Gravity! The Final Quantum Frontier!

𝙂𝙍𝘼𝙑𝙄𝙏𝙔…… 𝙏𝙃𝙀 𝙁𝙄𝙉𝘼𝙇 𝙌𝙐𝘼𝙉𝙏𝙐𝙈 𝙁𝙍𝙊𝙉𝙏𝙄𝙀𝙍!

When we look at the fundamental forces that act upon our universe, we draw a bit of a blank when it comes to gravity, particularly at the sub-atomic level. We know that electromagnetism and the weak and strong nuclear forces use the photon, W & Z bosons, and the gluon, respectively, within their interactions. Although we have now observed gravitational waves at the macroscopic (large) level, with the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Observatory (LIGO), greater knowledge of the sub-atomic interaction of the theorised graviton particle still eludes our scientists!

This is where it gets fun……. A project currently being considered is the Laser Interferometer Space Antenna (LISA), which they are hoping to deploy into space somewhen around 2035 (regularly moving right, so don’t add it to your calendar quite yet). With the increased distance between points, the removal of interferences that LIGO suffers from on Earth, and the fact that they intend to put the array into orbit around the Sun, it should yield more accurate data, free of noise and interference, with 360 degree coverage of the universe. The hope is that we can start using this type of large scale data to dig down into the quantum levels and assist in the search for the sub-atomic particle (the graviton) that gravity uses to interact with all other matter and forces in our universe.

LIGO (see picture), and eventually LISA, work by measuring gravitational disturbances. A beam is split along two arms, bounced back at the ends, and directed onto a photodetector. Einstein taught us that gravity warps space so if the arms are interfered with by a gravitational wave (two black holes colliding for example) the two beams will arrive at the detector at different times, and this will be recorded.

Currently it is believed that gravity is the weakest of the 4 fundamental forces at the sub-atomic level. I feel though that there is more to it than that, and a particular element of string theory has perked my interest in this area where it predicts that gravity could in fact flow through dimensions, acting as a binding agent for the very fabric of space time!

What are your thoughts? Could gravity have a more fundamental quantum (small scale) role in our universe than we currently understand?

Do Aliens Wear Hoodies?

ⒹⓄ ⒶⓁⒾⒺⓃⓈ ⓌⒺⒶⓇ ⒽⓄⓄⒹⒾⒺⓈ?

We often have a very fixed idea of what aliens might look like, little green/grey men with large heads and eyes, and long hands being the general norm.

When we look at the diversity of life on our own planet and how it can find a way to survive in some of the harshest of conditions, we have to ask ourselves the question. ‘Is the bipedal humanoid oxygen breather really the only option?’ (wearing a hoodie of course, stay with me) 😊

In my next book I will be exploring this further as the variety of species increases significantly. Something I’d like to do is evolve this beyond the possibility of just the aforementioned lifeform.

As to not spoil to much for my readers I’ll pick on the already established species from the first book, the Nederig. They are bipedal humanoids in shape, but are silicon based lifeforms who require temperatures in access of 600 degrees to survive (science behind the silicon explained in the book). Their bodies drink radiation as nourishment, rather than food, and they breath carbon dioxide (another measure to help mitigate against the limitations of a purely silicon body type).

What are some of the ideas you’ve read about that you liked or used in your books?

I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, reviews are the life blood of any Author, and the most important thing to a reader when they are making up their mind whether to click and buy a copy.
In your review could I ask you to consider the following, as the more detail you provide is proven to get more positive responses from future would be readers, according to marketing statistics.
1. Tell people what you thought in general about the book (Title and text).
2. What did you like about my writing in particular, i.e. what stood out.
3. What type of reader would you recommend this book to?
For those of you who have already left reviews. It would really help me if you could do the same on ‘Goodreads’ at the link provided - Humanity's Dawn: Compassion's Cry: An Epic Military Hard Science Space Opera by Martin Rowe | Goodreads

• I’ve been rather bad with writing this week, only sitting down yesterday to progress the Timeline I intend to use as a reader freebie. Today has been a better and I’m currently 18% of the wat towards completion. The research is fun, and I’ve had to go back a redo a lot of the images. I have decided to remove the AI components after having a good read into the legality of it!

My Editor is a Superhero Did You Know?

(っ◔◡◔)っ ♥ MY EDITOR IS A SUPERHERO DID YOU KNOW? ♥

Hi everyone, this is a question I want to put out to the writers, and let the readers see that we are only human 😲

Every writer, no matter how accomplished or experienced has a particular word that just will not stick in their head. I am forever feeling like a naughty child when I see my Editor correct me time and again for the same mistake. She does so without quarrel, this is why she’s my superhero. I would probably want to hit myself around the head with something somewhat heavy 🤔

One I often do, as not to name too many, is getting ‘Sought’ and ‘Sort’ mixed up. I don’t know why; it just won’t stay in there! 😫

Writers, what’s your magic word (this should be fun)? 😀🤣😀🤣

Is Replication a Workable Concept in Our Near and Distant Future?

Ǝᴚ∩⊥∩Ⅎ ⊥N∀⊥SIᗡ ᗡN∀ ᴚ∀ƎN ᴚ∩O NI ⊥ԀƎƆNOƆ Ǝ˥ᙠ∀⋊ᴚOM ∀ NOI⊥∀ƆI˥ԀƎᴚ SI

Replicator, molecular synthesizer, matter-energy convertor……… This technology is often referenced in Sci-Fi and is a concept that has probably been made most famous by the ‘Star Trek’ franchise. The idea being that any technologically advanced spacefaring civilisation should be able to master energy to the degree where they are able to replicate certain materials (matter).

The best working example we currently have of a replicator isn’t anything practical, in fact it’s the sun, which burns hydrogen to produce helium primarily. Depending on size and stage of life cycle, it will then continue to produce more heavy elements in its core, climbing down the periodic table. This, to the best of our knowledge, is how everything you see in our universe is created!

A group of physicists from Imperial College London in recent years have figured out how to create matter from light, but this appears to be as far as we have got knowledge wise. There have been a couple of projects put on the books by NASA (3D food printing) and big pharmaceuticals (photobioreactors), but short of that, and to the best of my knowledge, this is where we are!

In my ‘Humanity’s Dawn’ series I like to look at the input a sudden introduction of a technology like this would have on society. I particularly focus on the asteroid mining and building industries, and how such a discovery would have to be introduced slowly. The more I looked at this, the more I realised it bore a striking resemblance to a debate that is going on in our present time. The introduction of Artificial Intelligence (AI)!

What are your thoughts on replication? Is it a feasible technology of the future? What sort of social impact do you think it will have?

Killing Off Chracters.... Your Thoughts?

🅺🅸🅻🅻🅸🅽🅶 🅾🅵🅵 🅲🅷🅰🆁🅰🅲🆃🅴🆁🆂……. 🆃🅷🅾🆄🅶🅷🆃🆂?

As quite a new Author who is only on his second book I have become quite aware that readers expectations of characters being killed off, don’t always go hand in hand with what you, the writer, is plotting.

My Editor will often provide me feed back in the form of “NOOOOOOO!!!!!!....”, So I put it to you all;

🆆🆁🅸🆃🅴🆁🆂: Are there any hard and fast rules I should be generally adhering too?

🆁🅴🅰🅳🅴🆁🆂: Any particular expectations on untimely demises, before you open the book?

This is going to be fun 😂😂😂😂
