Rex Stomont - Meet The Characters
𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘’𝐒 𝐃𝐀𝐖𝐍: 𝐀 𝐒𝐘𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 (𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝟐 𝐎𝐅 𝟑)
𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 – 𝐑𝐄𝐗 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐑𝐌𝐎𝐍𝐓
Rex Stormont served over 30 years in the Inter Galactic Defence Force (IGDF) and is a decorated hero of the Galactic Union of Planets (GUP). He is from the strategist faction and a born and proven military commander.
He was raised by James Carrick, now GUP President, when his parents were killed in a Raiders attack in 4505 (Aged 10). Carrick’s best friend was his father (William Stormont), who served as his XO on the IGV Cherokee under his Command from 4490-4495.
He formed a strong friendship with Matheus Adamos, the renowned Physicist and Engineer in 4507 (Aged 12), after meeting him through his adopted fathers introduction, at a lecture on time dilatation travel.
Rex enrolled into the IGDF graduate scheme in 4510 (15 years old), entering service in 4515 (20 years old). He quickly rose through the ranks becoming the youngest ever Captain in IGDF history at the age of 28 (4523) onboard the IGV Miekka. He continued to serve on the Miekka until 4540, when it de-commissioned, promoted to Fleet Captain at the age of 33 (4528).
He met both Chikira Katsuryoku (then a Tactical Officer) and Hidri Samarata (then a junior Engineer) onboard the Miekka. When it decommissioned in 4540, they transferred across with Rex to the Bonitas, a new state of the art star ship and science vessel, becoming his Executive Officer (XO) and Head of Engineering (Chief) respectively.
He was decorated with the Union Gallantry Medal in 4530 when he defeated Magnus Erikson, the feared leader of the Raiders, in the battle of the Black Eye in the Coma Berenices Constellation.
He united Humanity and the Nederig by activating the Sky Anchor and enabling the Nederig to escape from their dying universe in 4546.
He left the IGDF in 4546 to become a Galactic Gardien for the strategist faction and was shortly after appointed as leader of his faction in 4547, before becoming the President in 4548. He took on this position reluctantly, to prepare humanity for what was to come. A position he still holds to the present day (4561) and after 13 years.

Humanity's Factional System
𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘’𝐒 𝐃𝐀𝐖𝐍: 𝐀 𝐒𝐘𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄
𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐓: 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘
So in the ‘Humanity’s Dawn’ universe we see in the distant future that humanity has divided itself into factions, with the four main groups being the Strategists, Industrialists, Technologists and Culturalists.
I wanted to play with the idea that when humanity does spread itself out over the vast distance that is our universe it will not be national or geographical interests that binds them together, but a persons actual purpose, and what they contribute to society.
In the timeline leading up to book 1, the formation of the factions happens shortly after the first ‘Galactic Union of Planets (GUP)’ falls apart, seeing themselves plunged into a 13 year long conflict known as the ‘Identity Wars’.
The idea of a person earning their place in society indicates that humanity are a species that must find purpose in their being, in order to find fulfilment. In this universe these factional lines are drawn along the boarders largely on how they think!
Do you think humanity will devise a similar system in its not so distant future? Will the need for patriotic and national belonging be replaced with something else as we spread out amongst the stars?

Technology Concept in Book 2
𝐇𝐔𝐌𝐀𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐘’𝐒 𝐃𝐀𝐖𝐍: 𝐀 𝐒𝐘𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐓𝐑𝐘 𝐎𝐅 𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 (𝐁𝐎𝐎𝐊 𝟐 𝐎𝐅 𝟑)
𝐂𝐎𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐏𝐓: 𝐐𝐔𝐀𝐍𝐓𝐔𝐌 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐎𝐍𝐀𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐁𝐀𝐓𝐓𝐋𝐄 𝐒𝐏𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 (𝐐𝐑𝐁𝐒)
So in the second book, with the arrival of the Nederig in our universe, the newly formed alliance begin to utilise the technological knowledge the Nederig have, with one concept being their ability to dimensionally transit time and space.
Humanity are able to utilise it to create a dimensional warfighting system onboard their ships called the Quantum Resonance Battle Sphere (QRBS) system. It requires both a pilot, known as a ‘Wayfinder’, and a communicator, known as a ‘Director’, who interprets the Wayfinders directions.
The Wayfinder is a human, as it was found that they are better suited to interpreting the resonant and rhythmic patterns of dimensional space; musicians make excellent candidates for the programme! The director is a Nederig and they utilise their empathic abilities to communicate with and understand the Wayfinders direction (known as an ‘Insight’).
Dimensional space is the key scientific concept explored within this instalment and was heavily influenced by my reading into the wide, and quite often controversial subject that is string theory, and the wider work of the physicist, Michio Kaku.

𝐌𝐄𝐄𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐑𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐑𝐒 – 𝐂𝐇𝐈𝐊𝐈𝐑𝐀 𝐊𝐀𝐓𝐒𝐔𝐑𝐘𝐎𝐊𝐔
Born in 4505 to a prominent Culturalist family, she won a scholarship for the IGDF academy in 4525 for outstanding abilities in game play and theory. She graduated in 4525 at the age of 20, quickly rising through the ranks.
She also lost her father, an IGDF Logistics Officer in the Border Wars, in 4508 (She was 3 years old). Her father was supervising the transportation of an asteroid mining convey when it was attacked.
She remains very close to her mother, a renowned writer and philosopher within the Culturalist faction, with whom she shares an apartment (when home) on Xenophon.
A proud Culturalist and purveyor of the arts herself, she published a book in 4531 titled, “The Aftermath & Struggle”, penning her experiences of the heavy toll war exerts upon those left behind.
She became the youngest ever appointment as a Tactical Officer onboard the IGV Miekka, aged 23 in 4528, at the request of Rex Stormont. She has served with Rex from 4528-4540 (IGV Miekka – Tactical Officer) and 4542-4545 (IGV Bonitas - XO).
After being decorated with the Galactic Gallantry medal in 4547 she was promoted to captain in 4546, taking command of the IGV Bonitas when Fleet Captain Rex Stormont departed.
In 4557 she was promoted to Fleet Captain and took command of the prototype ‘Shadow Striker’ class destroyer IGV Soloveiko. She recruited both Misha (Bonitas tactical officer) and Hidri (Bonitas chief engineer) to the crew upon their respective promotions to Commander in 4557.

White Holes - Science Fiction or Science Fact?
𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐓𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐋𝐄𝐒 – 𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐅𝐈𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐎𝐍 𝐎𝐑 𝐒𝐂𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 𝐅𝐀𝐂𝐓?
So, I’d promised a few of you a Monday discussion on White Holes this coming week while I was off working in Scotland. What I forgot was that I start the promotion for my second book, so here it is as a Saturday special, just because I love you guys and I’m a man of my word!
White holes are basically black holes with time reversed, occupying the same space, over a long time period (time moves more slowly beyond the event horizon). If that’s confused you then that’s good, we’re on the right track!
The idea is that when a black hole is formed, the mass condenses, falling into a gravity well in space time (invoke the ball on a bed sheet idea we do with relativity, but at an extreme). This failed star continues to collapse, getting smaller and smaller, until it reaches what is known as the ‘Planck Length’. In short this is the smallest something can get before we reach what is known as the ‘Quantum Uncertainty’.
Stepping back to 1964, Igor Novikov came up with the white hole idea to solve a problem presented by the Einstein field equations. The problem being that spacetime cannot have any edges.
The best interpretation I have seen of this comes from Carlo Rovelli. As the failed stars collapses and its size moves beyond the Planck Length/Quantum Uncertainty level, what he predicts happens is best described as a ‘Quantum Bounce’; where the black hole becomes a white hole.
Imagine a rubber ball being released from one metre. The ball never returns to the point of origin and will slowly come to rest, eventually on the ground. This is what he theorises happens with white holes, and because they never overcome the initial collapsing forces, due to this loss of momentum, can never be viewed from our viewpoint outside of the black hole. It will therefore always appear black, and never white to us! He also predicts that there could be fractures at the quantum level of spacetime that may lead to exit points in our normal spacetime, but this isn’t exactly solid science!
So, this will be a good one, as this theory has literally split the theoretical physics community right down the middle! Does this theory provide every Sci-Fi writer with a plausibility dream come true? Is it just wishful thinking of something we are currently unable to observe? What do you think?
