FAITH WORKS

We say that our God is not passively sitting by waiting for you to die, but that He actively longs to be involved in every part of your life if you are willing to humble yourself and let him be God.

If we say that, we should be able to produce a line of people, places, and events where God is doing just that.

James, the half-brother of Jesus threw a wrench into a lot of people’s theology when he wrote the radical line that would become scripture.

“…Faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. But someone will say, “You have faith, and I have works.” Show me your faith without your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James 2:17-19 NKJV

In other words, faith is not a theory. Faith is something that will produce something else. While faith starts out invisible, it does not remain that way. James says, “I will show you my faith.”

While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, “My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her, and she will live.”  So Jesus arose and followed him, and so did His disciples. Matthew 9:18-19 NKJV

Have faith in Him, call out to Him, and believe in Him enough to say, if You come, it will happen.  The result of the faith of that ruler was that “He went in and took her by the hand, and the girl arose.” Matthew 9:25 NKJV

Declaration: I have faith in My Lord that produces great fruit. I will let Him work through me to bear fruit in the lives of those around me today.

SAFE HAVEN

A refugee is somebody who doesn’t have a refuge, a sanctuary, or a shelter. Refugees struggle to survive because they don’t have a place of protection.

Miraculous survivor stories tend to have something in common: a place of refuge.

The Japanese businessman survived the Hiroshima blast because he was working in a bank vault. An Indonesian woman survived 5 days at sea after the tsunami carried her away from her family. She did so by clutching a palm tree in the Indian Ocean, eating the fruit and bark of the tree she held on to.

Don’t you just love a good survival story?

So does God. God knows the importance of refuge. He doesn’t offer to build you one; He offers to be your refuge.

In Psalm 57:1, David writes, Be merciful to me oh God. for my soul trusts in you: And in the shadow of your wings, I will make my refuge.

Max Lucado, in his Thomas Nelson book Facing Your Giants, says it a lot better than I could. “Make God your refuge. Not your job, your spouse, your reputation, or your retirement account. Make God your refuge.

Let him, not Saul, encircle you. Let Him be the ceiling that breaks the beating sun, the walls that stop the wind, the foundation on which you stand.”

Tom Petty says, “You don’t have to live like a refugee.” Jesus says, come to me.

The name of the Lord is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. – Proverbs 18:10 NKJV

Declaration: I live an abundant life, free from the bondage of sin, safely in the name of the Lord.

MIRACLE MAKER

MIRACLE MAKER

It turns out that goodness is the catalyst for incredible miracles and transformation. Goodness always has selflessness attached to it. Selflessness always has the love of God attached to it. With the love of God comes grace to overcome everything.

Did you know that with the power to serve comes the supernatural power to overcome things? See, the goodness of God that overcomes evil starts off as a willingness to serve but ends up as a transformational juggernaut.

In the kingdom, authority is servant authority. When people selflessly serve others, the Crown of Heaven and the Prince of Peace both show up. When we were ministering to people and their needs were getting bigger, our money was tight. We just kept serving, and the goodness of God overcame our obstacles.

The IRS voluntarily sent me $1,700 back in 1996 after an internal audit. The $1,700 was exactly the amount of money I needed to keep me from losing my little house. It came in on the very last day I had to send the money to the mortgage company. I had no idea it was coming, but good overcomes the evil that comes against our homes.

So they all ate and were filled, and twelve baskets of the leftover fragments were taken up by them. Luke 9:17 NKJV

Do you have a need as big as the hunger of 5,000 people at the end of a long day?  In His goodness, God will bring you overcoming victory.  Follow Him, walk in His ways, and watch Him meet your needs.

Declaration: The desire of my heart is to walk in the center of God’s will for me.  I will serve and honor Him in every way I can.  I will see the needs of others and reach out to be His hands and feet in the world. His goodness will overcome every obstacle in my life.

ENDURING LOVE

ENDURING LOVE

The rainbow shall be in the cloud, and I will look on it to remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is on the earth.  Genesis 9:16 NKJV

Time is a gift from God. Within the time He gives us is the package of purpose and opportunity through relationship. He doesn’t allow everything to happen at once because He values relationship and redemption more than functionality and punishment. Everything in the Kingdom is relational before it is functional.

If God didn’t love having a relationship with you, He could just say, “Trust Me, I played it all out, and this is how it would have ended up.” But He loves you so much, He took the formidable risk and the terrible pain of all the things that happen in the history of humanity upon Himself. He gave you life, He wants you to go enjoy it.

A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps. – Proverbs 16:9 NKJV

Because you have time, you have a great opportunity to grow with Him and in Him. In the time frame you have been trusted with, you have an opening to achieve the impossible and fulfill the purpose of actually being an ambassador of heaven. Time is your ticket to personally see God change everything with you, for you, and through you. As long as you have time, you still have hope.

With long life, I will satisfy him and show him My salvation. – Psalm 91:16 NKJV

Declaration: My life is filled with the good things of God because He loves me and wants to be with me.  I will walk in His ways and treasure my time on Earth.

THE GIFT OF OVERCOMING DEATH

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning. James 1:17 NKJV

When the Bible says that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of Lights, you need to know this. The Father is the giver. That’s number one. The Father is the giving side of God. Everybody thinks it’s Jesus. We have this weird concept in the body of Jesus that God the Father is really stern, Jesus is kind of a hippie, and the Holy Spirit is like Tigger, the tiger. None of that’s actually true at all.  In fact, the Father is the great giver. God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son. He is the giver. Whenever we see this here, we can know that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above and comes down from the Father of Lights. There is no other gift that could possibly be greater than the gift of eternal life with God.  The only way that could have happened was for the Father to give His Son to be sacrificed so we could be redeemed.

Then he says, He’s not in and out; there is no variableness, neither is there any shadow or turning. He’s not different from one moment to the next. God, the Giver, is always willing to give. God the Giver is always, always, always standing there with His hand out to give. That’s God the Giver, that is God the Father.

The great principle and the reality is that everything that God has, He’s willing to give to us. But we have to understand that the earth is the Lord’s and everything in it. So, if He wants to give us everything, or if we’re ever going to get into a place where we can actually receive that, we have to be the kind of people that understand it’s Him that owns everything. It’s His to give. It’s actually the Father’s to give away because He actually owns everything.

He chose to give His Son because He loves those who will come to Him and become His children.

Declaration: Heaven is my destination because Jesus is my Lord. My Father has blessed me with an abundant life, and today, I will sing of His Glorious Love.

FROM ONE TO ANOTHER

One of the scariest acts going on is the act of people abusing children because there is no protection from that threat in the household.  As Christians, we need to be sure to help our children know God.  We need to build that foundation for them to know the truth of Who King Jesus is to them.

One generation shall praise Your works to another And shall declare Your mighty acts.  Psalm 145:4 NKJV

When God told Adam and Eve in Genesis 1:22b to, Be fruitful and multiply, He not only meant for them to have children, but to raise the children to know and love God by being fruitful in sharing their faith and teaching the children to walk in the fear of the Lord.

Our promises and riches are in heaven and as believers, we are to share our faith in King Jesus everywhere we go.  We need to be passionately in love with Him and want to gush to the world about our Bridegroom.

Our generational promises are meant for just that, generations.  Share how to walk in the fear of the Lord with your family and friends.  Help expand the generational promises God has given to us by sharing your faith.

Declaration: I will do my part in sharing the generational promises God has given to me and I will tell everyone about King Jesus and how to walk in the fear of the Lord.

GOD’S DIVINE ORDER

GOD’S DIVINE ORDER

Friends, the story of Adam and Noah reveals God’s desire for us to have dominion over His creation.  Just as God brought every animal to Adam to name and instructed Noah to gather every living creature into the ark, He calls us to steward His creation with wisdom and grace.  But we must be vigilant, for the presence of the Nephilim, those giants, and men of renown, represents a rebellion against God’s divine order.

But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. Matthew 24:37-39 NKJV

These beings, a result of the sons of God mingling with the daughters of men, brought corruption and violence to the earth, prompting God to cleanse the world through the flood.  As in the days of Noah, we must recognize and resist the influence of such corrupted forces.  By aligning ourselves with God’s specific plans and walking in righteousness, we can ensure His protection over our households and fulfill our God-given mandate to have dominion over the earth.

Declaration: I will keep vigilant of the world around me.  I will only align myself with God’s divine order for my life.

THE APPLE OF GOD’S EYE

THE APPLE OF GOD’S EYE

Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.  Psalm 17:8 NKJV

He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. Deuteronomy 32:10 NKJV

The apple of the eye is the pupil, the direct center of the eye.  God views you as the apple of His eye which means your reflection is in the pupil of His eye.  How cool is that!

You can partner with a view, a lens, or a perspective that will cause you to lose your loyalty to Jesus.  If you choose to partner with a comparison lens, you are choosing to lose your loyalty.

Understand you are growing and have a yes in your spirit for the things God brings you – even scary things.  If God says I can do it, I can do it. If God brings me the opportunity I can own it. If The Lord tells me this is who I am, then I have to conform my life to the image of who He says I am.

We have to replace our eye of “us” with God’s eye of us.  People who can’t do this tend to be what the Bible calls lukewarm. That’s why Jesus tells the lukewarm church Laodicea, that they needed a new view.

I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.  Revelation 3:18 NKJV

Anointed eyes = heavenly vision and Godly perspective.

When the blind man healed by Jesus was asked how, look what he said, 
Therefore they said to him, “How were your eyes opened?”  He answered and said, “A Man called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So, I went and washed, and I received sight.” John 9:10-11 NKJV

When we see with anointed eyes, we begin to see ourselves the way Jesus sees us.  There is a phrase in the Bible for that: The Apple of God’s Eye.

You need to choose God’s antidote to comparing yourself to others: Own your own story and be authentic.  Be convinced God loves you as YOU.

Declaration: I will own my own story and stay authentic.  I will not fall into the trap of comparison to others and will only see myself through God’s eyes.

LEAP OF FAITH

LEAP OF FAITH

When changes come, we often blame the enemy if it appears not to line up with our vision.  There are times when our direction, led by the Spirit, takes us places only He can justify for our good, or the good of others.

The son of a Baptist pastor, Jonathan Briley walked to work on September 11, 2001.  He was employed as the sound engineer at the famed Windows of the World restaurant.

On September 11, 2001, at 9:41 a.m., 56 minutes after the ordeal began, Richard Drew, a photojournalist, pointed his lens upward and caught the infamous shot of a man free falling.

So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.”  1 Corinthians 15:54 NKJV

Amazingly, Briley is vertical, almost casual as he dove headfirst ala Superman – arms by his side, left leg bent at the knee, and his white jacket billowing free against black pants.  This is one amazing photograph we wish we’d never seen.

An asthmatic, Briley was forced to escape the smoke.  He obviously decided to die flying rather than choking.  In a place and time where every option had been taken away, he mustered the courage to step out of the heat and into the hands of God.

His older sister, Gwendolyn, said, “Let me tell you how much Jonathan loved God.  He trusted Him so much; he jumped 105 stories expecting God to catch him.”

Declaration: I will have the courage to trust God when nothing else makes sense.  I know whatever terrible thing I am facing; it pales in comparison to what Jonathan Briley faced.  I will have the courage, just as he did to expect that God will always catch me.

REJOICE

REJOICE

…My heart rejoices in the Lord; My horn is exalted in the Lord.  I smile at my enemies, Because I rejoice in Your salvation.  1 Samuel 2:1 NKJV

Let’s talk about rejoicing in the Lord, My Friends.  God gave us a free ride with Him when He offered up King Jesus for our sins.  He didn’t have to do that, but He loved His creation so much that He did not want His plans to have us as companions to go away.

With gladness and rejoicing they shall be brought; They shall enter the King’s palace. Psalm 45:15 NKJV

Whether you are godly or ungodly, according to Ecclesiastes, you will go through times of weeping and times of laughing.  You will have days you want to mourn and days you want to dance.  The same Bible that says, “In all these things we are more than conquerors,” also says in Job 5:7 that you and I are going to have trouble “as sure as sparks fly upward.”

It’s not a contradiction.  It is simply a fact of life that God has made us to have incredible victory in spite of our miserable failures. Our Christian experience, no matter how powerful, is full of good and bad days.  It is full of days when the power of God is obvious and other days when the power of God seems hidden.  But get this: the power of God is just as real on both days!

Declaration: In all I do on this earth, I will do with gladness and rejoicing for the Lord.  I will keep my eyes on the things above and not on things of this earth.
