REWARDS OF OVERCOMING

There are 17 promises in the Book of Revelation reserved for overcomers.
Let’s take a look at some of them.

Revelation 2:7 says, “To him that overcomes, will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God.” This is the promise of eternal life and redemption of the original sin of Adam and Eve. Total restoration with God is the way it’s supposed to be.

Revelation 2:11 says, “He that overcomes shall not be hurt of the second death.” The overcomer doesn’t have to worry about being separated from God ever again. They will be in the presence of Jesus and in the fullness of joy.

Revelation 2:17 says, “To him that overcomes will I give to eat of the hidden manna.” Jesus is the hidden manna! He said in John 6:32-33 He was the bread from heaven.

Revelation 2:17 also says, “and will give him a white stone.” This is the promise of acquittal. A white stone signifies a “not guilty” verdict or admittance into a special group.

It also says in Revelation 2:17 that “in the stone a new name is written, which no man knows except he that receives it.” Overcomers get a new family name to signify adoption into God’s family. There is no trace of your old self or your rebellion.

Revelation 2:26 says, “And he that overcomes, and keeps my works until the end, to him will I give power over the nations.” Do you want to have the authority to preach to the nations the Good News that Jesus Christ is King of Kings and Lord of Lords? I do!

Revelation 21:7 says, “He that overcomes shall inherit all things… and I will be his God… and he shall be my son.” I like the sound of that, and you should too!

Revelation 3:21 tells us,  “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.”

Why just survive the troubles of this world and constantly lick your wounds? Rise up and live a courageous life that turns wounds into scars! Be healed of your survival mentality and go after your Kingdom purpose. Be an overcomer!

Declaration:  Lord Jesus, come clean up and bind the emotional wounds that have held me captive. Heal my broken heart. Today, I let go of bitterness and find restoration! I am an overcomer, and I choose to let the Lord redeem my soul and set me free.

MIND IN PEACE, NOT PIECES

Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope. – 2 Thessalonians 2:16 NLT

The next time you’re surprised by the darkness of your thoughts, know this: satan and his demonic forces have been with you since you were little. They can exactly imitate your thoughts! Darkness loves to get inside your head and whisper things you mistake as your own ideas.

Don’t believe everything you think. “Nobody loves you,” they whisper. “Things will never get better,” they insist. “My mess is never going to change,” you hear your voice say aloud. The next time you catch yourself saying or even thinking something like that, ask yourself, “Who told me that?”

It wasn’t Jesus. Have you heard the 23rd Psalm? Of course, you have. It starts out like this:  The Lord is my shepherd, and I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures, He leads me beside still waters, He restores my soul… – Psalms 23:1-2

The Word declares the Lord is your shepherd. A shepherd loves and protects His sheep. He will take you to green pastures. Why? Because a pasture is a safe place where He can use His shepherd’s rod to fight off whatever is seeking to devour you and His staff to keep you close.

He also promises still waters or a peaceful place. You need peace after the devil tries to invade your thoughts. That’s why the next verse says, “He restores my soul.” That means He puts your mind back together after the enemy has messed with it.

The bottom line is this—God is leading you into better places. Do you see it in the words above? He wants to take you where things make sense, and you can have sanity again.

Declaration:  My mind is a sanctuary for the mind of Christ. He renews my mind with His Words. I hear Him, and he reminds me of what He has told me. He loves me, leads me into peaceful places, and brings me joy.

PURPOSE LIVING, PLEASED FATHER

Our lives are a Christ-like fragrance rising up to God. But this fragrance is perceived differently by those who are being saved and by those who are perishing.  –  2 Corinthians 2:15 NLT  

The Hebrew word, Chazak, means supernatural masculinity. It means the God-given ability to be able to man up. We need to understand the definition of manhood. We need to study the Word of God to find what the Bible tells us about how to be a man and shows you exactly what that looks like. You look at the verses that tell you how to be a man, but you also look at the verses that tell you how to be a dad and how to be a husband because they’re all synonymous—the same. If you find one single verse that tells you how to be a good dad, it’s also telling you how to be a good husband and also how to be a good man.

Being a dad, being a husband, and being a man comes from instruction from the Word of God, but you must search for that and read the Word of God. We need to understand that this book is not written about you. This book is written about Jesus.

There are 31,171 verses in the King James Bible and all of it gives us instruction. All of it teaches us something, but you have to go after it. You have to be able to understand it in context. That means how it’s written, who it is written to, when it was written, and any other details about the context. You have to be committed to knowing the Word of God. It’s a commitment. It’s one of the ways that you man up.

President James Garfield is famous for saying, “I mean to make myself a man, and if I succeed in that, I shall succeed in everything else.” That means that you want to be the man that God Almighty has called you to be, and if you are successful in that, then you will be successful in being a daddy, and you’ll be successful in being a husband. Being a male is a matter of birth but being a man is a matter of determination. You were born male; you were reborn to be a man.

Declaration:   The Word of God is exciting and helps me with all areas of my life. I want my life to be a “pleasant fragrance” rising up to God, so I seek His wisdom to help me live a godly life.

POWERFUL LOVE

What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but
don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone?
– James 2:14 NLT 

Mother Teresa was not just a person. She was a type and a symbol in our generation. Her selflessness affected our very culture, and she became a worldwide symbol of grace and virtue. She was known to have a great love for people.

Jesus said, “By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Therefore, Mother Teresa represents a disciple of Christ, and as a nun, she symbolizes the bride of Christ.

Sometimes, I get criticized because I don’t say things just to please other people. Neither did Mother Teresa. Once, when talking to the nuns at her convent, she said, “If you don’t have zeal to help the poor, to take care of the leper, you should pack up and go home, for you have no reason to stay.”

I saw this headline, “Mother Teresa, Friend to the Lowliest Dies” and thought that same headline would describe how Jesus lived while He walked the earth.  He waded into a sea of human beings, moved among them, met them where they were, loved them fiercely, and touched and healed them all.

Leanna and I travel to bring Jesus to hurting people all over the globe, and we see things that are hard to see and hard to deal with. I call it a terrible privilege. It is terrible to see the circumstances, but it is a privilege to be trusted by Jesus to go there and serve those living there. Mother Teresa served with that same privilege.

Mother Teresa was an example of what Jesus says in John 15, Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command.

She said, “I realized that I had a call to take care of the sick and the dying, the hungry, the naked, and the homeless to be God’s love in action to the poorest of people.”

She knew she was set aside to love and was clear about how to do that. What about you? Today is a good day to reflect on where God wants you to pour His love into the world around you.

Declaration:   Jesus loved me when I was unlovable and poured His love into me. He has given me the ministry of reconciliation so I can bring that love to the world. There is no greater honor than to love Him, love people, and serve Him as I serve people.

TRUTH REIGNS

TRUTH REIGNS

Stand up and fight for what is right and good in God’s eyes. Treat others with respect and they will respect you. Walk in the fruit of the Spirit, and you can do no wrong!

The Lord has a holy hatred for the portrayal of His glory as something shameful. That’s why the Bible tells us to be super careful not to call evil “good” and good “evil.”  “How long, O you sons of men, will you turn my glory to shame? How long will you love worthlessness and seek falsehood?”  – Psalms 4:2-3

Do not call worthless things glorious and shameful things wonderful. If you have no value for what’s real or true, you lose value for what’s good. Be on guard in these final days. Under the disguise of political correctness, good is being called evil more and more.

Today, the world calls women becoming men and men becoming women “good.” It believes that no matter what sex a person is, they should choose the bathroom they identify with and that killing an unborn baby is a “choice,” a right, and a freedom.

In the world of political correctness, all should be equal. The world will tell you that to disagree is evil, unloving, and ultimately, un-Christian. Why? They will tell you that Jesus wanted all to be equal; therefore, they are doing what Jesus would do. Baloney!

Here on earth, we are not equal. Some are beautiful and talented. Others are not. Some are born to wealthy families or in successful nations, and others are not. I have news for you if you are going to survive the onslaught of political correctness: Life Is Not Fair!

Read the Psalms. They are a testimony to how unfair this fallen world really is. Do not fall for the PC line that says what once was good is now evil because we have to make things fair or equal here on earth! The only place things are fair, equal and right is in Heaven when we become like Christ. Until then, keep testifying to a dying world that Jesus is the answer. Continue to present the truth no matter how many times you are called “evil” or “shameful.” Therefore, God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator… – Romans 1:24-25

Declaration:  Life is not fair, but I serve a just God who leads me to know good. My focus is on the Words and Ways of Jesus, who is good in all His ways. There is no confusion in my life about the things God loves and the things He hates. I am a child of God, walking in His Kingdom, and Truth reigns in my life.

EVER ON MY LIPS

I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips. I will glory in the Lord; let the afflicted hear and rejoice. – Psalm 34:1-2

The Lord wants a personal relationship with you. He wants to go deeper than you’ve ever gone before. He’s called you to this place. He’s waiting for you to press into Him.

Today, I want to do something different. I want to do something radical that we should do every day, but we just get caught up into other things.

Wherever you are, I encourage you to take a moment to worship King Jesus. Pray with me…

Jesus, I want to be alone with you. God, You are my life. There is no life apart from You. I am in desperate need of You right this moment. You are my God, and there is no other. I love how supernatural and unlimited You are. I love how You speak to me, command me, encourage me, protect me, lead me, feed me, provide for me, and love me. I am not a self-made person. All I have comes from You. All I am comes from You. All I put my hand to comes from You.

I don’t want to do anything apart from You. I don’t want to give my heart to anyone or anything else. I belong to You and You to me. I know it is You who has saved me. You taught me these things in the wilderness, where I learned to love and trust You. You were so good to me in my terrible wilderness, and I love You for that.

I will not forget you in my abundance. I will not say I’m too busy when You call me to my blessed place. I am Yours, and You are mine. You taught me that in the wilderness. Let it be true of my Promised Land. AMEN!

If we said those words every day—if we meant those words every moment—our lives would be transformed. Do you love Jesus as much in good times as in bad? Do you talk to Him and depend on Him as much in plenty as you do in want?

Declaration:  Oh, how I love Jesus. My soul overflows with my love for Him. The more I seek Him, the closer I get to Him. He is with me in every part of my life He gave me. I sing praises to Him from the deepest part of my being! Hallelujah!

MIRACLE TRANSFORMS MESSES

So now Jesus and the ones he makes holy have the same Father.
That is why Jesus is not ashamed to call them his brothers and sisters.
– Hebrews 2:11 NLT

Leanna and I have mortgaged our home seven times to keep food on the tables of strangers, a roof over orphans’ heads, and give freedom to those in bondage. It’s not a financial plan The Donald would approve of. Who knew there was no money in feeding and clothing the poor and orphaned? Obviously, Jesus did.

In 1995, I was on a first-name basis with our bill collectors and our electricity was cut off for lack of payment. We let all payments go, except the house. It had been a gift from the Lord. Making only $7,000 our first year in ministry, even those payments ended. We prayed for an angel of the Lord. Instead, the mortgage company showed up. “Unless you have a check for just over $1,700 in Memphis by 5 p.m. next Friday, you will have 30 days to vacate the premises,” the collector said, pain behind his eyes.

He didn’t like being the bad guy. I talked to him about Jesus and explained that we knew he was just doing his job. I had been a repo man in the past and knew the feeling well. For days, we prayed, trusted, and checked the mail for a miracle. Nothing. Wednesday finally came. It was the 11th hour, and a letter showed up. To my horror, it was from the IRS. Knowing it was an audit, I opened the envelope with a sigh.

BOOM! It was a check for overpaid taxes several years prior. Do you hear what I’m saying? The IRS voluntarily sent me money! If that doesn’t spell MIRACLE, call your doctor! In that same batch of mail was a check for just over $1,700 — the amount we owed. Jesus showed up in our mailbox. Sometimes, you need a miracle because of a mess you made. Other times, because of circumstances. If you need a miracle, keep believing! If you don’t, be a miracle to someone else.

We never missed another house payment. The Lord made sure. He rescued us from shame and set us in a place of honor for loving, serving, and trusting Him. Has He done that for you?

“Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved.” – Romans 10:13

Declaration:  The Lord has been faithful and good to me, so I know I can trust Him in all things in my life. I walk with integrity because I am focused on Him and follow His ways. In times when I make mistakes and messes result, I still call on the name of Jesus, because I know He will forgive me and bring me into goodness.

PURPOSE OUT OF THE PAIN

PURPOSE OUT OF THE PAIN

Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.

– Revelation 2:10 NKJV 

When pain and suffering inevitably come, look out the window. See the hard times others are facing without dwelling on your own. You are an overcomer in Jesus’ name!

God doesn’t ask a question because He doesn’t know the answer. He asks for your benefit. So you’ll be forced to know and own the answer to your messed up thinking, especially where pain and suffering are concerned.

Consider these questions…Who told you God doesn’t want you to have pain? Who told you life is supposed to be comfortable? Who told you times are never supposed to be hard? Who told you Christians never get sick, fired, wrongly accused, or addicted?

I see this thinking pattern a lot in Americans. Thinking that God only wants them to feel good is a bunch of Oscar Mayer! Someone who makes a big deal out of their pain is clueless to the pain of others. Someone who thinks they are never supposed to feel pain is led by what feels good—the beast within—and not by the Spirit of God.

Job, hit by the worst satan could muster, said it best when he said, If his sons are honored, he does not know it; if they are brought low, he does not see it. He feels but the pain of his own body and mourns only for himself. – Job 14:21-22

In other words, the Bible declares a good way to miss the important things in life is to focus on your pain. This is where depression begins. When you wrongly think you’re not supposed to have pain, you tend to have a meltdown when satan attacks or the path set before you begins to hurt. You miss the good and even the great when you focus on the painful.

Declaration:  Pain and tribulation that come my way in my life do not have the power to make me stop being faithful to Jesus. My heart cries out with compassion for those around me who suffer with such great heartbreak; I trust my Savior to show me how to reach out to others and help ease their pain. He shows me greater goodness in the world than I have ever seen.

FRUIT OF VICTORY

FRUIT OF VICTORY

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.

– Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

On Oct. 7, 1995, Waylon Jennings returned to Clear Lake, Iowa, the same way he left 36 years earlier—by bus. More than 2,000 fans packed the Surf Ballroom to see a world-famous performer retrace some painful steps taken years ago.

You see, Waylon was made famous by not being on the plane that crashed on Feb. 3, 1959, killing Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and the Big Bopper. One of the seats on that airplane was actually his.

The Big Bopper was scheduled to be on the bus. Having the flu, he asked Waylon to switch. Waylon agreed. Buddy Holly teased him, “I hope your old bus freezes up. It’s 40-below, and you’re going to get awful cold.”

Waylon said these last words to his close friend—words he would regret for decades: “Well, I hope your ol’ plane crashes.”

The next day, Waylon found out the same way the rest of the world did that three American music greats were dead. Three decades later, Waylon returned to the Surf Ballroom. Gone was the clean-cut boy. In his old age, with his long hair and unshaven face, the music was different, and so was he.

“This is kind of a special night for me,” he told the crowd. “I lost some great friends that night. You should have known Buddy, Ritchie, and the Big Bopper. They were great. That’s all I’m going to say about that.” He then broke into “Me and Bobby McGee.” That concert was about a man returning to face the most tragic event of his life. Waylon was an overcomer.

When he left the first time, he was a struggling bass player in Buddy’s band whose future was in serious doubt. He returned as a country music legend.

He went back, but not as the same person he used to be. I don’t know if Waylon knows Jesus, but I know this:  God will lead you back to those places where you were once defeated and have you stand there as the bad motor scooter He made you to be.

“For thy sake, we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.” – Romans 8:36-37

Declaration:  Jesus has brought victory into my life by His blood. He has healed the wounds of my past. He is at work in my life in new ways! My life has been redeemed and transformed by My Lord. I am not defeated; I am an overcomer!

SET APART FOR HIS ASSIGNMENT

For by grace, you have been saved through faith,
and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God. – Ephesians 2:8 NKJV 

One of my great heroes is George S. Patton. At the end of World War Two, everybody was so done with war. I mean, my gosh, we went through the Nazi empire, then we went through the horrible Japanese empire, and then, praise God, war is over. General Patton was looking over at the Russians, and he said we should attack them because they were going to be a problem. Everybody thought he was crazy. He said we need to go ahead and attack them right now and just get it over with. He was way ahead of everybody else, and he was exactly right. But we were done with war. We were tired of it.

He said, “Duty is the essence of manhood.” Duty is when you accept your assignment, no matter the cost.  Duty is when you complete your assignment, no matter the cost.

To understand that you have an assignment, this is on your watch, and then decide you are going to selflessly carry out your assignment—that is manhood.

When you hear people talk today about choosing their own sexuality or their own identity, they are saying, “Who is God that He can tell me who I am? I refuse my assignment. I will not do my duty. I have no sense of honor whatsoever.” We cannot be caught up in that spirit, friends. We must be caught up in the Holy Spirit.

Your willingness to accept your assignment as a daddy, your willingness to accept your assignment and conform your life to what it means to be a daddy or a husband or a man, is all about your determination to do something that falls into the category of the will to act. Think about that phrase because it means a lot. If I have the will to act, I will get up and do something that actually makes a difference. I’m going to actually accept my assignment. 

Declaration:   It is an honor to have God-given assignments for my life. I am grateful that Jesus took His assignment to come to Earth and become a sacrifice for my sin seriously and He followed through with it. I trust Holy Spirit to guide me so I will know how to fulfill every assignment God has entrusted me so that my life glorifies Him.
