I'm letting the cat out of the bag for the six people on the planet who don't know this - but I - Victoria Adams am also Daryl Devore. My Devore persona is an erotic romance writer. My Adams persona is a contemporary romance writer. So today I am visiting myself.
How did this come about? I - long ago - had an editor - hired by my publisher - who was brutal. Her demeaning comments almost made me quit. What it did do was make me hide my babies.
The contemporary romances I wrote I swore I would not let her near. So I indie pubbed.
I have kept the two names apart even though they both are members of some of the same Triberr tribes and some Yahoo groups. Some friends know the dual identity - critique partners - and some who needed to be let in on the secret because of some issue. And the occasional ones who figured it out because I slipped and said the same thing on a blog as 2 different people.
But now it doesn't matter as I am retiring Victoria Adams. It's been a hard haul trying to keep 2 careers going. Double blog posts - 2 FB pages - 2 twitter accts and so on.
To those of you who can do this dual personality - kudos to you and I wish you all the writing luck in the world. Me - I am easing back and focusing on two things - 1. myself and family and 2. 1 writer pen name.

To save Darien's life his brother asks, "Can you walk in high heels?"Erika Bailey, owner/manager of a drag queen club in Bangkok, Thailand has happily settled into all aspects of her new life, except for her lack of a love life. When a new diva auditions, Erika is bewildered over her instant attraction to the blond God, Apollo.Darien Scott is on vacation after a world tour and mistakenly figures the safest place to be is at The Black Dragon with the head of a Triad. When the club is hit, Darien is the only person to get out alive. Now he's running from the police and a Triad. Mistake number 1.Disguised as a drag queen, he's hired by Erika, but falls hard for his new boss, then struggles with not coming clean with her. Mistake number 2.Can he fix his mistakes and find a life filled with love or is he headed straight for mistake number 3?
Excerpt A wave of nausea swarmed over her. The room spun. A cold sweat beaded on her forehead. Why her? Inhaling and exhaling deep cleansing breaths, she calmed the rolling sea in her stomach and lowered her blood pressure.
They'd been following her. She remembered the day the elevator button to her apartment floor had been pushed, but no one else got off when she did. She'd shrugged it off at the time as someone hitting the wrong button. Then there was the bone-chilling feeling that someone had searched her cell phone and her office. What could they hope to discover in her cell phone? That she liked Taylor Swift to AC/DC, and took a lot of selfies. Her office had many more secrets–employee addresses, bank account receipts and more. It made no sense that they attacked her apartment.
Erika placed her hands on the side of her head. Nothing made sense. The confusion just spun around in circles. They wanted something. But she'd hidden nothing. As she pressed her hands against her head in a vain attempt to silence the mantra–What are they looking for? Why me?–tears flowed down her cheeks. Her breath shortened to gasps as her chest heaved. A black ache filled her soul. Why had she lashed out at Apollo? He was right. She'd assumed he was gay. He was Brian's friend. That made him gay. She was angry at him for not being gay, and even angrier at his exiting the room. She wanted to yell and scream, but he'd stunned her by saying, "I don't want to damage what we have so far."Joy and elation tried to well up inside her, but the anger, pain, frustration and fear of the past day demolished any chance of a happy thought. She threw herself forward, screaming into the mattress and pounding her hands on the comforter. Rage controlled her. How could they? They violated her life. She shrieked and howled, releasing the anger. Fists clenched, she hammered them onto the bed with each thought. Why me? Why me? Why me?A warm hand settled in the middle of her back and rubbed small circles. She lifted her face. Through the blurriness caused by the tears, she stared up at Apollo's blue eyes. They were filled with concern. Concern for her.She launched her herself forward, into his arms, knocking him back onto the bed, trying to speak through her sobs, but her sentence was garbled. He said nothing, just held her tight and rubbed her back.Like someone who loved her would do.

Book 1 from the Crossing Hearts series - Kimberly Kincaid's Crossing Hearts #contemporary #romance
CROSSING HEARTSCross Creek series, book 1by Kimberly Kincaid
Genre:Contemporary Romance
Hunter Cross has no regrets. Having left his football prospects behind the day he graduated high school, he’s happy to carry out his legacy on his family’s farm in the foothills of the Shenandoah. But when a shoulder injury puts him face-to-face with the high school sweetheart who abandoned town—and him—twelve years ago, Hunter’s simple life gets a lot more complicated.
Emerson Montgomery has secrets. Refusing to divulge why she left her job as a hotshot physical therapist for a pro football team, she struggles to readjust to life in the hometown she left behind. The more time she spends with Hunter, the more Emerson finds herself wanting to trust him with the diagnosis of MS that has turned her world upside down.
But revealing secrets comes with a price. Can Hunter and Emerson rekindle their past love? Or will the realities of the present—and the trust that goes with them—burn that bridge for good?
(The setup is that heroine Emerson has just come back to her hometown of Millhaven after twelve years and is working as a physical therapist)
"I’ve got a patient for you, so I thought I’d pop over to see if you have an opening today," Doc Sanders said.Emerson thought of her schedule, complete with the tumbleweeds blowing through its wide- open spaces, and bit back the urge to laugh with both excitement and irony. “I’m sure I can fit someone in. What’s the injury?”
“Rotator cuff. X-rays and MRI are complete, and Dr. Norris, the orthopedist in Camden Valley, ordered PT. But the patient is local, so I figured if you could take him, it’d be a win-win.”
“Of course.” An odd sensation plucked up Emerson’s spine at the long-buried memory of a blue-eyed high school boy with his arm in a sling and a smile that could melt her like butter in a cast-iron skillet. “Um, my schedule is pretty flexible. What time did he want to come in?”
“Actually, he’s a little anxious to get started, so he came directly here from the ortho’s office . . .”
Doc Sanders turned toward the hallway leading to her waiting room, where a figure had appeared in the doorframe. Emerson blinked, trying to get her brain to reconcile the free-flowing confusion between the boy in her memory and the man standing in front of her. The gray-blue eyes were the same, although a tiny bit more weathered around the edges, and weirdly, the sling was also a match. But the person staring back at her was a man, with rough edges and sex appeal for days, full of hard angles and harder muscles under his jeans and T-shirt . . .
Hunter Cross.
Emerson stood with her feet anchored to the linoleum, unable to move or speak or even breathe. For the smallest scrap of a second, she tumbled back in time, her heart pounding so hard beneath her crisp white button-down that surely the traitorous thing would jump right out of her chest.
A blanket of stars littering the August sky . . . the warm weight of Hunter’s varsity jacket wrapped around her shoulders . . . the warmer fit of his mouth on hers as the breeze carried his whispers, full of hope . . . “Don’t go to New York. Stay with me, Em. Marry me and stay here in Millhaven where we’ll always have this, just you and me . . .”
“Emerson? What . . . what the hell are you doing here?”
The deeper, definitely more rugged-around-the-edges version of his voice tipped the scales of her realization all the way into the present. She needed to say something, she knew, she knew, but her mouth had gone so dry that she’d have better luck rocketing to the moon in a paper airplane right now.
“I work here,” Emerson finally managed, the truth of the words—of what they meant—delivering her back to reality with a hard snap. She hadn’t returned to Millhaven for a jaunt down memory lane. Hell, she’d only come back when her process of elimination had dead-ended in total despair. She was here for one thing, and one thing only. To bury herself in as much work as her body would allow.
Even if her first client probably hated her guts.

When she's not sitting cross-legged in an ancient desk chair known as "The Pleather Bomber", she can be found practicing obscene amounts of yoga, whipping up anything from enchiladas to éclairs in her kitchen, or curled up with her nose in a book. Kimberly is a USA Today best-selling author and 2016 and 2015 RWA RITA finalist who lives (and writes!) by the mantra that food is love. She resides in Virginia with her wildly patient husband and their three daughters.Facebook ✯ Website ✯ Twitter ✯ Goodreads ✯ Amazon ✯ Pinterest ✯ Instagram
