People say you have to have a lot of passion for what you’re doing and it’s totally true. And thereason is because it’s so hard that if you don’t, any rational person would give up. It’...

Are We Misunderstanding Content Marketing?

Posted in Marketing

Content marketing is the hottest thing to hit the marketing industry since, well, the Internet. Why? Because it’s becoming very clear that people are consuming content. Lots of it. Video, webpages, e-books, and the list goes on.

But what, ultimately, is the point of content marketing? Is it all about branding? Is it all about lead generation? Is it both? How do you measure success with the content you produce?

I contend that content marketing, ultimately, is all about relatio...

Can Computer Programs Be Philosophical?

Posted in Science

The Cornell CreativeMachines lab (creativemachines.cornell.edu) is one of many higher institution “labs” working on how to bridge the gap between man and machine. In essence the “humanization” of computers. From their website:

At the Creative Machines Lab we are interested in robots thatcreateandare creative. We explore novel autonomous systems that can design and make other machines – automatically. Our work is inspired from biology, as we seek new biological concepts for eng...

Is Sir Ken Robinson Wrong About Education?

Posted in CreativityTumblog

I have been thinking a lot about education (based on my own experiences as a college professor and as a father of a multiple children in public schools ranging from first to 11th grade) and so have come across Robinson quite a bit as I have been researching. I have to say, he’s funny. Engaging. And he makes a great argument about creativity (I’ll be posting my own thoughts on that soon). But what I find very incongruous is that he’s doing exactly for the arts what t...

The 4 Types of Digital Relationships

Posted in Marketing

Developing a relationship with your digital audience is the ultimate goal of the modern marketer. In fact, it’s probably the singular, most important shift in marketing today (from broadcast marketing to engagement marketing). And I would argue that escalating relationships to intimacy (where people are willingly giving up information) should be what motivates any marketer to engage with people one-on-one in the digital world.

But let’s be honest, not everyone wants an intim...

Novelty: The Drug of the Digital World

Posted in HumanIntelligenceScience

Have you started to consume content differently? Are you in “snacking mode?” Do you look for aggregation, consolidation, and curation?

If you do, you aren’t alone. According to folks like Nicholas Carr in his book The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains, the Internet is fundamentally changing how we consume content. We aren’t interested in deep understand or long-form. We want cursory. We want headlines and facts. And we want to move onto the ne...

Posted in Tumblog

Jim Reed takes the most amazing photographs of weather that the rest of us are too scare to look at (even from a distance). And yet, there he is. Digital Trends did a really awesome perspective piece on him as well as featuring a really cool gallery of some of his shots. If you are fascinated by weather (or just love photography) you should check out this post on Digital Trends.

A Look into the Future of Tech?

Posted in Technology

One person’s outlook on a variety of technologies out to 2025. Not sure I agree with much of this but it does get you thinking. Perhaps it would be more interesting to see this diagram (or some variant thereof) looking at the acceleration of technologies. So based on 3G to 4G migration, for example, how long from 4G to 5G?

I also think that more interesting that just technological evolution is cultural evolution as a result of technological progression. What will these tech...

Build Death Star, We Will Not.

Posted in Tumblog

A lot of people might feel let down by the current administration and, in many cases, it has failed. But one thing that it is starting to understand is the role digital technologies (like the Web) can play in connecting more people to the government, in giving them a voice when the current traditional system (i.e., voting, electoral college, state representatives, etc.) seems to have gone deaf.

The “We The People” program, as part of whitehouse.gov, provides a forum for anyone...
