VERY GOOD

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” – Revelation 2:7  NKJV

All of God’s creation was “good,” except man, who was “very good.” When you are redeemed by the blood of Jesus, God sees you just as pure and good as the first man, Adam, at his creation. This is a time for God’s goodness to fill you up in areas you’ve never expected.

From a created earth with endless possibilities, God created us and coded our DNA—just like the universe—to be people attracted to the next level and generally happy with anything related to improvement.

At each unfinished stage, God announces His goodness over you the way He did at the end of each day in the Genesis account.

When He sees you complete one small step toward something better, at the end of the day, He declares it monumental and says, “…it is good.” – Genesis 1:21

If you don’t give up but press on until you overcome, He will bring you unlimited access to the Tree of Life that is right in the middle of Paradise. Your universe is still expanding. So why would you dare to think it’s OK not to progress and go forward? It’s what you were made to do.

Declaration:  My goal is to overcome to the very end of my days here because I am looking forward to being in Paradise with My Lord one day. My ears are open to hear the voice of the Lord giving me encouragement and calling me forward to my highest calling. I am a grateful, blessed child of the Lord Most High.

VICTORY– OUR FINAL DESTINATION

But one testified in a certain place, saying: “What is man that You are mindful of him, Or the son of man that You take care of him? – Hebrews 2:6  NKJV

If you live with constant fear of something bad happening or feel like death is stalking you, know this: you are being chased. Just not by death.

The great Christian author and scholar C.S. Lewis called Jesus “The Hound of Heaven.” He was illustrating that Jesus is after each one of us. He is a God who pursues. He is chasing you down and hot on your trail. Death is not after you. Life is, and life has a name—Jesus!

He has followed you into every mess you’ve ever made. He has tracked and trailed you, hoping you would finally turn around and surrender to Him.

Stop running! Let Him bless you and give you peace, because for those who are saved by Him, doomsday is not inevitable! Our final destination is an eternity of victory with Heaven’s Champion – the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

The next time the devil threatens you with impending doom, remind him he is not the author or the finisher of your life. Jesus Christ is! Satan does not have the keys to death. Jesus does!

And when I saw Him (Jesus), I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, “Fear not; I am the first and the last; I am He that liveth, and was dead; and behold, I am alive forevermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and death.” – Revelation 1:17-18

Declaration:  I call on the Name of Jesus and declare His presence in my life for eternity. Every day, I face every situation knowing He has won my victory and that there is nothing in this life that will keep me from Him and the eternity He has planned for me.

THE WORD WAS MADE FLESH

“You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life; and these are they which testify of Me. But you are not willing to come to Me that you may have life.” – John 5:38-39

The goodness of God is not just seen in the past. It is calling from the future. People who fight for what “can be” understand that God says their destiny is much greater than their history.

Fear of the future and a fascination with the past are the enemies of upgrade. It was the same way in Jesus’ day. He turned to the religious folks of His generation and called it like Babe Ruth, pointing to the sky behind left field before hitting it out of the ballpark.

In other words, Jesus said they were willing to know the scriptures or things written long ago but were not willing to know Him right then in the present. They knew the Word but wouldn’t move forward to relationship with Him. Is that you?

If it is, you have settled on history and given up on experience. You have settled for revelation without accepting the invitation to personally encounter the One the Word is talking about. You won’t move forward.

The religious leaders of Jesus’ day did not recognize Him because He was not in the same place working the same method as they were. They wouldn’t move forward, and it cost them everything.

But that’s not you! Your destiny is greater than your history, and you’re not afraid to go for it!

Declaration:  God is bringing me to higher and higher levels. I am desperate to truly know Him—who He is, His heart, and how He operates in love. I recognize where He is at work and where He isn’t, and I stay close to Him.

SMALLER FOR GREAT OUTCOMES

SMALLER FOR GREAT OUTCOMES

I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God’s mysterious plan, which is Christ himself.  In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments. Colossians 2:2-4 NLT

What separates religious people from those who have a true and ongoing encounter with Jesus? The answer is simple: He increases in your life as you decrease.

That means you are getting small, and God is getting big—that you are giving Him preeminence in all things. That means God takes priority not just over your marriage, your finances, job, parenting, and every part of your life—it means He takes priority in your marriage, finances, job, parenting, and every part of your life.

Your walk with God is a lifetime of learning how to give Him priority both over and in every part of your life. John the Baptist put it this way: “He must increase, but I must decrease.” – John 3:30

The understanding of “Christ in me” is a promise that I am going to get smaller and smaller, while He gets bigger and bigger. At some point, He will be so enlarged in my life that people are going to see Him, not Troy, and that’s the point!

The promise is that someday, I’m going to supernova, and Jesus is going to come busting up out of me in a way that doesn’t leave any trace of me. Until that glorious day, I’m going to be part of His camp, so it’s up to me to get this thing right. It is my job to get small.

How about you? Are you still looking for the spotlight and the praise of men? Do you find ways to look important or drop names of folks you think are impressive? If you’re a legend in your own mind, stop it!

Start bragging on God and what He’s done. The credit is His alone! Only then can God bring you to your destiny so you can truly be used for His purpose and glory.

Declaration:  My soul magnifies the Lord, my heart desires to bring Him glory by the way I walk in the world. Each day, I want Him to increase in my life. God is the fullness in my life as I make room for Him and I am filled with joy.

THE LORD IS IN THE HOUSE

I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live,
but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh
I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
– Galatians 2:20 NKJV 

The Bible tells it straight up:  faith without action is dead. We have Jesus Christ inside, so what we do should look like something He would do. For goodness to be a catalyst for kingdom transformation in your life, there needs to be action. You need to take that action. You and I, as Christians, need to do things that matter. When you do something good, do it with excellence and make it sustainable so that goodness continues on.

Years ago, when Leanna and I started bringing groceries to a group of about 70 senior citizens, I could have gotten tired or distracted. I could have said, “Let somebody else do it. I’ve done my part.” I didn’t. That food ministry became sustainable because I didn’t fall out or lose focus. Today, OpenDoor Food Bank not only feeds thousands of people each year, I believe we do it with excellence, the same way Jesus would—no questions asked.

We don’t shame people or judge them. We don’t make them prove their financial need or question their nice car. We don’t know how long they’re going to have that car. We welcome, bless, and pray for every person who comes to us for help, plus we load their car with some of the best food around.

It’s time you made a difference and made it much, much bigger than you. In the short time we have on this earth, you and I should make changes that far outlast all of us. Changes that glorify the King of Kings.

Let’s you and I remain faithful and committed to working toward real, tangible transformation through the goodness of God. Let’s advertise His goodness in ways nobody has dreamed of. Let’s take action!

And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. – Galatians 6:9-10

Declaration:  Because He saved me, I have a life worth living. My life is committed to doing good and sharing the love of the Lord. My Kingdom commitment drives my decisions and my actions. I want my faithfulness to show the Lord Jesus how much I love Him!

LOVING THE CHANGE

When the Day of Pentecost had fully come,
they were all  with one accord in one place.  – Acts 2:1 NKJV 

When we say that the goodness of God leads to repentance, it means you can change over and over. I continue to change in my 35 years of marriage. Leanna changed right off the bat and moved out of the big city to the shack. She left her friends and her family because she loved me. That’s what repentance means. She left the thing that was always familiar to her, the thing that was always comfortable to her, the thing that always made sense. She stepped out of that for the promise of a life that the two of us could have, and she laid down her life.

I have never met another woman on the face of the planet who would be willing to go through what Leanna has been through to stay with me for all the years and all the missions and all the poverty and all the hardship that we had been through fighting for the ministry. Nobody else would have done it.

The way she laid down her life and conformed her life so that we could live together is exactly what Jesus is offering us when He says, “I want you to repent.”

It is conforming to the compatibility of the manifest presence of Jesus. God will show up and say, “Hey, I’m about to move you into something big, very good, and brand new. To conform to this, I’m going to be King in your life in a new way. You will have to walk away from some things and make room for Me.”

Repentance is conforming to the compatibility of His presence. Marriage is about conforming to the compatibility of each other. You conform your life to the promise that God Almighty has given you.

Declaration: There is nothing in this world I want or need more than I want and need to be in one accord with God. I know that when I conform to His ways, then I will be compatible with other believers and with the other people in my life. I love His goodness and the way He loves me. Even if I could survive without His presence, it would not be “life” to me.

MOUTH GUARD

Set a guard, O Lord, over my mouth; keep watch over the door of my lips.
Do not incline my heart to any evil thing. – Psalms 141:3

One of the most important strategies God gives us for overcoming anything—even our own minds—is the discipline of speaking right words. If you’re honest, you will admit you don’t know how to speak right words automatically. The impulse to speak is always carnal in nature and filthy in substance. Just like any other part of our walk, we have to be taught.

If you don’t know what to say, you’re in good company. When the Great I Am first introduced Himself to Moses and imparted his personal destiny to him, Moses made the objection he didn’t know what to say or even how to say it.  

Then Moses said to the Lord, “O my Lord, I am not eloquent, neither before nor since You have spoken to Your servant; but I am slow of speech and slow of tongue.” So the Lord said to him,“Who has made man’s mouth? Or who makes the mute, the deaf, the seeing, or the blind? Have not I, the Lord? Now therefore, go, and I will be with your mouth and teach you what you shall say.” – Exodus 4:10-12

When you’re real with God about your mouth, He will be real with you. He was with Moses. In fact, if you give Him an “ear to hear” on this subject, He will “teach you what you shall say.” If you want to see your children, friends, and family come to know Him better, proclaim His truth over them. Speak out His promises and watch them come to be.

You see, God admits to creating the mute, the deaf, the seeing, and the blind. Why? For His glory! If they were created to bring God glory, so was your mouth.

It’s time to win the battle for your tongue. It starts with your mind, then makes the three-inch drop to your mouth. Remember, before a good thing can be set into order, declarations have to be spoken, so speak life over yourself! Speak victory over your mind. Speak faith and trust over your heart.

Then, when the enemy attacks—and he will all day, every day—you’ll be prepared to win the fight for your mind and your mouth. The very words you speak will either attract goodness or bring wrath. Choose goodness!

Declaration:  The battlefield is in my mind, but victory comes through my mouth! I choose to speak truth and declare the goodness of God is moving in all my life.

CHANGE YOUR DIET

When I was a kid, we used to sing a little song. You might remember it. It goes, “Nobody likes me. Everybody hates me. Goin’ to the garden, eat worms, eat worms!”

While it seems like a silly kids’ song, many of us adults subscribe to the spirit behind it. The thought pattern that “nobody loves me” or “nobody cares” is a dangerous way of thinking. Why? Because it’s a lie from the pit of hell. It’s satan’s favorite way of paralyzing us and keeping us from our destiny.

You are loved like crazy by the extravagant God of the universe. He planned you and knew you before He knit you together in your mother’s womb. The Bible says He counts the number of hairs on your head and keeps track of your tears—tears that break His heart to watch you cry.

When you’re tempted to focus on the two nimrods that don’t like you, stop. Instead, focus on all the people who love you. If you’re convinced nobody on this earth loves you, know for certain your Father in Heaven thinks you’re awesome.

Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings.
– Psalms 17:8

Being the apple of His eye means you are His focus! You never have to ask for His attention because you have it—all of it! You also have all of His love because it is limitless! You never have to share God with anyone else because He’s all yours all the time!

Moses knew this well. Moses didn’t have many friends. Because he was the leader, he took a lot of blame and criticism from the people. The Word says his own wife didn’t even like him! But the Bible clearly records God’s thoughts on Moses. God called him “a friend.”  The Lord would speak to Moses face to face as one speaks to a friend. – Exodus 33:11

Know this: you can’t make people love you. As wonderful and perfect as God Himself is, He can’t make anyone love Him either. So focus on those who do love you, especially Jesus!

Declaration:  I am the apple of my Father’s eye. He is continually focused on me and I am intentional to keep my focus on Him. He shows me wonderful things and brings me into great adventures.  I live an abundant life because of the love of My Savior, Jesus.

HIGHEST PEAK

HIGHEST PEAK

From the end of the earth I will cry to You, when my heart is overwhelmed;
Lead me to the rock that is higher than I. – Psalm 61:2 NKJV

Despite being a flatlander, I love mountains and am amazed at how big some of them are. Pikes Peak in Colorado is 14,110 feet above sea level, while Mt. Rainier in Washington State is 14,410—the tallest peak in the lower 48. Of course, the tallest mountain on earth is Mt. Everest, at 29,028 feet above sea level on the border of Nepal and Tibet.

God loves mountains too, maybe because He is called “The Most High.” There are some high places in the Lord few people are up to the challenge of climbing. These places are reserved for a very elite few. People willing to get off the couch to be the people God called them to be.

All of us, as people of God, need to find these places in Christ. You have a God-given, very spiritual ability to get up there, too. You just have to want it!

Here’s the bottom line: there is no neutral in your spiritual gearbox. You are either climbing higher and reaching toward the things of God or you are sinking into the muck and mire of your flesh and the world, which is waiting to devour you.

There is only forward or backward. There is no safe place. No rest period. No taking a break. You never “arrive” at your destination in Him while you’re here on earth. Again, if you are not going forward, you are in a backward slide.

Go after “the Rock that is higher than I” and find your true identity and calling for the Kingdom. The days are short. God has saved the best of every bloodline for “such a time as this.” That means you!

He maketh my feet like hind’s (deer’s) feet: and setteth me upon my high places. – 2 Samuel 22:34

Declaration:   I seek direction from the Divine.  It is always better than what man would define as divine. I listen intently to hear God speak and to listen to what He is actually saying.

TIME OF DOMINION

TIME OF DOMINION

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”
– Genesis 1:28 NKJV

I’m an atmosphere fanatic. I haven’t always been like that. When I was a kid, everything I did looked like someone was moving hell, and I was the very first load! I was a mess. My room looked like a 747 had failed a crash landing, and my school locker was filled with unspeakable things that grew and multiplied in the dark. There was very little order in my messed up world, and my world was messed up because of it. Maybe you can relate to this.

Something happened when I got saved. I began to appreciate the value of stewarding environments and creating atmospheres. I have learned to be very intentional about the surroundings I keep myself in. I learned this from Jesus.

God created a beautiful garden for Adam and Eve to live in. He produced a fiery, thunderous environment on the mountain to bring Moses the law. He fashioned stillness to bring His intimate voice to comfort Elijah because the context of setting is very important to producing a specific outcome.

God knows this, but so does the devil—aka the prince of the power of the air.

Wherein in time past, you walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience – Ephesians 2:2

The Word says satan is the spirit working in ungodly people, and one of the ways he controls them is by controlling the atmosphere. Most don’t realize they’ve given over a big part of their lives to the enemy. They willingly live in an atmosphere designed by evil.

How many churches teach the Bible in an atmosphere of judgment, superiority or self-righteousness? How many daddies take their kids to church, but when they come home from work, they cower in an atmosphere of anger? How many wives have destroyed their marriages because they built an atmosphere of hostility and control over their husbands?

That’s not you. If it is, stop it. Repent and take inventory of the atmosphere you’re not only living but creating. It should look more like Heaven than hell.

Declaration:  I open my life and invite God into everything. He is changing the atmosphere in my earthly domain. I will no longer let hell have a place in my world. Heaven on Earth will be made manifest in my home, my family, my work, and my friends. I live in the presence of the Lord, and His glory surrounds me.
