Chit Chat 5 Goes Wild #VAchitchat
Chit Chat 5
Since I'm on sort of a nature theme these past few posts and a N.C. thing, I'm going to add another of my favourite places in N.C. that isn't the beach. It's actually a sad thing that this places needs to exist and in the same breath, the people who work and volunteer there are destined for a gold star in heaven. What am I talking about?
Carolina Tiger Rescue
My family and I went on the tour. The animals are rescues and some from hideous places. Some of the animals are in massive enclosures, but are not part of the tour. They have been so traumatized by humans that the Rescue ensures there is minimal contact between them and humans.
It was twilight when we went and the male lions started to roar. The tigers snarled back. What a moving experience. The power in those voices.
Here are a few of my photos.
Such a handsome face.
Check out those fangs!
Majestic
There have several other kinds of cats and other animals that need rescuing.
Ever feel like you're being watched?
If you are in NC, the Tiger Rescue is in Pittsboro and well worth visiting.

Scene snippet from A Guy and A Girl on this week's Book Hooks #MFRWhooks, #MFRWAuthor
Here's hoping the linky thing worked this week. Fingers crossed it's above this line.So - on with this week's Book Hook.
Scene set - Chelsea's best friend, Kendall, brought her to a local strip club to see see something exciting - it's been labelled better than a dancer's butt.
Chelsea peered through the dimness, trying to get a glimpse of the waiter. For a moment, the spotlight shone on the etched muscles of his back. The blonde seated closest to him slithered up the side of his body. Her hand ran down his back, fingers rippling over his muscles and she planted that hand on his butt and pulled him closer."Woo-hoo, it's the cowboy," shouted Bridgette as she pounded her hand on Chelsea's arm.Chelsea turned her attention back to the stage and watched the gyrating ranch hand remove his chaps in one swift motion. A deep voice distracted her attention. "Good evening, ladies. What would you like...to drink?"
Lies, deceits and secrets - not a good way to begin a relationship.
After an ugly past forced Hunter Connolly to escape to Europe, the talented hockey player is back in North America and determined to land a position with a professional team. But he can’t hide from his past forever, especially when his beautiful classmate, Chelsea, forces him to reexamine his life. Soon, hockey is not his first priority anymore.
Chelsea Henderson is a bright co-ed working towards her dream of being a professional dancer. She forms a unique friendship with one of her father’s newest recruits and would love nothing more than to take it to the next level. However, there’s just one small problem. He doesn’t know she’s his coach’s daughter.Amid the deceptions, danger lurks closer than they could ever imagine. Will fate contrive to rip the young lovers apart? Latest from Chris T. Kat - Bratty Angel
Buy links:http://www.extasybooks.com/chris-t-ka... Books: Blurb:A bratty angel…
First Patrick is accosted by a hellhound with a yen for fries and ketchup. Then he encounters a beautiful, but bratty angel who doesn’t seem to understand the concept of ‘no’… or personal space. Not to mention he demands Patrick pleasure him, which Patrick refuses to do. So why does Patrick feel a connection to this unruly seraphim? And why can’t he forget him?
Two weeks later, the brat is back, making more demands. But Patrick makes it clear he doesn’t do demands. That should be the end of it, right? Or not… Maybe there’s more to this bratty angel than meets the eye. If Patrick has the patience to get past his bratty ways.
Excerpt:Patrick rounded the corner fast, almost too fast. He barely kept his balance, groaning when his left knee twisted, reminding him that his ability to outrun anyone or anything had taken a turn for the worse. If that damn thing he'd only snatched a brief glimpse of got him, he'd be mauled and killed. The huge, nightmarish thing panted as it chased after him, gusts of his surprisingly clean-smelling breath wafting to him. As Patrick raced through the deserted streets—because who the hell took a shortcut at this time of the night—he searched for a hiding spot. A fire ladder would work too, or whatever. Anything really, so he could put a safe distance between himself and the grotesque creature. He could have avoided all of this but, damn him, he'd indulged in his human body's desire for junk food. Next time he was going to order his food in—if he lived long enough.Patrick's lungs burned, and his leg muscles screamed bloody murder at him. Fuck the universe for rendering him incapable of flying. He’d been trapped in this human body for twenty-three years already, and no one would ever think he'd once been strong and—best not to go there. Nothing good ever came of his memories.Patrick stumbled, and a hot gust of air tickled his neck. He plunged face forward to the ground, all air rushing out in one short pained gasp. Reflexively he put his hands behind his head to protect his vulnerable neck. The freaking thing growled and yanked at the bag containing Patrick's junk food. Patrick yelped when the bag tore open, spilling its contents all over.Curled up on the ground, Patrick peeked over his shoulder when a chuckle drew his attention. Someone hunkered down next to him before gentle fingers pried the last string of the bag from his hand. Patrick gritted his teeth, wishing he was in possession of his power instead of lying there, almost whimpering in fear.“Don't worry, he's not malicious. He just wants your fries,” a soft, melodious voice informed him. The fries-loving beast growled, sending goose bumps up Patrick's spine. The voice added, “Right. He wants your fries and your ketchup. You see, the ketchup is majorly important.”The person who'd spoken to him withdrew, and the creature's paws clicked on the ground as it followed the voice. Whoever it was rustled the wraps of his food and talked soothingly to the yipping beast. Carefully and slowly, Patrick turned on his side to take a look. His heart thumped painfully hard against his ribcage, almost causing it to burst. In the corner of the badly lit alley crouched something that seemed to be a mix between a large dog and a wolf, but the size of a pony. That wasn't even the strangest characteristic of the beast. No, the strangest characteristic was the dark brown, folded wings on the beast's back. That couldn't be!Patrick's gaze traveled to the hands that dumped his fries on the torn bag, generously spreading ketchup all over them. The beast licked the hand in a grateful gesture before it dug into the food.Patrick's breath caught when he observed the naked man who knelt next to the creature. The man's face was beautiful, no doubt about that. Patrick's gaze slid along a slender throat, finely toned shoulders, and a slight frame. A white, feathery wing covered the man's crotch. An angel.

Amanda Sington-Williams and her psychological suspense stry - Just Two Weeks
JUST TWO WEEKS BY AMANDA SINGTON-WILLIAMS
After being made redundant from a seemingly secure job Jolene Carr takes a two week break in the sun. On the first day she meets Raquel, another hotel guest. Little does she realise how this apparently innocent acquaintance will lead to terrible and lasting consequences. After a frightening incident she hits a conspiracy of silence from the locals and over the rest of the holiday she feels herself slipping into a vortex of fear. Back home, the nightmare continues and she realises that Raquel is stalking her. Her hippie mother and her partner Mark tell her she is imagining it all. All certainties, even about relationships, become fluid and treacherous as her past begins to unravel. If it wasn't for Rob, her ex-lover who Jolene thinks has his own agenda, she would be left to cope on her own.
How much fear and betrayal can one person take?

Dancing in Circles on Weekend Writing Warriors #8sunday
Welcome to another weekend of Weekend Writing Warriors. My 8 sentence snippet this week is from my first release from my NA contemporary romance – Dancing in Circles- Book 1 of Circles Trilogy.
Scene Set -The next day after the problem in Biology class (edited) Two minutes after the bell, Robert entered.
"Sleep in?" The teacher asked as he held out his hand.
"I wish," said Robert handing him a bunch of papers.
"Get caught up?"
"On everythin' but sleep." Robert made his way to his seat, ignoring the threatening glances of his classmates. He wasn't worried. He'd put up with worse things than these Westlanders could throw at him.
Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen. A young, idealistic co-ed, Julie, meets a jaded, cold gang member, Robert, and cracks his icy shell, allowing the warmth of her love to awaken his soul.
Exclusively at – Amazon
What people are saying about Dancing in Circles5 stars - Julie I liked, but Robert, loved that guy. He's thrown some insurmountable circumstances to overcome, but he manages a way around it all quite nicely. While he may be the 'bad boy', he still has a heart of gold. The author did a nice job expressing that while we may not all travel the same paths in life, we still are essentially the same people and deserve happiness alike.
5 Stars - I loved the cover, as well as the story. I liked the school setting, and the description in the beginning of Julie and her friends. Julie is the dreamer, searching for a happy ending. I also liked Robert, who is a "bad boy" gang leader. "from the wrong side of the tracks," etc. One of Julie's relatives says he has a heart of gold, and he does. He's smart and practical and I think he's great.
5 Stars - Author Victoria Adams does an excellent job at bringing characters to life. I really enjoyed living through Julie's dream of becoming a dancer and her connection with Robert. Yeah, Robert may have gotten himself in the wrong crowd, but he really does portray a compassionate person and in the end he really does grow on you. Can't wait to see the next one in the series!

Michelle Howard's wonderful romance Torkel's Chosen
Victoria says - I'm excited to host this book. I've been reading weekly snippets on Weekend Writing Warriors and this book is wonderful. The hero - you fall in love with him in minutes.
Torkel’s Chosen Blurb
What would you do if Earth didn’t have enough men?Would you take a chance and leave the only world you knew behind? This is the decision Faith Reid faces. Placing all her hope in a new government program, she seizes the opportunity that offers a chance for the women of Earth to find love among the stars, on a world beyond the one they know.
How many times can one man risk rejection?Would you give up on your dreams?Torkel Alonson has had enough of being ignored and looked over by females on his adopted home world of Enotia. His pride has suffered and he must accept the painful truth. Females will never choose a male with his evil lineage despite his honorable service to his government’s military.
Can two people looking for the same thing find not just what they want but what they need in one another?
ExcerptTorkel bit back his frustration as the females ran past his position in the sands. One after another they squealed and laughed as they selected his brethren. True Enotians with their blond hair and light-colored eyes. Through it all he maintained his stance with his hands clasped behind his back, legs spread wide. Another year, his last in the sands. The ache in his chest caught him off guard. No matter how much he thought he’d prepared, disappointment coiled its way through his heart. To make matters worse, there was one more male in the numbers than females so he’d walk from the sands alone. His shame to bear in stoic silence.“I’m not sure how this works. Do I just hand you the necklace or put it on your neck?”Torkel jerked and glanced down at the short woman standing in front of him. He’d tried to ignore her presence when her footsteps slowed in front of him. “Pardon?”
Author BioMichelle Howard enjoys a crazy life that involves wild kids, a loud dog, and a husband who tolerates the madness. Like many authors, she’s dreamed of writing since reading her first romance novel many years ago. She loves paranormal and contemporary romances and is a fan of the classic romances, such as Judith McNaught and Julie Garwood.

A Guy and A Girl and the morning after on Book Boyfriends Cafe
');
The morning after didn't go exactly as Chelsea had dreamed.
"Chels. Wake up. Hi. You awake?" She yawned. "With me here or do I have to do the whole who's-the-president thing?" Hunter chuckled. She sat up in bed, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes. "You have clothes on.""I have to go. There's a big forest fire at home. Lightning strike started it. It's burning in three different locations.""How'd you find out?""A crew's getting ready at the main house. I went for a run and stopped in for a coffee. They are leaving in..." Hunter looked at his watch. "Fifteen minutes. I'm going with them. It's the fastest way to get me back. I marked home in the GPS. It's really easy, just follow..."An idea filtered into her mind. "You're leaving?""Yea. I have to go back and help. The forest is pretty dry this time of year and this could really get out of control. It rained here, but not back at home. They're going to need every available body.""But what do you know about fighting fires?""I grew up in a conservation park. Think about it. I have to go.""But what if I don't want you to?"Hunter stuffed his clothes into his duffel bag. "I know this sucks. I hadn't planned on abandoning you, this is important."She crossed her arms and leaned back on the head board. "And I'm not."

Week 4 of Chit Chat on Victoria's Pages of Romance - Nature Making Art #VAchitchat
Last week I talked about nature and art. The beauty nature can make - like Jack Frost creating wondrous patterns on my window.
This week I'm talking about this
This was painted by two black and white ruffed lemurs named - Kronk and Herschel. The photo below just shows what this type of lemur looks like.
My daughter is a volunteer tour guide at the Duke University Lemur Center in Durham, North Carolina. She explained that the technicians put the canvases on the floor and pots of paint around then let the lemurs into the area. How do the lemurs paint? The technicians throw handfuls of Craisins around the area and the lemurs bolt for them. They love Craisins. In the process they step in paint and on canvas. The lemur center then sells the painting to help raise funds.
The Lemur Center is a research facility where they study lemurs and their habitat. It is the largest collection of lemurs outside of their homeland Madagascar. It is a fascinating place, where they treat the animals with love and respect. Some are in cages, for their safety or health concerns, but most live a massive fenced in forest and can run wild as they would in Madagascar.
Last week, while my daughter was guiding her tour group, it was announced that Pompeii had delivered her daughter. My daughter snapped a quick photo- with her cell phone and she kept a respectable distance not to stress the new mom. It is mother and daughter sunning themselves. The baby lemur is hard to see - she's only an hour old. If you have a child or grandchild - you might know of the TV character Zoomoomafu. He was a Duke U lemur. Sadly, he died a few weeks ago. But the baby Pompeii is holding is his granddaughter.
So if you ever visit Durham, NC, visit the Duke University Lemur Center - my daughter might be your tour guide.

Weekly BlogHop - Book Hooks and A Guy and A Girl #MFRWhooks, #MFRWAuthor
Welcome to Victoria's Pages of Romance and Book Hooks. This week's 6 to 8 sentences are from my NA contemporary romance – A Guy and A GirlScene Set – Figuring I tortured you enough I jumped a few scenes - Chelsea and Kendall are in the club. Chelsea is waiting to see what's better than a male stripper
Amid the deafening techno music and flashing strobe lights, the first female stripper strutted onto the stage. Trying to be detached about her embarrassment, Chelsea watched the routine from the perspective of one dancer watching another's performance. She observed how the gyrating movements of her hips and shoulders flowed from one to the other. She was impressed with the way the dancer held the audience's attention and used the underlying eroticism of every move she made. She tried not to blush as bits of clothing were flung about the stage.
"There he is." Kendall pulled Chelsea's chin and indicated where to look.
Patrons passed in front of Chelsea, blocking her view, but what she saw made her say, "Who-a!"
Lies, deceits and secrets - not a good way to begin a relationship. After an ugly past forced Hunter Connolly to escape to Europe, the talented hockey player is back in North America and determined to land a position with a professional team. What people are saying about – A Guy and A Girl
5 Stars- I loved this book...I think that it was an awesome story. It was interesting on how everything came about as well as some surprises on who was doing what.
Scene Set -Final snippet to the Biology class scene.
Robert brooded until the end of day bell sounded. The class stood and shuffled out of the room. Except Robert.
Francine waited for Julie and whispered, "Imagine, letting him into Westland."
Julie half-nodded as she was used to her friend's attitude - unless you grew up in Westland, you were unworthy of attending Westland Prep. She glanced back into the classroom. Robert was leaning on a desk, arms crossed, glaring at the teacher. Turning in the direction of her locker, she wondered if there'd be one less student in biology tomorrow.
Blurb – One born into privilege and a charmed life surrounded by love and family. The other born to a life of violence on the streets as the solemn gang leader of the notorious Shoresmen.
