Trends Driving the Evolution of Marketing
If you didn’t already know it, marketing is undergoing some changes. Why? Well first, everything changes. Get used to it. Second, because our continued use of digital technologies is fundamentally altering consumer behavior. Hence, marketing is trying hard to adapt.
That’s not to say that everyone is evolving with it. There are still many CMOs, VPs of marketing, and others still stuck in the past. They are still broadcasting their messages and using the power/reach o...
Storytelling for Marketers: Connecting the Dots
Posted in Business
There’s been a lot of conversation about storytelling lately for business marketers. But as I keep writing about storytelling I realize that I am touching on different pieces. This post is an attempt to connect all the dots so that marketers understand what storytelling is and why it’s important for their business.
Note: there are a lot of links in this piece to other articles I have written.

This post was originally published on the Limelight Networks Blog as part of my responsibilities as the Sr. Director, Marketing Strategy.
Marketing is changing because of digital. It’s no longer just about convincing people to buy your product. There are thousands of you out there trying to do that. We call it the “noise”. So what can marketers do? They can tell stories. They can show video. They can engage.
They can develop a relationship.
For the first time, marketers are pre...

Storytelling 101: What Makes a Good Story?
Posted in Marketing
This was originally published on the Limelight Networks Blog as part of my day-to-day responsibilities as the Sr. Director of Marketing Strategy.
Storytelling is the future of digital marketing, plain and simple. If you aren’t on board yet, you are living in the past and each day you are “advertising” your products instead of “storytelling” about your business is another day your competitors are getting ahead of you. But before we jump into some ideas about what makes a good...
Are You an Information Snacker?
Posted in Tumblog
Trends would seem to point to our growingpredilectionto “snack” on information rather than spending time reading deeply. Is this a result of the Internet? Nicholas Carr would seem to think so in his book The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to our Brains. And the infographic below fromMobiles Republic, a global news syndication company, seems to support that with the results from its 2013 survey of news reading habits. Photo: Creating A Window to the World

Sometimes it’s up to the photographer to create the vision that the camera can’t really capture. Such is the case in this beautiful photo of a bedroom and the Brooklyn Bridge:
The details on the photo (and how the photographer made it) are on the NatGeo link below:

Kinetic Digital Interaction: Changing the Way We Compute
Posted in Tumblog
As one of the major trends that will shape our world by 2015, Kinetic Digital Interaction (or KDI; yes, I just invented that don’t steal it) represents devices like Microsoft Kinect and Leap Motion (pictured above in the video) that translate physical motion to digital engagement. Where this technology will continue to expand is in facial recognition, miniaturization, and integration. Don’t be surprised to find this kind of technology embedded in your smartphone, tablet, TV,...
Visions of Undersea Cables

May not seem like much but this interactive map of trans-atlantic cables enabling the global Internet is pretty cool:

Now just use your imagination a little and think about the process to not only lay this cable but fix it. Puts our global Internet into a much different perspective. Almost like the blood vessels of our new, digital planet.

What The Aliens Will See First When They Invade

Well, maybe I shouldn’t be that dramatic but these videos (compilations of still photos taken at 1 frame per second from the International Space Station) really provide a great over-head view of our night-time lives. Beyond just the nervous-system-like arrangement of cities and lights, you can also catch glimpses of really cool atmospheric phenomena.
